  1. All this bad press is bound to have a negative affect on youg dratees expectations, which will affect the morale once they get up there. GWS is going to have one hell of a job creating a positive culture. I think they have stuffed up huge time.
  2. Perhaps Sheedy should buy his wife a pink helicopter. May have a bigger impact in the Sydney media. (I'm sure Vlad could tip in a couple big ones to help with the purchase.)
  3. I think this is brilliant. If he does have a bung knee then we have saved a fair bit of our cap and got two early round draft picks instead of a player who may struggle to reach his potential because of the knee. If he doesn't have a bung knee then good on the MFC for playing the mind games that other clubs do all the time. And if the MFC have upset Sheedy - I am very very happy.
  4. And a screamer from Robbie Flower
  5. Some things never change....those Carlscum... Found this gem of a picture on flickr from the State Library. The caption is "This wood engraving, published in Police news, August 5, 1876, shows a Melbourne football player named Longden as he is kicked in the head by Carlton Imperial player." There is a group for Demons photos on Flickr. Have a browse, is some good and some not so good. Feel free to add more. http://www.flickr.co...ne_demons/pool/
  6. There is still 300 AFL reporters running around looking for a story because they don't get their break until Christmas, and "Melbourne did a good job" just doesn't sell copy. And nothing else happens untill the end of next week with the release of next years FIXture. So expect more of the same next week, of course unless some poor 18 yo player finds himself in the wrong place at the right time.
  7. Of course none of those teams were tanking. Only Melbourne tanks according to many in the press. West Coast last year were just list managing.
  8. I would be rapped if we could beat everyone except say Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn and Carlton when playing at the Gee, as well as Gold Coast, GWS, and Port when playing interstate, and win one game at Ethihad. If we did that we should be around 7 to 9, depending on the draw. Also be within cooee of Geelong at Simonds Stadium (Kardinia Park), and no defeats by more than 40 points.
  9. Just looking at the picks GWS have in the draft, it would seem they have more picks than they can use. They already have 36 players listed on their site. How many are they allowed to have on their list, and is their a minimum number they have to take in the draft?
  10. Just read his bio on the Lion's website - very impressed http://www.lions.com.au/players/playerprofile/mitchellclark/tabid/5189/playerid/13992/category/senior/season/2011/selected/bio/default.aspx
  11. Love SEN, even listen over the internet at work, but Bartlet's I genrally find the dguy on 9 - 12 annoying, and his guests pretty much are the same. This morning's carp is enough for me, so shall take the obvious step and turn it off. Pitt really coz the rest fo the shows are great. Attention SEN advertisers, don't bother paying for the 9 to 12 timeslot.
  12. Don't like either team (understatement), but have some family who file them so I suppose I'll have to support them.
  13. Does anyone know how the AFL works out these amounts. Is it based on need, does it include compensation for playing in Darwin, are AFL negotiated stadium deals taken into account? To me that is more important than the amount each club gets. The AFL control almost all of the strings when it comes to club finances to the extent that the difference between the funding between Hawthorn and Geelong at one end and the Bulldogs and North at the other is just a rounding error to them.
  14. I think Melbourne played this very well, while we didn't retain Tom, we made sure they paid well above what they initially were offering (if you believe the rumours). This means we get two early picks and GWS are going to be short on slaary cap space in a few years time, just when they hope to be succesful (and Melbourne will be). So if Sheedy was targetting us he didn't get it all his way.
  15. Wonder if Clint Bartram has any history with the new coach given Clint was probably at Ocean Grove around the same time.
  16. Actually may be grounds for breach. If so could save a few dollars and not pay him the remaining. He certainly won't miss it, and we certainly could use it.
  17. Am a little confused about some of the Scully stuff. There is talk about him being a person of integrity. There is talk that he came home from China early because of inappropriate behaviour. But now it would appear that he may lack integrity himself, although I doubt we will ever know if he out and out lied or if he just bent the truth. Also while there are many things that can be said about Sheedy, I don't think he is the epitome of integrity. While he may one day become a great player, I doubt he will ever be remembered as a person of integrity. Unfortunately this is what Demetriou's AFL has made people into.
  18. Depends if they have already had there 1 call for the day!
  19. Yep thanks AD - missed the fine print, should have read the more carefully. Would be interested in the demographics, who paid etc. Often can influence the outcome. Even time of day they called can have a huge bearing on the result.
  20. Research shows China is the best country in the world to live. I researched where people lived and found more people live in China than any other country, therefore it must be the best place to live. Note that I have shown the source of the research, in that I did it. This atrocious piece of journalism doesn't even mention if it was done by the AFL, an academic,Eddie, or the journalist themselves. I would correlate that if it had been taken further the research would have found that the Chinese AFL team is the best supported in the world, closely followed by the India team. (I saw both of them play at the recent International Cup,and well the standard is not quite up there at AFL level)
  21. Just noted that we only won 30 quarters out of 88 for the season. Is the worst after Gold Coast and Port. In 2008 we won 23 quarters but every other year since 2006 we have done better than 30. No wonder it felt like a crap year. In fact it is incredible that we won 8.5 games based on those 30 quarters.
  22. Would have been interesting to see the result if played at Skilled Sadium.
  23. Yes but as more team join the competition they are climbing the ladder.
