  1. How do fans of clubs not used to success react when their teams start winning? I don't sit on no fence
  2. Assuming, all players selected take part in their respective games then our injury list is down to five players which is probably the best it's been in four years: Daniel Bell (shoulder) test Max Gawn (knee) indefinite Liam Jurrah (shoulder) 10 weeks John Meesen (ankle) indefinite Cale Morton (knee) 2 weeks Jared Rivers (knee) test Luke Tapscott (hip) indefinite Austin Wonaeamirri (hamstring) test
  3. The 12 player rule only applies where an AFL affiliated side plays against a stand alone club like Frankston or Port Melbourne. It would not apply to a game v North Ballarat which has a partial alignment with North Melbourne.
  4. I recall that, at one point in time when Melbourne was looking for a CEO to replace Paul McNamee and Cameron Schwab had not committed to the job, Brian Waldron's name was mentioned in dispatches as being a possible candidate for the Demons' job. Turns out that he stayed put at the Storm and Jimmy persisted and snared Cam. Could it be that we dodged a bullet and the Storm now faces its death knell as a result of this scenario?
  5. When there's an event on involving the Demons, CC is never far away. He was at his brilliant best last week interviewing Aaron Davey and Liam Jurrah at the Women of Melbourne Long Journey function - http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20237
  6. By sheet co-incidence, I'll be up on the Gold Coast for a week at that time and I would much rather go to a live game than watch the Demons' game on TV (even assuming they show it live up there). I never feel comfortable watching my team live on TV so thank heavens for the VCR. Hopefully, it's feasible to have some sort of function/get together involving the Queensland Demons and/or the James Frawley sponsors group at the game. I'd be happy to get involved and be part of a strong presence of Casey/Demon fans at the ground. All this is assuming the game's at Labrador, Queensland and not Labrador, Canada .
  7. I asked about Pierce Liddle at last year's Women of Melbourne Long Journey function and was informed that the Aaron Davey scholarship had not yet been instituted so Liddle definitely wasn't a scholarship recipient. Nothing about the scholarship was mentioned at this week's Long Journey function and it appears to have gone off the radar.
  8. Hi Deb,

I'm going to be on the Coast from 30 April to 7 May. I'll also be going to the Casey game.

Happy to be involved in the pre and/or post match if there's something on.

Is it ok if I pay my share of the sponsorship and my Qld Demons membership then?

    Cheers,

    WJ

  9. The time factor's important to give our young players the opportunity to develop physically and mentally into a team that can win games on a regular basis. Already this year we've seen improvement in our defence and midfield. Mark Jamar is carrying the ruck division and ultimately we need to see Jake Spencer and/or Max Gawn develop. Our key forward hopes are pinned on Jack Watts but I'd like to see us recruit another tall forward as a back up. We have most of the ingredients already there. We need some of those young players to not only mature but to move up to elite status. In two year's time I want to pick up Mike Sheahan's top 50 list of players and see a couple in the top 10 and 5 or 6 in the 50 rather than none or just one in the high 40s as has happened in recent years.
  10. I must admit that when Sheedy's name first came up as a candidate for the Demons' coaching job I was interested because I believed our list was better than it turned out to be and I thought we needed a showman/spruiker out there to whip up interest in the club to get it back on track. Of course, I couldn't have been more mistaken and Sheedy's misguided ramblings in this article are all the proof that's needed to demonstrate that his appointment as coach of this club would have been an unmitigated disaster.
  11. I love Martin Flanagan's work and I love what the club is doing in the field of the health of our indigenous people but if Yuendumu is really "500 kilometres north-west of Darwin" it's probably part of Indonesia. Actually, it's about that far to the south west of Darwin and around 290k north west of Alice Springs. Flanagan's lucky to have been there twice and we're so lucky that he has retained an interest in our club. And how lucky are we that the publicity surrounding our club surrounds the work of Hugh Taylor rather than drunken brawls in hotels and coaches who aren't liars but they don't mind telling porkies?
  12. Nic Nat is 11 months older than Jack Watts. Eleven months ago, Nic Nat was still to make his debut. They play in different positions. It's going to be a while before we're really going to be in a position to compare their careers.
  13. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not innocent when it comes to committing bloopers myself but this week's edition of Inside Football has gone too far with its its cover page referring to an article by Nathan Burke where he "nominates footy's biggest blooper". It's a nice article about what makes a footballer flat but then Inside Football went and committed a big blooper itself in its preview of the Richmond v Melbourne match with a photograph of Brad Miller overlaid with the words "GAME BREAKER MILLER". No disrespect to Brad Miller but he is playing at Casey Fields ATM and, unless I'm badly mistaken, isn't likely to be selected for Melbourne this week. Is Inside Football kidding us?
  14. On a brighter note, Liam Jurrah said at the Women of Melbourne Long Journey function last night that he expects to be back in 8 - 9 weeks so he's a couple of weeks ahead of schedule (compared to last week's injury list). On that basis, if all goes well he could be playing at Casey in mid season, possibly around QB weekend.
  15. Please include me in too!
  16. Daniel Connors was selected by Richmond with pick 58 in the 2006 National Draft when some were suggesting that he was a good enough footballer to make top 20. There was mention made at the time that he possibly had some "problems" that contributed to his later than expected selection. I suppose the Tigers thought he might change his stripes. This shows that it's important for clubs to research their targets in drafts and even to err on the side of caution when dealing with potentially "problem" players.
  17. They don't call him the Oracle for nothing. However, we have asked him to stop writing his review of the Richmond game and concentrate on today's match v Adelaide first. As a consequence, we've changed the title to this thread to appropriately reflect the match under review.
  18. Scores from turnovers Round 2: Collingwood v Melbourne Collingwood 8.7.55 Melbourne 3.7.25 Round 3: St. Kilda v Collingwood St. Kilda 7.7.49 Collingwood 0.16.16 Pressure? Source: Herald Sun
  19. Jack Watts starts on a hff for Casey Scorpions on Saturday night v Geelong. Team selection here ---> http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20095 ... and Sam Blease in the reserves at Port Melbourne on Sunday.

  21. I don't usually go on about law and order as a political issue but this is really one that needs some thought followed up by action from government, the courts and the police to stamp out violent louts. Where there's drink involved there should also be more responsibility taken by the pubs that serve the alcohol that often fuels the violence. The particular hotel where this incident occurred was also associated with the activities of certain Collingwood footballers not that long ago. I'm certainly no wowser but there are certain parts of this city that I wouldn't go near on any evening. To Kyle who is about as courageous as they come on the footy field and to David Bell who was also injured in the incident, speedy recovery and see you soon at Casey.
  22. There's a thread elsewhere on Casey's practice match v Amateur side De La Salle last Thursday night. It was rather low key but half a dozen MFC players took part.
  23. From Jimmy's Twitter: We're with you all the way Jimmy!
  24. Excellent choice. Yes, we could easily have avoided that pathetic effort against Hawthorn simply by drafting Ball, keeping McLean, Robbo (who kicked 7 up at Shepparton at the weekend), Wheels and Paul Wheatley (who recently kicked 7 in the NTFL) but it would have cost us dearly in the medium to long term. Such a move would have kept us from drafting young talent in the "last chance" draft, prevented us from front ending contracts of our younger players, placed us at greater risk from raids from the new clubs and, in any event, our list would have been so much weaker in 3 year's time. Collingwood can have Ball.
