I actually think we (along with Carlton, Hawthorn, West Coast, Essendon, Adelaide the Dogs and perhaps the Tigers) are actually in the best position of all when it comes to the draft concessions coming up. It's teams like Geelong (aging), Fremantle (one year too late), St. Kilda, Sydney (in the worst position of all) and North Melbourne, who are really going to suffer over the next few years. Although it's easy to see Geelong staying on top for a few more years now, it's amazing how quickly things can change.

Is there any chance at all of this forward line? Davey Miller/Bate Maric Wonaeamirri Sylvia Jetta Strict instructions not to bomb long, with Miller and Bate as roaming forwards. Keep the ball wide near the forward line and take advantage of monstrous forward pressure and frequent ball ups/throw ins. The purpose of having Miller and Bate as dual CHFs is to have them create marking contests at around the 70-30 meters from goal range. Keep the ball in contested situations at all times and maximize the ability of our in-and-under midfield to utilize their tackling and contested ball-winning skills. This would be a unique and thoroughly disconcerting (for the opponent) attacking game-style that focuses on time spent inside 50, rather than number of entries or marks in that area. Thoughts? Feel free to flame away, but it's something I'd love to see.

I disagree. Newton is Like Fevola in a number of ways. But the most important is their attitudinal similarities. Let's face it, Juice Newton is never going to play like, or apply the forward pressure of a Davey or Wonaeamirri (especially that of the former in his debut year), so to show him a guy who he is like (i.e. Fevola) would probably be beneficial. I don't know if you watched the game on Thursday, but there was an early passage of play in the Blues forward line in which Fev, in the space of half a second, applied more defensive pressure - in the form of two monstrous tackles - than Newton has in his entire life. Now, Fevola's no tackling maestro, nor would he probably care to be, but he's obviously been told to pick up his defensive pressure. And it appears he's done so. Brendan Fevola of four years ago barely even chased half-heartedly, let alone lay tackles one after another like he did on Thursday.

If, however, you as a coach were told that Ben Cousins, a guy with a history of hamstring problems, had a minor knee complaint that had been rectified, would you place further pressure on those on the field by keeping a guy who (as far as you knew) was healthy on the bench for a whole quarter, thereby minimizing the amount of recovery time the entire rest of the team would be able to enjoy?

EDIT: LOL @ "Whealen's" lack of talent, Garland's inconsistency, Bartram and Bell's supposed steps up last year, "Bran" Green apparently being a midfielder last year and "lacking smarts (or courage)", Valenti's promotion off the rookie list (when did that happen?), Davey and "Wonnaeamirri" being unsuited to the forward line, Maric being a ruckman. Plus, who cares x2.
