  1. Actually I am wrong, multiple reports say 5 years. That was… not wise.
  2. I don’t think he has 2 years left. He wasn’t given a 5 yr contract.
  3. You may have thought it was fairly clear because my argument and what you thought my argument was are two sides of a coin. As in, the remedy to the perception that the AFL Integrity Unit cannot help the broader footy community is to have it be more reflective of that community. And whether that perception is reality or not is kind of beside the point. My best mate is a cop and I love him and he is a great person but his experiences have changed his views when it comes to Indigenous and African members of the community. He is quick to judge and assume and I can see him doing his job well if he had someone of those backgrounds to assist but I can see them be guarded with the way he talks about their community and their proclivities. Anyway, we are getting way off track. Happy to chat in the grey though - that’s where the answers are.
  4. So that’s one of my points; you accept there has been racism in the past but refuse to engage in a specific instance where racism, or even the perception thereof, may have played a negative factor. A panel of white former cops is not going to engender confidence in indigenous footballers to engage with good faith with an investigation because they don’t think it will be reciprocated. Its the most benign argument I have made on here since I argued last year that Weideman might be better in the ruck. If you don’t see the point I am making and prefer to conflate it with some sort of ‘reverse racism’ that is your tactic of deflection to use. But don’t think we can’t see it as a tactic.
  5. I wasn’t deflecting, I was contextualising because you think that if you boil down someone’s alternate view to some horrible argument then you have won. But if you think that the horrible argument that me and many others are making is that we have historically racist institutions in this country… lol Then you have just boiled it down to the truth. Welcome to reality! The toilets are to the right, the drinks are on the left, you can dance where you find room but avoid the buffet - it’s been out a long time because we’ve been here an effing long time!
  6. I am always amazed by those that have a worldview that is constantly attacked by the facts on the ground. You can think what you want about me, but I worry for you and those you influence that cannot see what is right in front of you. Is this news abhorrent? Are those charged with assisting those impacted set up to help them? What would diminish reporting on things like this in real time? Unfortunately for some, these are questions that you don’t want asked because the answers only lead to conclusions you simply don’t want to acknowledge. You can live in that alternate universe, but don’t expect my silence when it comes up in actual reality.
  7. I said that? Every white cop is racist? I intimated that a unit with that make up is not ideal to manage, not encourage, accusations made by indigenous Australians in their workplace. Talking about attitudinal issues, go stare at yourself in the mirror and say that the biases and preconceptions of 5 white former cops is a healthy place for indigenous people to receive their ‘natural justice.’ If you can do that, you would be looking at a deluded individual.
  8. @ding and @faultydet you can throw up all you like but what biases and preconceptions do you think that unit takes into its investigations and reports? Like FMD, there is a massive segment of Australian society who will admit there are issues but not admit the underlying causes, effects or impacts, or any remedies. Just a message of “why are you making a thing of it?” and excuses or portrayed grievance and victimisation.
  9. And backed up by ubiquitous and sustained historical experience… No one is fired yet, but we are allowed to be appalled.
  10. And this may be why having 5 white former cops in the AFL Integrity Unit (in Jimmy Carr’s voice) is maybe not the best idea…
  11. Hird got 12 months for conduct unbecoming. … just something to think about.
  12. I don’t know about the rest of you, but after the initial shock and disgust, my head went to ‘how many other clubs have had this mindset and for how long?’ Devaluing indigenous people is not new, it’s widespread across institutions and how prevalent it is/was may dictate what penalties occur because maybe we would casting a great deal of people out into the ether… Such a shame we are here still.
  13. Totally. So silly. … So Harry McKay. Bedford, Pick 31, and a confident glance?
  14. Gastro that lasts multiple pages and threads is really tough. He should probably get those anti-nausea wafers.
  15. All our developing mids are playing out of position in the AFL; Sparrow and Jordon. Also how many do we need? We have either star dynamic mids or solid tough mids, all of which have 5+ years left and contracts just as long. Even Harmes rarely gets into the middle. Frankly, I am fine with developing forwards to run through the midfield and provide run with good skills and not bothering too much with developing the next Sparrow. Obviously if we find a talent then you get that kid but we have made our midfield bed, time to fix the forward line and the connection into it.
  16. I also think he will be traded. But we have to find a team to take him. We are not going to ‘dump’ him and eat $500k.
  17. That last line is misleading - even with Gawn we could be smashed in there. We don’t seem to rate clearances very highly.
  18. It’s an interesting conundrum. I don’t rate ruckman contribution so Grundy has to get back to his best for us to get something out of this. I would just make Weideman back up and have limits of what Gawn does in the middle but I can see the allure of getting someone that doesn’t demand Max be thrown back in the ruck or sitting under kicks.
  19. lol who has won a flag? Fagan or Goodwin. Fagan isn’t in the same league of coach.
  20. I think the insight one can glean from us chasing a top 5 ruck is that Max can’t take much more of being flogged from pillar to post in the ruck anymore. And that we see his last few years as a FF who can ruck forward and go into the middle when needed. What an amazing career he has had as the premier ruck for more than half a decade. Now we try to fashion a forward line around him.
  21. It’s enough to get a couple of decent professionals in without sending your own picks. We should have got similar; remember how good Bernie Vince was? Second round pick IIRC.
  22. They also have kids or players past their prime so they should have some flexibility. But yes, I would wager they are banking on GrunDee and the spike in the cap (~$600k I heard).
  23. Yeah, that’s a forward line that has to have it delivered well to; otherwise the transition will kill it.
  24. We have to find forwards with speed and decent skills to jump into the middle and not the other way around. That will completely change our fortunes in my view. Petracca and Oliver are bulls, they don’t need more bulls in there. Especially now that Viney and Brayshaw are there. They need skill to distribute to on the outside. Preferably skill that is at home in the F50 as they will be there for most of the time.
  25. Not only that but Fagan doesn’t bother himself with the game plan and how they want to move the footy - on 360 early in the season he was asked about why some teams don’t man the mark with the Stand Rule and he said yeah, he’s not sure and made up some nonsense - the very next package showed the Lions not manning the mark. He is the old style British Manager. I just hope he brings in an assistant who cares about defence - because they are nowhere far too often.
