  1. I'd be happy as long as he does not have final say on drafting/trading. Good coach but has a post 2000 era Sheedy penchant for picking up recycled duds to wit the Saints ending up with a list largely comprising of limited role players kept for too long or recruited from other clubs.
  2. a name to be written in infamy in the history of the Melbourne Football Club. Never forgotten. Never forgiven.
  3. Tom who? His departure says more about Tom Scully than it does about the MFC. In the history of the oldest elite football club in the world his name will be writ large in infamy. For mine his heart never beat true for the red and the blue. I would not be surprised if a lucrative move to an expansion team was part of his career planning when he, his family and his managers realised that he would not be drafted by a 'big' Victorian team. In that we have been played for suckers which is never a pleasant experience. As far as GWS goes I would also not be surprised it that career plan includes a move back to one of 'big' Victorian teams at the expiration of his GWS contract. So we move on with the compensation picks and a new coach and with players like the highly talented Jack Trengove who signed a 3 year deal on arrival and then extended in his second year for another 4 in the week after one of the most embarrassing performances ever by a Melbourne team. His heart obviously beats true for the red and the blue. This club has made significant advances in recent times in rebuilding the list, establishing elite facilities, eliminating debt and building membership. We are finally in a good position to thrive rather than survive. Its up to us to assist the club in building on those strong foundations. We must let one young man's decison making divert us from that. As members we are all ambassadors for the club. Each one of us needs to make a commitment to get as many Dees fans who were not members in 2011 to sign up in 2012. GO DEES!
  4. Given the Best and Fairest is on 23 September his decision will be well and truly known by then. If he goes to GWS then he sure as hell should not be welcome at the best and fairest. End of story.
  5. If Nm 31 does indeed accept an offer from GWS then it will perhaps say more about him than about the Melbourne Football Club. The alleged 'inspection of facilities ' trip to GWS does have all the hallmarks of the infamous Chris Judd 'Meet The Clubs charade. If he does leave after just 2 years it will be the most dastardly act ever committed by a player of the Melbourne Football Club over our 153 year history. In terms of the compensation my view last year was that clubs that lost players to the new teams should have been very generously compensated because they were the clubs losing talented players for the overall good of the code in a manner they would not normally face. Of course Geelong received only moderate compensation for losing a play of Ablett's talents so we have to hope that the relevant factors such as pick taken in draft, age and contract offer do at least deliver similar compensation to what Geelong received.
  6. 'Max covers news from AAMI Stadium for afl.com.au. Follow him on Twitter: @AFL_MaxPhillips'
  7. Another pre season for our young players to build size and endurance + a new coach with a contemporary defensive based game plan who can teach out players the structures and setups of the modern game...
  8. If the Dees are playing in Melbourne where else would I be but at the ground watching them. Silly question really!
  9. Sylvia's review post Hawks or Geelong game led the way.
  10. The reality is that with free agency coming in high altitude training will be one of the factors players think about when they are deciding to stay with us or to come to us. We need to do it but can we afford to? If not then we need to able to afford it as soon as possible.
  11. Sylvia needs work on the defensive side of his game like sticking on Sam Mitchell 20 metres off the ball in instead of being attracted to the mass of players waiting for a ball in on the defensive side of the wing. Oh and going out last Saturday night after the worst performance in the history of the club, that was just dumb. I know I was not in the mood to head out last Saturday and I suspect most Dees fans were the same.
  12. I have a feeling he has withdrawn sponsorship before in a funk in the 80s or 90s Certainly the reasons advanced sound more convenient rather than serious grounds to terminate a sponsorship. There is no doubt that the White with Black Font Hankook Logo stands out on our jumper more than most in the League. But I guess it is all Cameron Schwab's fault!
  13. Seriously if the players are still sulking because we did not offer a 34 year old a new contract and we offered a 31 year old a one year contract then that makes me more angry than the performance against Geelong.
  14. The same Sylvia who ran through the centre square to a throw in on the defensive side of the wing with Sam Mitchell but kept going to the contest even though Mitchell had stopped and placed himself 20 metres off the throw in on the wing? And yep the Hawks got the ball to the unguarded Mitchell from the throw in.
  15. The OP is correct. Free agency coming in only makes the situation more urgent.
  16. No AFL coach will ever coach out a season after their team loses by 186 points. Not this season. Not next season. Never ever. The Board had only one decision to make and they have made it.
  17. Everybody tanks. Ooze ranks with Bruce for serial under performance on a lucrative contract.
  18. A coaching panel with an emphasis on assistants from Collingwood, St Kilda, Sydney and Geelong who can instill in our team a more defensive style of play in line with the premiership and better teams of the recent era.
  19. Bailey has to go. After 4 years I can see no sign of what it is that he has taught our players. Certainly it is not the art of defensive football which in the modern era is very much the building blocks of premiership success. Schwab and Connoly I find a little hard to accept. If it is that the players are still upset over Junior and Bruce's exits I'd be distinctly unimpressed. Junior is one my favourite players but for mine he showed in 2010 that at 34 physically there was not much left in the tank. Bruce at 31 was offered a 1 year deal. Whatever happens the decisions need to be made tonight otherwise it descends into even more of a farce than was presented by our coach and his assistants and the players at Geelong.
  20. He has to learn to chase and tackle. In 2011 at AFL level it is non negotiable. Too often he jogs along rather than sprinting to cover or at least be closer to the oppoosing player so that when a tackle/turnover opportunity occurs he is close enough to impact on the player. Football these days more than ever is as much about what a player does when they don't have the ball as it is about what they do when they have it.
  21. The essence of the story is: : We have been without a Footy director since Leoncelli stepped down from the Board at last year's AGM : Stynes is fill that role on the board : The Board is to establish a sub-committee to look at the coaching position as the Senior Coach is out of contract at the end of the year Sounds like business as usual to me.
  22. Lethal was Coach of the Lions when they recruited noted Dees Hard Man Travis Johnstone!
  23. Draft for Tomorrow. Trade for Today. I don't have a problem with our recruiting. I've liked everything I've seen of Cook for Casey. Presents well. Takes contested marks. Good decision making. Good disposal. Can play forward or back. Just needs 3- 5 pre seasons to put on some weight. As for our coaching its a long long way back for the coaching panel after the Hawthorn and West Coast games.
  24. total coaching box clean out required
  25. repeat ad nauseum another ping from 50 low percentage option can we spot a player up geez
