  1. Well I'm a younger supporter. I'm 19 and go every week, very often by myself. I could go with my grandfather and sit up on the second tier in the MCC members with a thermos and a wool blanket, or I could sit in the rain with the cheer squad and scream my guts out. In my opinion, there is an older "toffee" generation, but it may be disappearing as the next generation of supporters come in. Unfortunately, there aren't really enough Melbourne supporters my age to make a difference.

    Brad Green

Perhaps you're right. Actually, on thinking about it, I would not actively trade Green. I'd only talk to another club if Green wanted to move.

    Brad Green

I love Brad Green to death and would be sad to see him go. In saying that, I also think that he's one of the only guys we have that we could get a high draft pick for. Put it this way, I'm certain that if we trade Brad Green for a high pick, we will win a premiership within the next 4 years.
  4. Totally agree. However, I think this thread will quickly deteriorate into a slinging match between those who think he'll be great and those who who think he'll only be good. "He's so agile for a big man," they'll say. "Yeah, but he's practically a hindrance in the ruck," the others will reply. "No way. His taps to advantage are at x percent. He's the next Cox" "Not a chance. He just doesn't have a real position . . ." And so on, and so on, ad infinitum.
  5. Yeah, I know. I was just asking if I remembered correctly about Gehrig. When did Lloyd do it?
  6. Just like me. See, this is the kind of supporter I'm talking about. One who is a huge Demon fan but more than that, loves the game enough not to ruin it complaining about perceived corruption.
  7. But he did it in the Preliminary Final against Port Adelaide, didn't he? I'm talking about a home-and-away game in which two players on opposing teams both got the ton.
  8. Let's try to leave that in the past, shall we?
  9. Looked to me like he started to do that on Saturday. Only problem is he's got a long finger and a big butt.
  10. I'd only take Watts if we can't get an assurance from (1st option) Rich or (2nd option) Naita that there won't be a 'go-home' factor for either of them. The last thing I want is for a reverse Chris Judd situation to happen
  11. Add to that Grimes and Miller, and our leadership stocks suddenly don't to bad.
  12. Has one game of footy ever had two players from opposite teams kick a ton?
  13. Welcome back, buddy. It'd be good to go out with a win against 9thmond, but they did well today against Tassie.
  14. Good analysis. There's no doubting they'll be in trouble in years to come if Wells and others are unable to replace the older stars.
  15. Again, I agree. I'm just saying that there was a time when all of that didn't matter. All that used to matter was the number of goals kicked. Not any more, and that's a good thing. Carn the Juice!
  16. Winning cultures only exist in teams that are winning a lot at the time. Hawthorn, Geelong, the Bulldogs, Sydney; all these teams have winning cultures now, but will soon become rabbles again, while Melbourne, West Coast, Carlton and others will soon start winning again. Richmond, a so-called Top Club, was abysmal a few years ago, and so was Carlton. Bad teams create an illusion of bad culture, and vice versa.
  17. I didn't see it so I can't say. It'd be a shame if he got suspended; he's coming into some good form.
  18. Not too sure. The problem with North is that they rely too heavily on their better players to perform every week. The rest of their guys may work well as a team, but they're not good enough collectively to win the flag, particularly if Grant, Harvey, Hale or Wells get injured.
  19. Don't get me wrong, I agree and was very happy with him. I'm just pointing out that it takes very little to turn a poor game into a good one. Especially for a young forward.
  20. A lot of people think the Kangas have it. Not me. They lose winnable games far too easily for that. The truth is that no team nowadays really has a 'winning' or 'losing' culture. Some teams are better than other, sure, but Geelong's winning culture will fade very quickly in a few years. This will probably coincide with the resurgence of the good old Carlton arrogance that inexplicably went missing in the past 6 or so years.
  21. It's interesting that Newton has kicked 2 goals a few times this year but been lambasted. He did the same yesterday but has been widely praised, and that's on the back of just a few more marks and tackles. It just goes to show how much more guys in the forward line have to do these days in order to be seen to have played a satisfactory game.
  22. But there's an ideological difference between tanking and what Sumich was talking about. It probably amounts to much the same thing - poor performance, but there is a difference. Being bad now in order to find out something about your players and gameplan is not the same as intentionally making it hard for your team to win so that you can pick up better draft picks.
  23. That's a real shame. I for one love the game almost as much as I love the Dees.
