  1. Yes. So the magnets can just sit there.
  2. Yes, every Demon should stop and appreciate this before Gawn gets over the hill; we have half a dozen generational talents and three all timers. Wow indeed.
  3. It certainly does set us apart. And you can do things like this with great mids - it’s conversations like this that give a good indicator of why we have CP5, CO13 and AB10 signed up for so long. That kind of midfield enables you to play any way you want really. And as you imply - when you look at what we have down back - it makes it easy to know how we should play. Pressure forwards, defender push up the ground to ensure territory, mids get it going for territory, outnumber one in defence to intercept. Swans are late to the contested ball party and if we kick straight and deliver well enough into the forward line on quick plays I expect this to be over by HT.
  4. @binmanyou asked at one point why other teams don’t do the ‘triangle’ extra man in defence that acts as a goalkeeper of sorts. The critical thing is the opponent has to keep their extra in the midfield and not allow 1-1s in our backline so it takes a few things for us to maintain this; 1. Smart, talented defenders who can make this work and organise the team to get the outnumber back. 2. A midfield that can compete with one less at stoppages up the ground. Obviously we have an advantage other teams don’t. 3. Lever and May. Now this is a riff off the first one but these two are so smart that they ensure we pull players from the stoppage to get either Lever if we are pressing up, or May alone into the D50. So a lot of teams can do this but jeez they have to get it right or it will mean easy hit ups all the way up the ground due to the outnumber.
  5. Of course he meant this - he’s a hype man for the finals he is talking up all the teams. Every single team has been talked up this year as a flag chance - it’s a huge final series.
  6. Logue is not going to upgrade ND14 to ND2. Also I just don’t think this FD cares about draft packages per se, they will have players in mind (both to be drafted and exisiting pros) and they will ask enough from Freo to get their targets. Unless they don’t have good enough targets and we punt forward 12 months with future picks.
  7. As DD said - don’t believe GNF. He is simply the worst poster on here. And I include olisik and Dr D in that.
  8. Don’t know about this, if we can afford to keep LJ/take on Grundy we have space… plus the cap goes up $600k next year from a report I heard on Sportsday. Shift Weideman and Tomlinson and you have more.
  9. Sure. Whatever you say.
  10. Both of you - wrong. He is obviously talking about former Pittsburgh Quarterback Terry Bradshaw. But he is turning 74 this year and I just don’t think we want to commit to a short term option at Quarterback especially considering he really plays a different system and also our sport doesn’t have that role within the rules…
  11. No?! Spill.
  12. It will be a dark day when you are removed, but these things happen. Andy reinstates you, but you never return… Sad.
  13. One addendum to this - he can’t say this, for his own sake, if he is just another ‘iron in the fire’ for us that we are looking at. So his management would need to be on the phones a lot…
  14. Yes, if Brodie wants to get to the Dees and we value him appropriately- he simply has to name us and stipulate that he doesn’t care what the terms of the deal are - he is either staying on his current wage or he is going with the $500-$600k MFC is offering and the max ND35 they are providing the Magpies. Now this sentiment goes out the window when we talk about LJ to Freo but there it is - this is the year to get your Dodoro on.
  15. Look at you going around reigniting threads to keep the place ticking over, you are the James McDonald of Demonland. So first things first; we are sorry for removing you from the site a couple years earlier than you were ready, and we really appreciate you not putting a Norm Smith-like curse on the joint when this inevitably happens. Secondly, yeah, no, Gus doing great. Efficiency down but that’s because he gets it so much and in pressure situations.
  16. I would avoid doubling down on a ruck position, yes.
  17. If Gawn is injured, you can’t replace your best players and we are going to struggle. Having a great replacement for Gawn is such a waste of investment. Someone needs to be first ruck and surely the 6 time AA ruckman will be that.
  18. I would get a Meek type to play at Casey in addition to having Weed play 2nd ruck at AFL. And I don’t think we have had a great sample size with Weed as back up ruck with this forward line. I just think it is a cheaper option to mooted alternatives and may mean we can do our search for a tall fwd in a years time when they may be more options. Also bringing money forward for Oliver, Petracca, and Brayshaw that can gives us flexibility in later years. This is the beauty of these long term deals - they provide long term stability and flexibility.
  19. How dare you talk about @Demonland like that!
  20. 2 massive things in his favour - not carrying 2 primary rucks is a comparative advantage, and his tapwork is actually quite good. Great for a forward. I don’t want Grundy at the mooted price, Meek is zero fwd craft from what I have seen, other options aren’t worth the move from where I sit… It’s a definite need for attention but I hope for Sam still. Last dice roll of course.
  21. Seen a few comments after his efforts in the ruck yesterday. Unless we are trying to find a direct unicorn replacement for LJ I think the better option would be Weideman to back up Gawn with a ‘cheap’ or young ruckman at Casey to back both up. Then I would make a play for an established tall forward with the cap space and the draft capital revived for LJ. With Brown/TMac 2 years away from kaput - this year or next we need to source their replacement. Is it van rooyen? Maybe. Is he big enough? Sam as back up takes the pressure off his forward craft and positioning and allows us to play a ruck who is good enough forward while also good enough in the ruck. Can Sam be an adequate back up ruck in a top 4 team?
  22. @george_on_the_outeri don’t want to get into the definition of world class but i have spent a bit of time up here at the AIS and it is comparable whether or not is shared. These are excellent athletes and they have the facilities to get the most out of themselves.
  23. I think median age of your best 12 players would be the best indicator. Im not doing that research but that would be a good indicator… What?
