State of Origin is Back
More and more the game is becoming a commercial entertainment exercise. Slightly off topic and I guess it will never happen because AFL would lose some revenue……reduce the home and away season so that each team only plays each other once (and have some byes to pad out the time between March and September) Of course it will still be a ‘fixture’, but hopefully it would become less of a contrived and biased fixture. And of course this will never happen

We Owe Pies
There has been a lot said about what Maynard did. It wasn’t a good look and still bemuses me the way the AFL (predictably) handled the aftermath. In my opinion there has not been enough said about what a vast amount of Collingwood supporters did at the ground when Gus was lying knocked out cold on the ground. And that was they started chanting Collingwooood. FMDead! The atmosphere was toxic. I still get angry when I think about that. Talk about filthy pack mentality. Totally unacceptable and forgivable. That is why I despise Collingwood so much. It is because of their supporters. They truly are the Filth. To be honest, with a few obvious exceptions I don’t mind the vast majority of Collingwood players and the style of football they play. But don’t get me wrong, I want us to smash ‘em every time we play them. If we aren’t in contention for a flag, ABC. Simple as that.

Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
Always been a May fan. His heart has always been in the right place……even when he crossed the line a couple of times. Sadly, can’t say the same for Petracca. The difference being May has always been ‘Team Melbourne’ first and foremost. Petracca has always been ‘Team Petracca’ first and foremost. Both very good players and I would suggest that Petracca was the better player out of the two. But I have always liked the concept that a champion team will beat a team of champions. I am glad that Mayzie is hanging around.

Training Ground?
No research whatsoever so I could be way off the mark here. Wasn’t Hawthorn at Waverley and is so why did they decide to move to wherever they are at now?

"I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes" - Chris Scott
Certainly is a bit of a pattern isn’t there. I pretty much turned the telly not long after the game had finished….but I did get to hear Dangefield get up on the stage and speak. In my opinion I thought he did really well. Congratulated Brisbane but also made the point that coming second doesn’t mean that it should be all doom and gloom. There is only one in eighteen chance of winning a premiership. I reckon if your team finishes in the top four it ain’t all bad. A premiership would of course be better but not winning it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. Certainly beats finishing bottom four. I now must look up the press conference and feel Scott’s pain. 😉

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
Totally agree with your last paragraph. Anyone is better than no one. To be honest when I watched last night’s game my only interest was in seeing Collingwood losing. Didn’t notice BM at all! I actually had to double check this morning the team lists from last night’s game to see if he actually played….but having said that I’d still take him

Bored with Footy? A great option.
I might be on the outer here. Actually always enjoyed watching finals footy. And when Melbourne isn’t in it a big upside is that I don’t stress watching the footy. And when Collingeffingwood is in it I pretty much barrack for all the other sides. Still have three contenders. ABC.

Welcome to Demonland: Steven King
I think he is too close to the players😉

Pushing and Shoving
I have seen none better throwing himself on the boundary line and getting a free….. but agree, he is a gifted footballer

GAMEDAY: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Totally agree with both comments. Borrowing from the Queen?, it truly has been a ‘annus horribilis’ season to date but…….if we happen to beat Collingwood tonight that then contributes to them not winning the premiership….all will be forgiven. Highly unlikely, but I still live in hope. GO DEES

PREGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
You forgot to mention the Melbourne supporters chanting ‘Mellllboourne’ whilst they are putting both players on the stretchers

What's Collingwood ever done for Melbourne?
What’s Collingwood ever done for Melbourne? Answer - In the past few years they have caused us (me) abject misery. I honestly hope we can return the favour a little in the last game of the home & away season (our mini grand final in August)🤞

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Yeah, I know it’s not going to happen because said he wasn’t interested and I guess they are looking for someone new ( which I can totally understand) but if he was asked and said yes I wouldn’t be disappointed. I would much prefer him to Buckley.
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
First few comments are very much self vested Pretty much from the day Buckley absconded to the Ferals from Brisbane I very much got on and stayed on the ‘I love to hate Buckley’ bandwagon for so many reasons. It was a long and good ride. So just on that level it would trouble me if he ended up our coach. The only person I would even more dislike having as our coach is Hird. I actually despise him for what he did at Essendon. Unforgivable, particularly more so because he is still in denial that he did no wrong. Ironically I think he would be a far better coach than Buckley. I would be most happy if we got fresh blood in as our new coach. As mentioned by others, first time new coaches seem to do better than recycled coaches.

GAMEDAY: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
Purely from a curiosity perspective, considering what just happened a few days ago and your close relationship with some of the players, what sort of Melbourne do you think will front up this afternoon? I flip and flop, I can see a real statement game or I can see them going through the motions. In other words, I have no idea😐 If I had to guess, sadly it will be the later, hope I’m proven wrong

Simon Goodwin Sacked
In my mind the difference is simply respect….to the bloke that got us our first flag in 57 years.

GAMEDAY: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
Something just doesn’t feel right about today. Sure there are arguments for and against Goody staying, but I’m still grieving a bit. Just like I suspect quite a few players are. Come what may, he was our premiership coach and he always had our players best interests….and was and still is a bloody good bloke. Some people were critical of Langdon’s presser the other day for essentially saying as it is rather than spin. I certainly wasn’t. Call it as it is. On the flip side not long after, there was Gawny doing the spin as expected saying something to the effect that he was amazed how quickly he and the side has moved on. It was very easy to see right through this. He was just doing his job. In my opinion he clearly was not a happy man. Go Dees for today and the following two weeks. Not sure what team turns up though. Footy supposedly is always bigger than any individual. But also go Goody (yeah I know his financially secure and all that) I still wish him all the best. No matter which way you slice it or dice it, the club hierarchy at the end of the day [censored] on him. And he felt it. Go Dees.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
All through my working life I was always amazed at the number of extroverts that knew how to say all the right things at the right time and they inevitably got the ‘job’. When they came on board and people scratched a little deeper, in a lot of instances they were found out to be as deep as a puddle in a desert. Actions speak louder than words. Buckley appears to be a front runner. If he gets the job I just hope that he is not one of those kind of extroverts. Time will tell.

May to Tribunal
Pretty much agree with all of the above comments. The AFL is an absolute basket case. It is a self vested hypocritical commercial entertainment industry. I also totally agree that in this day and age that we must try and look after the physical welfare of our players. You can manage risks by trying to reduce them but practically speaking you can’t totally eliminate them. Football is a contact sport and there are risks and accidents will occasionally happen. I can only keep saying that in my opinion both May and Newcombe’s unfortunate collisions should not have been cited nor should they have been suspended. Neither player showed malice or intentionally tried to hurt the other player. All four players (in both incidents) were just trying to win the football. Simple as that.

May to Tribunal
Absolute [censored] isn’t it

May to Tribunal
I understand the logic of what you are saying but of course it’s not going to happen. I am just bemused by the irony of how two accidental collision are seen so differently. Even from a Channel 7 commentary perspective. From what I recall from the other week we were shown multiple slow motion replays of the May incident, but last night it was a different story. The AFL and the majority of its commercial partners stink. The only thing that ‘pleased’ me about the May incident was how many people in the football community not aligned to the MFC (putting aside and ignoring the click bait Nazis) said that he should not be suspended. For what it’s worth my opinion is that Jai Newcombe should not be cited or suspended, nor should have May.
