I like our emblem and I don't mind the new Tiger one either.

Nicholson and Bail training with the midfield today.

Joel Macdonald also in Group of Death - maybe a pointer to his and Bater's continuation. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/gallery-e6frf9o6-1226181470236?page=2

I've been a big fan of "best available" early in the draft because you just want to get good players into your 22 - but by the time you get into the 30s and beyond needs starts to play a part because there's not much point selecting a player who will be 3rd in line for a well filled role when another player may fill a role where we have a deficit.

Looks like Joel has been enlisted as another one of Neeld's soldiers. Good on him - well done!

Methodical preparation, discipline to play your role for the team, good judgment under pressure - all apparently unimportant to winning? -
First running about a dozen 400s in 3 groups based on running capacity - although Cale was inexplicably in group 2. Jones and Bail leading in group 1, Sam Blease in the rear of group 3. Then the non-rehab players split up into their areas for minor ball work which provided some insight - notables highlighted (I think I've got it close to right - corrections welcome): Forwards ======== Watts Dunn Martin Howe T.McDonald Blease Fitzpatrick Backs ===== Bartram Bennell Morton Garland Rivers J.Macdonald Davis Mids ==== Jones Gysberts Bate Viney Moloney Gawn Jamar Bail Nicholson Rehab ====== Clark Sylvia McKenzie Petterd Grimes Cook Tapscott Davey Jetta Spencer Lawrence Strauss Evans Absent ====== Frawley - International Trengove - International Green - International Jurrah - unofficially reported delayed by Qantas action Newton - unknown Wonnaeamirri - officially delisted

The ATO must be interested in this, surely Phil's $100K has to be entirely taxed at Tom's top marginal rate? Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/daddy-of-all-headaches-20111028-1mocg.html#ixzz1c7WCpjFr -

I do agree that Phat Phil Scully is apparently a bottom feeding opportunist with a snout for deal - must have the hide of an armadillo. -

2011: "next to no accountability" - 11 tackles .... OK 2010: Leon isn't Robinson Crusoe as a talented small forward who has struggled to impact a close hard fought Grand Final - the best of the era Stephen Milne has also struggled.

You stole a Bentley but they took it off you and gave you two Holdens. -
That's not the reason why though.

I think we play 8 in the 22 not counting "the flankers" - the starting 5 with the ruckman and 3 on the bench with the 2nd ruckman - one of them is interchange. At least 1 of "the flankers" run through the midfield also so I reckon there's 9 in the 22. Moloney, McKenzie, Trengove, Sylvia, Blease, Bail, Jones, Grimes, Gysberts, Morton, Petterd ...

You must have missed Round 18 2009. Clubs take any advantage of the rules they can and they'd be stupid not to. -

I know many here would like to go back to hi-top boots and 6 games on Saturday between Victorian teams but the AFL is expanding the footprint of the game and is dominating Australian sport - just look in the paper, back pages go to football in the off-season. The AFL draw tomorrow will splatter the Cup carnival and test cricket lead-up in South Africa. You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs and GWS has to get decent players from somewhere. At least the AFL is providing compensation - they could have written the rules without any. We've got 2 mid first rounders in return for a #! pick that, do I need to remind you, we received by exploiting another AFL rule to help underachievers. Let's move on and make the most of the compensation, hope that the Scully's reap what they sow and dwell in misery at GWS as we march on to flags. -

How can we be when Ablett got $9M over 5 years and the 2 Scully's $s put together won't touch that? While I think Geelong got ripped off - I was very pleased to see that we got the same compo for Scully Why aggravate the hand that feeds us for no real gain for no legitimate reason? The AFL have put the Phil Scully $s in the GWS cap - let it go.
