What we do with these picks I am more interested in. State borders and distance should not be a determining factor in who we draft.

Assuming we went tall forward hunting and flamed out, one benefit might be with these long term contracts to CP5, AB10, and CO13 is the ability to upfront some of what we owe. That will make it easier to target players longer term. Small comfort but still valuable.
