@picket fence Jeffo’s not here today but I asked one of our physios (which is actually better because oftentimes the players aren’t given much detail about their own injury, especially prognoses) and he said that what Jeffo said - ready for round 2 - is correct AT THIS STAGE. He said it depends on what sort of fortnight he has. There are boxes to be ticked.

I’m the only spectator here (you stood me up, Wallbanger!). There’s only the four players out there but as Rhett (Casey coach) just said, small quantity, loads of quality. And he’s right.

Second training session is underway. Four players only (I guess they’re the ones who like a sleep-in 😁) Roo, Checkers, Riv and Disco. No soccer balls this time. They’re running short sprints and now handballing practice in a circle, three balls going at the same time. Checkers is ready for round one. I asked him if he’s 100% and he replied, “Well Ghosty, is anybody ever 100%?” Philosophical, I like it.

I feel like we’re gonna be talking about Trelly for a long time to come. The boy is special. I commented on the excitement that’s brewing over the prospect of two Picketts out there and how the more people talk about it the more pressure put on him. I said I suspect he’ll handle the pressure well such is his nature. He said “It won’t be a problem… I’ll take that pressure and turn it into fuel.”

#34 is well over his illness and is feeling great.

Yeah. The second session begins at 2:45pm. The boys who attended the first session won’t be at the next. Injured players won’t be there. One of the physios told me there’ll be six or eight players, maximum.

That’s coz there’s not a lot of training g going on. The best thing I saw today was lil Tommy Matthews doing cool tricks with a soccer ball. Knee, head, foot, other foot: the ball didn’t hit the ground once.

Just repeating what AMW, Wheels and the physio said.

Exactly. He would’ve been foolish to have played. By that stage he didn’t care how we fared. His mind was in Sydney with his body following as soon as possible thereafter.

Why would he care about that? He was already a Sydney Swan in every way except physically.

Last year Bill Laurie said he hopes one day we do players’ songs after goals. He said he’d be “ironic” and pick something “…funny, like classical music” (not knowing he was talking to a big fan of classical music). I suggested he choose the third movement of Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35 by Frédéric Chopin. He asked if it’s “funny” and I said Yeah it’s hilarious. What I didn’t tell him is its title is Marche funèbre, commonly known as the Death March. 😁
