I have a slightly different take on this; GWS needs Canberra for a few decades to establish itself (yes, it may never happen) in WS. They have done a really good job with ingratiating themselves to the Canberra region. Canberra cannot survive a Raiders, Brumbies, and an AFL team. We would get 18k every second week, that’s not the problem, the problem is corporate support. I am told it’s exhausted already.

I’m implying he’s 19 and played a lot back in his junior days, I give him a lot of time because it is the hardest position on the field but from what I can see (and it is hard on TV) his leading patterns are a bit odd and he sometimes run himself out of position.

IMO it isn’t the best thing for JVR to have Petty and Gawn down there with him. Three blind mice all trying to act like they’re forwards.

Well done to the Dees and Kozzie. His pace and skills are a class above the rest and he is so clever with the pill. He can be one of the most damaging players with his ability to start and finish off bursts from the defensive side of centre.

Yeah, same. Pace, neat skills, seems to have smarts, he should back himself to do any role outside the key positions.

I am taking the weekend off the death ride. Hawthorn are tanking quite well right now - a couple of honourable losses ensure Smitchell can continue the tank away from prying eyes half a world away. An added wrinkle to using multiple high picks to get ND1 is that how many young players do we have biding time in the VFL that are waiting for a young side to age/retire/lose form/be traded and we are going to bring more into that logjam? It’s a good problem to have no doubt but if you can pool an investment of your 24-26th best players to get a top 15 player for your team, you’d do it. Especially with our window wide open while Gawn, May, Grundy, and Viney still around.
