  1. This is quite the stretch SWYL. Several players have said that Goody is not the 'motivational speech' type. So it really would have to be some strange collective psych for them all to lightbulb at the same moment. However, if you had cited Daniher's moving address, then maybe there could be something in that. But then, we were seemingly down and out from an external perspective vs. Gold Coast as well. I think it's just steady, growing self-belief and learning how to win.
  2. He must be close to the quickest hand-to-boot footballer in the league. The goal this week, and last, and I think two in his debut, they almost happened quicker than the eye - in that I really had no idea what had happened in that very moment until the ball was on its journey. How is anyone supposed to defend that?
  3. I've always said that I can understand that the footy dept. sees something in the kid that I can't. But, that said, the cynic me also wonders if we're gaming the system a small fraction. A new role in the 2's, in which he can achieve some serious numbers, a contract extension, and then suddenly we have some trade value where before there was none. Or do we genuinely think that JKH can break into the current and near-future Melbourne team as an inside mid?
  4. Is it wrong to 'like' this? Just a little bit? What the heck.
  5. The half-forward line is hilarious. Not so much just for Tmac's inclusion but the profile pics. Greene; cocky aloof. Tmac; football is serious. Billings; clown college.
  6. That it was unnecessary is a reasonable view open to some reasonable counter-arguments. But you're right, he still would have lead from the front on the weekend with or without the label, and others still would have most likely followed. In that, your view kind of works both ways; it may have been unnecessary, but it was much of a muchness. I share that opinion, but think it was inevitable, so why not just do it now and march on ahead?
  7. Apparently Jack Viney just re-signed for 18 more years as well. And ticked the future genetic-engineering-rights waiver-box. ?
  8. Any chance you could change your username for the rest of the week? I keep reading it as Win4theEagles . . .
  9. Apparently Sam Weideman just re-signed as well. ?
  10. The thing that stood out with me for the Crows during their flag era was the attack off half-back and the type of players used in defence (as well as having a blessed injury run and along with positional flexibility). I think the Crows were really the first to make running, rebounding half-backs a focal point. That's what I see Goody bringing from his early days.
  11. 98' we could have done it without Lyon. But got stitched up by the AFL's Friday-night deal with the Kangas. Three of their last four H&A games in the slot, followed by their QF and then prelim against us, while we didn't have one all year. Our final round fixture was a Sunday. Then the QF and Semi on a Saturday, and copped the Prelim on a six-day break against the under-lights specialists. The only upside? I think it cost North the flag.
  12. Boy, did I drink before that game. Can only remember the first 15 or so minutes and have never watched a single second of replay.
  13. There was always going to be a time when Melbourne and GWS would battle it out over a few years. With other teams such as Sydney and Hawthorn falling away more rapidly than expected this season, that time is now. I cursed hitting rock-bottom at the same time as GC and GWS were introduced, but I now think the draft buggery and spread of talent across the league is finally having an effect, and has us in much better stead for a longer run at the top than first imagined. Especially with all the also-rans prepared to sell their houses for a star player or two. As to the flag, who can beat us? Adelaide, Geelong, Richmond and the Dogs will already have serious footsteps echoing in the heads (although Geelong and Sydney are wily enough to remain a concern), and then there's Port and GWS. St Kilda - pfft. Essendon, should they make it, we will destroy. Keep above West Coast on the ladder, and we're set for a genuine tilt.
  14. In respect to those who questioned the Viney co-captaincy, hardly anyone brought it up during his poor run of early-season form when the cheap conclusions were there for the taking. .
  15. Strangely, the siege mentality is actually getting stronger now that we're not the beaten dogs of the comp and seem to have the AFLHQ/umpiring/tribunal/media slowly turning in our favour. I get the feeling Melbourne fans are going to be quite unbearable if we actually win a flag.
  16. Wait - did he re-re-sign, or did the bumper just pick the closest thread at hand for a spot of praise?
  17. Love Roos. But I'd guess the emotional attachment is overshadowed by the professional attachment. His legacy and all that. He and Jackson are the architects, and credit will be due, but it's only human to desire that you're contribution won't be forgotten.
  18. Knighthood and Pedo's are unfortunately rather common.
  19. We should absolutely definitely pin this up in the locker-room for motivation against Sydney. AFL Top Ten, you just made the list next to Mitch Robinson, Caro, Brock, $cully and that sprinkler at Casey.
  20. So. In 2000, the Essendon Football Club, IMO the best all-round team to ever take the field (AFL), lost an infamous flood-fest to the Bulldogs 81-92 as their sole blemish on an almost perfect season. Outside of this, are we on track for the most competitive, attacking season in AFL history? Our biggest losing margin stands at 29 - round 3 with all the injury and inaccuracy caveats v Geelong. Our lowest score for the season: 75 (also subject to injury, where we didn't kick a goal in the last). Average losing margin is 12 points, skewed by the above. And we've also still been within a goal in every fourth-quarter for he season. Can anyone genuinely stop us, even with our makeshift attack? 2011 Collingwood were tonked by Geelong in a final-round tactical masterclass. 1995 Carlton copped some bizarre floggings in the middle of the season. Has anyone else been this consistent in a season with an attacking mind-set? #anyoneanywhere
  21. Bring it to my house and I will never complain about our away strip again.
  22. It's like some freakish genetic experiment.
  23. You're interfering with my glow mono. And I am keen on introducing more potential gems. But, yes, misplaced in the selection thread. More a general question.
  24. When will Melbourne Break these Embarrassing Stereotypes? thread. 2017 v West Coast. DemonOX dumps artisan beer in favour of a barrel of Bundy Rum.
  25. Every tight game this year. ANB too.
