Yep.... in 2014!

On SEN this morning there seemed to be a line of thought going that Jobe Watson didn't know these were performance enhancing drugs. Of course he knew they were. They were either performance or recovery enhancing. Why else would you take them? So the question is were they legal performance enhancing drugs.

I wonder if AOD-9604 is OK to take? I know we should check with ASADA? Naa, that's to easy lets ask the ACC, or wikipedia, perhaps ask my granny! Why go the crime commission on an issue like this?
-
So the Dees get $500K and two staff suspended for cheating by trying to lose, and Essendon get off for cheating to try and win. Better not happen.

Haven't looked at the constitution Tricky, so I expect you are right, but I am a little surprised. However, from memory I think the AGM has to be held later in the year if there are more nominations for the board than there are positions, otherwise it can be held early in the new year as has occured in the last few years. So in theory the AFL board could be voted out in 6 months time. The point of my post was to say we do have rights and that this is not a takeover, close, but not. For me I would only consider seeking to vote them out in the short term if there was suggestions of merger, disbanding or relocation.
-
It isn’t quite that simple. The AFL can't just appoint the board. They can influence so that their nomination is the successful nomination for a casual vacancy. For there to be a casual vacancy someone has to stand aside. So we are in the hands of the board that was returned unopposed at the last General Meeting. If those members stand aside then others can fill the positions. Bit of a mute point really as the AFL will get what they want. My suggestion is we see what unfolds, and if we really don't like the board they put together we raise the correct number of member names on a petition to force an extraordinary general meeting. We would also need to find suitable alternates that could do a better job than the AFL puts up!

At least we can look forward with interest to this weeks game, as opposed to with dread or even worse, ambivalence.

When was the last time we went into a game with less bad press than the opposition?

SEN reporting meeting of all staff and players at the club in 30 minutes time.
-
I doubt we will get a vote on this, but I would sure feel a lot more comfortable if he came out and said: "No merger, No relocation. I will do what t takes to make them survive and prosper." Then perhaps we could start to consider him on equal terms with other candidates.
-
I am sure that Don, and some others would gladly stand aside for the right new board members. Hopefully not a full turn-over of all positions as some continuity is clearly needed and besides there are a few who are relatively new and so can't be blamed for the current situation. A smooth hand-over to a new board which replaces a number of key personnel, with a newly defined role and structure would prove heaps about the potential for the club to be turned around. A wholesale takeover with an extraordinary general meeting and a vote required will set us back even further. Edit: typos

No coach has won premierships as coach at more than two clubs. Will Malthouse be the first?
-
didn't the AFL change the rules in regard to poaching assistant coaches? Does that include directors of coaching? While I think it would be brilliant to take someone else from Collingwood, do we really want to try another one?
-
just did the survey, for what it is worth. Doubt it will make much difference. KB once said "The AFL have a very good understanding of what us fans like. They run lots of surveys." Pitty they don't actually talk to some of us from time to time!

If we sack Neeld now, any potential future coach may think this place has a history of sacking coaches and others, and they have a poor list, so think I may wait for the next opportunity at another club. Leave him in until the end of the year. If we are planning on getting a new coach, we can start looking now. Fremantle pulled it off.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Flying Cloud replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interested to hear a doctor's view on this. Can a doctor in practice write a script and have a pharmacist have it filled if the substance isn't approved for human consumption. I have been to chemists who have questioned things such as quantities of certain prescribed medications, as it did not fit within standard practice. Also, I understand that WADA have banned everything not approved for human use, but can this really cover items applied to the skin? If so then where do soap, shampoo, laundry detergent fit into the equation? -
Not agreeeing or disagreeing, but after re-reading the CVs of the current board the question I have is who, or at least what different skills and experience, do we want or need?
-
Thank you RR for your clarification. Yes I did watch, but may have misunderstood. Doesn't change the points I was trying make though. Seems wrong to name players at Melbourne when the players may not have been aware of Dank's involvement. I also still doubt that every club know the names, credentials and questionable history of all pharmacists and other suppliers that their players, staff and doctors use.

Is your support of the MFC unconditional ?
Flying Cloud replied to Hannibal's topic in Melbourne Demons
Probably a bit strong to say I wouldn't watch the game ever again, but if the Demons folded I think I would probably join up with the Melbourne Tigers (basketball). The best thing about footy is that you have a team to follow. -
Sack everyone who lied, or didn't answer to the fullest, but.... Dank was a qulaified pharmacist. Does every club know the names credentials and criminal history of all pharmacists that their players, staff and doctors use. Remember that prior to this issues breaking, Dank was just another pharmacist. He most definitely provided lots of people with perfectly legal stuff. Also interesting that the ABC withheld the names of Essendon players in the text messages, but not the Melbourne players. For the players this may be the first time they knew that they had been provided stuff by Dank.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Flying Cloud replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting comment on SEN just then, missed who said it. Seems there are a lot of people who believe Dank is not telling the truth when he gave Hird banned substance, but is telling the truth when he says he didn't inject players with any banned substances. -

Interesting re Dank. Imagine WADA/ASADA could go after him, but reality is no professional sporting organisation will ever touch him again regardless of the findings, so any penalty they hand out would be meaningless. However, there is of course the AFP investigation...
