  1. Add to that 'huge preseason' a marathon session in the psych chair to figure out what goes wrong in his head when he's challenged by an opponent.
  2. Agree. Dean Bailey sacked the club by causing his players to play with such a lack of spirit or (to use a phrase from his parlance) competitiveness. In that interview, he talked about the 'influence' he had on his players. Surely he would realize after a loss like we had that his influence was not as positive as it could have been. I really feel he caused by his total unflappability and lack of emotion, an air of 'whatever, it's just a game.' I read that in Jack Watts' response to a similar question earlier in the year. While it's an admirable trait to have in daily life, not being extremely disappointed when you lose is a pathway to complacency. If even one of his players felt that way (as Jack Watts admitted he did), then IMO Dean Bailey failed to influence his players in the right way.
  3. Blame the Melbourne culture for corrupting Scully, while simultaneously praising him for getting the Hell out of here while he still could.
  4. Just back from a 3.2k. 14 minutes - I think I need to do a little more work in order to be an elite mid, that's for sure . . .
  5. This is what I heard: PART A: "Getting a good 3k result doesn't mean you'll have a good year." PART B: "Cale Morton didn't get a good 3k result, therefore he must not have any good qualities at all."
  6. So if I were to raise them as zombies for use in my genesis device, they will be able to return to England, having just been granted a term of unnatural life? Excellent. It's all falling into place now.
  7. Exactly. You can't stop the rain. All you can do is prepare for it by bringing a raincoat. If you're especially vigilant, you will know when it's going to rain, but that is all.
  8. I believe that was me who said that. My point being that I would play him ahead of Bartram no matter what, at this stage. Regardless of their differing sizes, I would always prefer to have Macdonald in the side.
  9. It appears you can add Nicholson to that list. Probably spent all his holidays training, which is exactly what I'd be doing if I were gunning for a position on the senior list.
  10. Since I saw it in another thread an totally agree: "Person X says hello."
  11. Predicting a ginormous year for this guy next year. He's still young and by my reckoning is one of only a few senior players who have improved every year since coming to the club. With his results in the 3k time trial today, I really feel that he's set up to take his game to the next level. If I'm right, I hope you all remember that I called it. EDIT: PS, Bump
  12. You can't, like own the air, man. It belongs to Mother Earth. Peace.
  13. "Denham's heart beats cold and black for the Red and Blue"
  14. If only I could avoid worrying about chasing money while simultaneously chowing down on express-posted $17 muesli! Kidding. It's interesting how often you hear people who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness talk about how that experience has helped them find out what's really important. I wonder why humans have a tendency to only really start living their lives once they've been tagged with a use-by date.
  15. My thoughts are that leading a diverse group of young men, many of which you have barely met, is a very effective way of improving your leadership skills.
  16. People have a psychological need to worry about something. It's advantageous to always want to improve your life, but unfortunately our lives have become so good (or easy) that most of the crap we worry about is totally irrelevant. Case in point.
  17. The whole Austin Wonaeamirri-turtle association reminds me of the Mony Python sketch about Two Sheds Jackson. A man briefly mentions that he might possibly one day get a second shed maybe and the rest of the world gets stuck on that miniscule aspect of his life. Wona once mentioned that he liked eating turtle, so naturally he will never be known for anything else. I'll be sad to see him go. I always thought he was just too short to make it, but I s'pose that doesn't matter now, does it?
  18. Sage words. Most people's morals are far too flimsy for that.
  19. It's what's called a "truism." Something that is so obvious that it really need not be said. "Talls take time" is not necesseraly so universal as to be a truism, but it is generally well-known enought that it doesn't need mentioning.
  20. WHAT? TOM SCULLY'S GONE? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?!?!
