  1. Strange that Essendon is able to produce what appears to be a photograph of a photograph of something labeled Thymomodulin but it has absolutely no record of what was actually ingested by the players over a long period of time during which these substances were injected into the players. And the people who report on this garbage get journalism awards? Really?
  2. It's Worksafe, not Workcover and its task is not to prove that the players DID take banned substances, only as to whether the club breached its duty of care to its players. Here are the relevant provisions: "Primary duty of care 19 Primary duty of care (1) A person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of— (a) workers engaged, or caused to be engaged, by the person; and (b) workers whose activities in carrying out work are influenced or directed by the person, while the workers are at work in the business or undertaking. (2) A person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the health and safety of other persons is not put at risk from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business or undertaking. (3) Without limiting subsections (1) and (2), a person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable— (a) the provision and maintenance of a work environment without risks to health and safety; and (b) the provision and maintenance of safe plant and structures; and © the provision and maintenance of safe systems of work; and (d) the safe use, handling, storage and transport of plant, structures and substances; and (e) the provision of adequate facilities for the welfare at work of workers in carrying out work for the business or undertaking, including ensuring access to those facilities; and (f) the provision of any information, training, instruction or supervision that is necessary to protect all persons from risks to their health and safety arising from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business or undertaking; and (g) that the health of workers and the conditions at the workplace are monitored for the purpose of preventing illness or injury of workers arising from the conduct of the business or undertaking." Worksafe is sitting in the background waiting on the outcome of the ASADA investigation. The likely outcome if Essendon is found to have breached its DOC to the players is a hefty fine (no gaol term). I don't know what the NSW equivalent has done in the case of NRL but my understanding is that the Cronulla programme was short lived and stopped as soon as the club doctor found out. The NRL, Cronulla and the players cooperated fully with the Investigation and negotiated a settlement without the need for a hearing and as a consequence, WADA decided not to appeal to CAS although it was not completely happy with the outcome. Agreed, that in Essendon's case the penalties to the players, if found to have breached the code, are unlikely to be the maximum two years but they could result in some severe sanctions against people like Dank and any coaches and officials involved.
  3. Great photography. Felt as if I was there.
  4. Tweet from Paul Amy who covers VFL for local newspapers:- "Good signing for Casey Scorpions tonight in Korumburra-Bena defender Paul Pattison.Ex-Gippy Power and in the 2014 Alberton team of the year." I know very little about this player but it's good to see the Scorpions are doing some recruiting.

  6. I like what I'm reading about Lynden Dunn who has taken a long time to mature and establish himself as a regular senior player of value to the team. For so long it appeared that, like so many others who have come and gone at the club, he would never live up to his first round draft selection. He was Dunny, the larrikin with the dumb moustache who had needless scraps with teammates and injured them at training, who suffered brain fades during matches that were costly to the team. Suddenly, nearing the twilight of his career it's as if the penny dropped and he's become one of the club's solid citizens setting an example for his younger teammates not only during the season but in that important time of the preseason when much of the hard work has to be done to ensure a successful year ahead. Who would have thunk it?
  7. http://www.demonland.com/images/trengove.jpg Er ... I did get the pictures. One was with Chip Frawley which I included in an article (Godbye Chip Frawley or somewhere else) and the other is this. The common thread is Satyr with blokes possibly on their way out. Not a good look.
  8. Exactly what I was thinking this year but Hawthorn beat us to the punch when they iced him with pick #38 in the draft only 2 picks ahead of our choice at #40. Kid's definitely got speed.
  9. AFL Draft Pick Me: Christian Petracca has AFL-ready body and is set to be the No.1 draft pick
  10. Fair bit of polish about ‘Roughy’ comparison
  11. Now about those consent forms signed by the players ... Associate Professor Brian Stoffell is Head of the Social Health Sciences Unit at Flinders University. An expert in medical ethics and health law, he is Director of SA Healths Health Care Ethics Unit at FMC. Not on my watch: responsibility in the Essendon saga
  12. Seven years later and I'll take most of it back.
  13. Seven days before draft day the media realises that SA appears underrepresented at the top end of the draft. SA's first round drought I asked the question at last week's MFC draft info night and Jason Taylor agreed that while SA was extremely well coached, it was a team that was was very even in ability and didn't have as many outstanding players as the two Victorian teams in the national carnival. On top of that, they tended to select some players who would do well at this level but might not have the attributes necessary to go further. I got the impression that this was a reference to the likes of pocket sized Caleb Daniel who starred in the champs but most pundits are suggesting might only get picked in the rookie draft. Taylor did suggest that there were a few players from SA who might come into contention when our selection at #40 comes around.
  14. I wouldn't be unhappy with a player who in his first year has equal Impact to a seven year player who finished top ten in the club b & f. It would give him the rest of his football lifetime to exceed that and make him possibly a 200+ game player of quality over his entire career.
  15. I just hope people don't go cold on Frost too early.
  16. My understanding of a "smokey" in the context of the draft is someone who gets selected well ahead of where they normally would - as in coming out of the clouds. In Hunt's case, he wasn't predicted to be selected in the draft and was unheard of by all bar a few draft watchers, hence the smokey tag. Given that there's little to compare him with, he is more likely to be picked as a rookie if at all this year unless a club has been following him closely and like what they see. In that case, a late draft pick.

  18. On the matter of the new diet, I heard somewhere that Port Adelaide has been doing much the same thing for the last two seasons. If that's the case, then I hope we can replicate the same results on the field over the next couple of seasons.
  19. I actually found this interview on the AFL site with some of Chris Pelchen's views fascinating:- No such thing as a draft smokey': Chris Pelchen sorts fact from fiction. But then I read about this kid and I reckon he's your smokey, just as Jayden Hunt was last year- Runs on the board: gun cricketer nominates for the draft According to Inside Football writer Brett Anderson on SEN tonight, Melbourne is one of the club's interested in him.
  20. DFA2 = not much ado about nothing.
  21. Open session with the entire available list in action again today. Weather looking good. Perfect day for the track watchers.
  22. Not long ago the AFL ruled that it would not give help to clubs with past records of offending against AFL rules so the Bombers would not qualify for any special draft assistance because they of their governance sanctions on the doping issue in August 2013. Besides that, they have promising young players like Joe Daniher and the Merrett boys plus James Gwilt who they recently picked up as a bargain through delisted free agency as well as two picks in the top 20 in next week's draft. Whatever happens, they don't deserve or need any special assistance from the AFL to help them out in these circumstances.
  23. Open hearing on Essendon players a must to reassure public
  24. Dean Bailey tried. Mark Neeld tried. Paul Roos tried. Two caretaker coaches tried. Were they all imparting the wrong message or was Blease not listening?
