Unfortunately footy has moved on from the contest first approach. Just look at the NBA for example, how different it was in the early 2000s. Then you arrive to the GSW of the mid 2010s. In today's NBA, you basically are no good if you can't shoot. Same is happening in footy, it's not enough to be physically imposing or athletic. Skills are the most valuable commodity.
