  1. It has been suggested that he will be along with one other player from the Brisbane academy.
  2. There's already been an amazing story about a player like him - Shane Mumford - who lost similar amounts of weight before he started his AFL career. Mumford is 199cm tall, now weighs 108kg and can match it with most rucks in the comp.
  3. Yes, Wilkinson looked good when I saw him and there's no doubt that Paul Roos would have noticed him as well. In fact, of all those not picked up in the draft, I'm most surprised about him not going. He's a real athlete and he gets the footy as well. There is a but ... and that's whether we haven't got enough similar young players already and whether we have greater needs elsewhere.
  4. The order is now known and GWS has first pick but it is not yet known whether it will exercise a choice. Carlton has second pick and will select Jason Tutt and they are followed by a handful of others who are also regarded as likely passes.
  5. Soon, I suppose.

  8. No, it's not doing any harm Georgiou but it's pretty much redundant if not being used by the clubs.Today marked the end of delisted player free agency period (3) and nothing happened during this brief window of opportunity either. So if nobody is interested, best to do away with it completely.
  9. You assume correctly but in the meantime, there's a lot in between your first line and your second. I understand that both Charter and Alavi have been interviewed and given statements. The Tribunal would still be required to consider those statements and could draw inferences as to why those witnesses are now refusing to appear before it. Remember, the standard of proof required to sustain a verdict is not the criminal standard and the evidentiary requirements are not the same as they are in our court system.
  10. Parallax view. He's really thin as a rake.
  11. Paige Cardona just keeps on keeping on - Rookie draft top 30 prospects Problem is there's not much there and I suspect that quite a few clubs will end up taking recycled players.
  12. What did Brad Green say to Mike Sheehan about tanking? I must have missed that part of the programme. If I remember rightly, McLean was said to have left the club when he was offered a lower contract figure by the club than he was being paid on his old contract and Carlton offered him more. When he appeared on OTC he inferred he left because of the tanking he alleged was going on at Melbourne but we all know Carlton were the masters of the art of tanking so if that's so, why do you think he chose them? BTW, I do agree he was a pawn in the whole saga, but if so, who made used him as a pawn and for what purpose?
  13. He couldn't hack the drive to Casey five years ago - the trip won't be any easier next year.
  14. Alas, poor Joe never got the opportunity to wear the jumper and was never given a number. This is because, like your avatar, Joe is merely symbolic of a particular condition, which in MFC's case was the poor fortune that attended the club for half a century since the club let Barassi go after winning the 1964 premiership (in my view the worst decision made by the club in its entire history). But even though we've had our fair share, it hasn't been simply bad luck but rather, devices of our own doing, and particularly the divisions within the club that have kept us down for so long. While our current situation is not ideal, the political situation has stabilised, we're moving forward and making great strides on and off the field, so what I see before us is a much more ideal climate to move forward and do so quickly than at any other time in our recent history. Anyway, getting rid of Joe was never going to be enough; you have to do a lot more to get things right. Think you might have confused him with a different Joe, PF.
  15. Condolences - sad that Ray missed out on our long hoped for revival. RIP
  16. I obviously looked out of the wrong window this morning - showers came about an hour later.
  17. Wednesday it is then. Thanks folks. (BTW: another good reason for not doing Tuesday is that I think Wongs might be closed on Tuesdays )
  18. Summer's arrived and so have another four new recruits. Looking out my window, the weather's not looking too bad although there's a bit of a wind about. Should be a good crowd on hand to welcome the new boys. Reports most welcome
  19. We don't have a pick left for the PSD and therefore won't take part in it. A handful of players will be selected but the actual order of selection won't be known until later tomorrow when the latest DFA period expires. It should be over in almost no time.
  20. Actually, two premierships ~ 2013 & 2014.
  21. Just as an aside, did anyone see Gerrard Whateley's hair on the Offsiders this morning? What has he done?
  22. As you say, one draft won't lift the "curse" but I think we've gone beyond that - by the middle of next week, the club under Paul Roos will have turned over close to half its playing list in the space of little more than twelve months. I consider this not only a revolutionary change but cleansing, cathartic, entirely necessary and highly positive for the future and therefore not based on hope alone.
  23. Infraction notices issued against 34 players who were on the Essendon list in 2012. Matter goes before an AFL Tribunal on 15 December. The focus is currently on the evidence that can be admitted to the hearing and which witnesses will be available ~ Essendon supplements saga hearing to discuss evidence dispute.Oh ... and James Hird remains coach of Essendon and a number of their players are suffering withdrawal symptoms as a result of being derived of the baby formula (aka "the good thymosin") they once used to be injected with on a regular basis.
  24. Eastern Ranges captain and best and fairest Luke Hannon joins Casey ScorpionsThe similarities between Hannon and Petracca continue. "Hannon, a former state under-age basketballer, has agreed to a two-year deal." Hannon is about the same height as the Demon draftee at 187cm but is almost 20kg lighter at 76kg.
  25. Ed Morris was one of the few bright lights among the Casey players this year. He even outshone a number of the MFC listed players who were regulars there and was a matchwinner in one of the Scorpions' few wins. However, he's 177cm and if he was rookied by us he would be waiting in line behind many other mids and unlikely to get a game any time soon. Tyler Roos is taller but is slightly built and needs plenty of time to mature. I believe he's been offered an overage position on the Dragons' 2015 TAC Cup list and that might be a better option for him in the long run than being rookied and mainly forgotten at an AFL club. At Melbourne we already have Jayden Hunt, James Harmes and Max King as "development players" and a couple of the newly drafted players from Thursday night's draft will be joining them. I therefore tend towards going for needs and like the idea of drafting mature aged players to fill specific roles if needed in much the same way as Alexis Georgiou came in from Round 1 last year when Col Garland was injured. Because Jack Trengove is almost certain to remain on the long term injury list for most, if not all, of 2015 it seem to make sense that we have a couple of mature players available in case specific roles need to be addressed and the ruck and a key position forward are two areas not yet addressed in our recruitIng this year. My picks would be - • Sam Bauldertone - ruckman from Norwood SA, about who I wrote a little while ago here, and • Brett Eddy - a 191cm full forward who was the leading goalkicker in the SANFL. Matt Hammellman sounds promising if not taken by the Brisbane Lions who have priority over him as a member of their academy.
