I totally agree. Except I don't rate our ability to learn. At all.

In my ideal footy world, there are 0 preseason games, 0 byes, 0 interchanges, 16 teams, 32 rounds, 18 men on the field, 4 men on the bench, a 44 man list, and it's up to the coach to figure out how to deal with it all from week to week and from minute to minute.

True. Until we win our flag or this group has failed, I will forever hearken back to that golden month of footy we played last year that started with us smashing the Dogs and ended when Bugg did a Barry Hall on Callum Mills in that Sydney game. To me, that month was 3 people: Jack Viney, Tom McDonald, and Tomas Bugg. We need to get those three on the same ground together again because they are so important to our culture. Call me superstitious (or worse) about the third bloke, but the first 2 are beyond dispute. Add in Gawn and Hogan and that month of footy would have gone on all year I reckon.

I love Garland for how much he loves Melbourne, but I feel he was one of those Paul Roos talked of when he said we were still "Scarred."

Wilkes-Maester's career was cruelled by not by injury but by how he'd only get to play Melbourne just twice a year.

Jack Viney is more than what he does onfield. He seems to lift us to another plane through sheer will alone. His teammates play with 25% more spunk when he's out there.

This is one that I've been on and on about for years. It just makes no sense that a bloke can come in and wrap me up as I've tackled his teammate. Pay a free to me for being held without it.

The best Melbourne side I've seen since 2006. Goodwin should go back and have a look at those tapes to see what we did so well back then. To me it boils down to: Viney lead like a bull, McDonald gave a huge bullseye to aim at, Pedo was on fire, and Bugg did Bugg things (I don't know why, but he made us hard to stop in that month).

From round 1 I thought "We'll have to just see how we go till McDonald and Viney come back." Win this week and get our chief back while at 4-3 would be huge. With Viney back we go up a gear due to more than just his skill. He makes his teammates walk 10 foot tall, so to get him back while still ahead on win-loss would be huge for us and would set us up for a big year.

It'll be good when Trac comes back in too. One more to switch through mid and up front.
