I’m surprised Charlie’s been sent to the tribunal. I suspect that $1k will jump out of his pocket after tomorrow’s hearing. Ed looks in a bit more trouble.

My wish for today is that the boys at Casey get through the day and that Jack comes up cherry ripe for selection against the Blues. A win against the Hawks would be an added and welcome bonus.

I used to go to some of Parkside’s home games because my parents had a business nearby. The local fans were tougher than some of the players and I remember seeing opposition fans being chased at the end of games by thugs with axe handles. That area’s changed and has become gentrified so I can imagine fans being greeted with tea and hot scones with jam at half time these days.

A glaring omission in light of the fact that young Tiernan Stynes made the South Metro Junior Football League Under 13 Boys Interleague squad this year. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for him in years to come.

As the wild and woolly weather persists in Victoria, the Demons should benefit from playing in Brisbane where the sun shines most of the time and pleasant conditions are expected. Go Demons!

Filipovic’s R & R break must be over. Good to see Harley Balic close to a return.

What worked against North yesterday isn’t necessarily going to work against Hawthorn next week. I’d feel more comfortable with an extra tall to play forward and give Max some relief in the ruck. Cam Pedersen and Sam Weideman will be looked at closely at Coburg today. Earlier in yesterday’s game we were a bit iffy against outside pace but we settled down and once tiredness crept into the game, we were fine. Still, a few players will be interesting - Hunt and Brayshaw in particular. With the idea of outside pace in mind, I gave some thought last week to the possible surprise inclusions of one of Oskar Baker or Charlie Spargo but they’re probably not ready by half a season at least and those fairytale debuts don’t happen any more.

Callum Twomey has tweeted the result of the game and some stats. NAB AFL Academy 17.12.114 to North Melbourne VFL 10.11.71. That’s a comprehensive victory although it has to be added that North (who had a bye at the weekend) hasn’t previously fielded a stand alone team in the current incarnation of the VFL. Stats - Walsh (22 disp, 1 goal), West (16, 9 tackles), Jones (15 disp).

Yes, they do seem to be keeping a low profile. Fox Footy was advertising a live showing earlier in the week but I don’t think it eventuated. Are there any reports anywhere (not that they’re going to mean much to MFC fans at this point in time, given that our first choice in this year’s draft is likely to be close to 40 (in the absence of a brilliant trade).
