  1. Don't care about wins. And they will take care of themselves when you develop the right players. Watts, Maric, Scully, Trengove, Grimes, Spencer/Meesen, Bennell, Petterd, and Wonaeamirri to play 16+ games Strauss, Blease, Pick 11, and Jetta to play 8+ games. I think we are good enough to win between 6-11 games but unless players look like they are regressing there should be no magic win/loss record that defines our future.
  2. I think he could be an A grade mid. But that's a long way from where he is now. Great awareness, lateral movement, smarts. Decent kick, but can improve. Hopefully, we can get him to stay beyond 2010.
  3. Pretty certain you heard the news late. Hence Redleg's comforting sentence.
  4. I don't know how the club sees him. Another who is adequate at everything and good at nothing. Trade week may bring him a home otherwise - he has some work to do.
  5. I agree with everything else you said. But this last statement looks like a jibe at those that think like I do - that development of Watts, Scully, Trengove, Blease, Strauss, Jetta, Bennell, Maric, Grimes, Morton, Spencer, Jurrah, and Petterd is more important than winning games in 2010. If pumping 16+ games into Watts, Scully, Trengove, Blease, and Maric means we lose 3 or 4 extra games then so be it. We should be building toward our flag window, and it will need the development of the above players. Development that needs to happen in 2010. Does that mean I think we will win only 4 games? Of course not. But if this development of players means winning 7 games instead of 10 or 11, I would still do it. I would sacrifice more wins to build that Premiership team.
  6. I tell you guys, I was a bit worried about Cale but... Thanks, Freak. Put my mind at ease. Cale is going to be sh!tloads better than Mitch. Phew!
  7. Bittnerness is fine, but you have to bite your tongue in public Robbo...

    Ruckmen

You're getting dryer by the day. Jamar was good this year, but will be 30 in 2013... Meesen and Spencer look alright as tap ruckmen but limited in every other sense. Martin could be back-up ruckman for another 6+ years (it's all about the aggressiveness and assertive style, needs to learn how to kick though). Do I have to mention PJ? If we trade Jamar, then look for a replacement. If not, see whether Meesen or Spencer can progress.
  9. Answer the man's question: What negativity? The negativity that is the Ladder? Because that gets re-set Saturday Evening and we are back in alphabetical order! Yes! We're mid-table!!
  10. 'Strengthen' more than 'bring forward.' Apologies for the poor choice of words. What I am saying is that I am almost certain we would prefer to have 'Pick 11' from 2013-2020 than Brock McLean. Especially if that player picked is a KPF. Now to back that up: McLean would be 26-33 during that time and, I believe, superceded in the midfield by Bennell, Maric, Scully, Trengove, Blease, and/or Strauss. Given decent recruiting, Pick 11 could be 21-28 in that window and play an important role in our tilt. Pick 11 would have a greater contribution to our premiership aspirations than Brock McLean. (Although, as an afterthought, how old was Franklin last year?)
  11. The Aaron Davey Scholarship that was launched a few months ago sets aside a RL spot every year for an indigenous fella from the NT. Please tell me if I am wrong about any of the particulars, people.
  12. Who we take is important in judging this deal but the fact remains - McLean is not worth a pick in the single figures, even in this draft. Add to this fact that we are going to get two brand spanking new mids in the draft and suddenly we are selling surplus stock at retail prices. We have done well, and it strengthens our push to be a flag worthy side from 2013 onwards.
  13. Great year. I think it will continue... Plays with an arrogance that very few of our players have. Bold. As our midfield gets better, he should get better and kick more goals. Relies on others to get him the ball, but is up there with Bate and Davey in terms of intelligent kicks into the forward line.
  14. You left out Bate and Morton. You are racist against extremely white people. Tsk, tsk.
  15. Exactly. The 'honesty session' (where Bailey said McLean would play a periphery role), the salary decrease, and the quickness of the deal being done with Carlton, all lead to the conclusion that the MFC were exploring their options with regard to retaining McLean.
  16. Just adding to what H. said - if we get a decent KPF at 11 like so many on here think we need, we will not be pushing back our chances of a flag from approx. 2013 onwards, in fact we would be bringing it forward. We have only sacrificed short term results, and I am all for that if it goes toward the greater goal.
  17. A number of us on this board looked at Moloney, Jones, and McLean and wondered whether they could play in the one midfield. Bailey was honest enough to tell McLean that with two mids coming in the draft and Blease, Bennell, Grimes, and Maric he would not play in the role he wanted to. He saw the writing on the wall, the club facilitated a trade of a player they were willing to give up ahead of Moloney and Jones, and Carlton were eager to tie up a deal before other clubs started circling. As for the proposed pay cut - Is anyone going to get on here and say that McLean was worth the $1.2m over 3 that we gave him?
  18. I know AFL pretty well. Never knew there were footballers called Danny Stanley and Ryan Cook... As always, defer to BP.
  19. Come on. I agree that people should be allowed to post whatever inane ramblings they want, but you can't throw that back and say that Nasher cannot get on here and call them out on it. And 'not adding anything to the discussion'? You're kidding me?! Half the people on here add very little, and I include myself in this. I spent an hour playing joke-tennis with 45HG16 on a thread yesterday. Added nothing whatsoever to the discussion, but who gives a flying. And school holidays bring the worst of the youngest generation on here to say stupid things, but who gives a flying. And people are patronising in real life, but who gives a flying.

    Salary Cap

Guys, read the OP. Mono is talking about using the mandatory 92.5% of the salary cap that we are about 82-85% at this minute. You can give a silly salary to someone like a Burgoyne or a Ball, or you can spread the love around to all our very good young players and inflate their salary so much that in 3 years time we can't fit them all in. Have a think about that and then post in this thread. That was patronising, I apologise. I'm antsy and anxious, and a little sleepy.
  21. Huh? I am 'positive' up to a point. Don't know how much of my stuff you've read... But I have little issue with Mono calling for Bailey's head half way through 2008. He can say that, and I can call him an idiot. It's the circle of life. It's a forum involving the worst team in the AFL (RIchmond will be it soon), negativity is a given. Deal with it and disagree with what people say. And if they call you a [censored], turn the other cheek and know that they called you that because they don't have the grey matter to keep up. BTW, no offence Mono. Just had that example on the top of my head.
  22. This is where good grammar pays off. Resignings is a sh!tload different to re-signings.
  23. Can the excitable people jumping down Nasher's throat step back, clam down, and read the post he was replying to. It was a post I made about indicting Bailey on a Davey-gone hypothetical. And Jaded, you should know better. Just because there are a few non-hysterical people on here repeating to posters that the sky isn't falling doesn't mean you get to knee-cap them for it. If you feel patronised by what Nasher said, you have self-esteem issues. Remember, no-one can make you feel inferior but you.

    Salary Cap

Davey on a new contract, frontloaded, will earn near a $1m. Gotta pay someone.
  25. Noise. Patronising noise. And I just wanted to use that. And this.
