  1. I would prefer Davey get the cash rather than inflate the already inflated wages of our kids. And 4 years? Maybe a year too many, but I would back the bloke to go alright in 2013. It will be a contract year after all...
  2. I mentioned this a few times, most recently in the Knights thread. I believe the compromise step, the prudent step, with regard to Dean Bailey's position is to give him a one year extension right now to give him a year and a half to get us back up the ladder. If we go into next year as is, and reassess after Rd 11-15 we will have fired the coach or given him another three years based on 11-15 rounds of evidence. That isn't how you run a successful footy club. Let's hedge our bets and take the prudent step. Give him 2011 right now.
  3. Now, that's a 3-word analysis that Joeboy would be proud of...
  4. Butcher's got Buckley's chance now... Hello Mr. Trengove. Hey Mr. Rpfc. Who are the posters to read and admire? Well, I'll tell you who you don't have to worry about...
  5. We HAVE to pay $7.34m next year. Geelong CAN ONLY pay $7.95m next year. I know what everyone is thinking - we aren't getting value for money... We have to pay someone, he was going to be on big money, he is now on big money and now he has a deal that ties in that scholarship deal that he started and other little things that I am sure will come out in the next few days. Stakka, over on Ology, has lost his nut over this and I have no idea why. We have no stars, except for Davey, of course he is going to get a good deal.
  6. The role he plays lends itself to a lot of action if the midfield remains shizen, so my 'most likely' Top 6 was a bit pessimistic on what we would achieve next year, a bit conservative. But if Grimes, Morton, Frawley, and Jones can take on greater roles in 2010 (and the senior players stay injury free) we should have a decent season.
  7. Well let's do it again. Top 6 in 2009 - Davey, Bruce, Green, Moloney, McLean, and Sylvia. A possible A grade wingman, 2 ageing B+ players, 2 injury prone and slow midfielders, and a young man who we all hope can be a damaging HFF. Not the stuff flags are made of (to make that pithy). Most likely 'Top 6 in 2010' - Davey, Sylvia, Moloney, Jones, Warnock, and Rivers. Mostly owing to the fact that are defence is our strong area and the first four provide 100 possessions every game. No inside/outside dynamic midfielder present, and little speed mean that if this is our best 6 in 2010 we are not going to have that rapid improvement we all desire. The 'Top 6 in 2010' that would see us improve significantly as it means the continued progress of important young players, and is possible given a proper pre-season - Davey, Sylvia, Grimes, Frawley, Morton, and Jones. This puts a lot of pressure on the last 4 boys considering their ages (and some may question Jones but if we are to do well next year, we are going to have to get better in the clearances and he is our most naturally gifted clearance player). We know what Davey and Sylvia at their best can do, consistency is what they need. Grimes in the midfield could be our dynamic in/out mid that we have crying out for, Frawley can be the Scarlett-like counter-attacking gorilla-tamer, Morton could be a Richo-resembling wingman that floats across at both end of the field and impacts the game, and I have already mentioned the importance of a clearance player like Jones stepping up and cleaning up his disposal. Now I beleieve that this is their destiny, but it is all about how quickly they to get these destinations that will determine our improvement in this competition.
  8. Davey is that. Green could kick 40 goals in a pocket next year, and I hope he embraces that role because he isn't going to be in the midfield. Good leader with a few good years left. May be a Ben Dixon though, if you know what I mean...
  9. Now this is the essence of where your head is at. I understand the desire to see the MFC be a respected footy club that people want to come to. They'll like us when we win. We are not attractive for various reasons but the selfless acts of the FD in the last 6 weeks have set us up to become that respected team. Of course, nothing is certain, but decisions like moving on a slow midfielder that is on the periphery is nothing to be depressed or worried about.
  10. Might be buying him some real estate, or some shares. Think laterally Mono.
  11. Well, this would help us keep Spencer. Valenti may not agree if he has a few clubs whispering sweet nothings. But it could free up a spot that could mean Buckley or McNamara stay when they otherwise would have gone. I just hope that final change means they don't have to enter BOTH drafts, becuase if it is only the PSD then they might be picked up in the ND.
  12. This is where this idea of wait until next season loses me. I don't want to give an extension of three years on 11 rounds of evidence. I don't want to sack a coach on 11 rounds of evidence. This is what we would effectively be doing. Give him 2 years from now to give us real improvement up the ladder. Give him a one year extension.
  13. Slow start but I have great ideas for this kid. Great skills and balance. I want this kid to be able to run 15k a game and become a fantastic inside/outside midfielder. I think he can be an elite mid.
  14. I can't stand the way these nuff-nuffs put 'Go Dees 2010' as if to assuage the barrage they expect for posting such tripe. Won't work. You are clueless gomelb. And D'Land really should have a sign on the front page that says 'Warning: School Holidays.' Thankfully, they will be at school during trade week...
  15. So have I. I undersrtand you are a Family Guy fan and I respect that, but what utter tripe you have just posted. What has happened since this awful tanking issue has come up? McLean for Pick 11. That's it. Davey wanted security for his family and he has re-signed. But you get rid of a slow mid who would play on a flank next year for a pick that is more than he is worth and suddenly Bailey can't coach, the MFC has a bad culture, and we have just hastened the MFC apocolypse. I don't want to sound patronising, because apparently all I am is sarcastic and patronising, but some of what I have read from MFC supporters over the past week has been some of the most pathetic, self-loathing, nonsensical rubbish you would ever see on the internet. The whole internet... All 2000 pages of the internet...
  16. Do you mean dafatcat? Or some other erroneous feline?
  17. I know! Burning plastic? I hope they had proper ventilation... Although, if they didn't, it would explain a few things...
  18. He will. Scully will make him look better than he is. But I'm OK with that.
  19. If we are paying 'over the odds' it is because of the fact that we have to reach 92.5% of the salary cap. One extra year is not going to kill us. But, it sets a dangerous precedent... What the hell is that?! OMG! It's a precedent. They're dangerous! Jesus! Yeah?! Get the Escalade. We're outta here!
  20. The names that I posited are the ones that hangon007 was mulling over. My deletions are slightly different but not by much. I really think it is moot until trade week because we might do a few 'nufty' deals like Newton somewhere for a pick we won't use. We can do this thread in more detail at the end of next week.
  21. Aaron held all the cards in this negotiation. Had his best season, his laser left foot was consistently highlighted in the media, and he has shown a great deal of leadership around the club. 4 years doesn't worry me. Keeping the younger players interested with shorter deals is a good idea but AD has been very consistent (despite the tripe in this thread) and was fantastic in his first full season in the middle in 09. I will back him to put in a very solid 4 years of service. 2013 will be his tenth season, so he will not qualify for the VL until the next year. However, if his contract is frontloaded, and I trust it is, then his salary will be managable for 2012 and 2013.
  22. A bloke over on Ology thinks that because Ablett is on $650k that Davey shouldn't get near that number. Bruce is on $550k. There is a minimum to the salary cap and we have to pay someone. The top players at all clubs will be payed roughly the same amount. $1.8/$2.1 over the next three years.
  23. The 6 that would survive from your group are Newton, Bell, Johnson, Dunn (as those four are contracted apparently), PSD1 (always keep PSD1), and Miller (as he is your 1st preference to survive from the rest that are OOC). Pick 50 will not be used. Batram, McNamara, Buckley, and Valenti to be delisted. Barring trades of course... Busy week next week, I presume...
  24. What has Bailey done wrong so far? That is not a rhetorical question, there are no right or wrong answers, I want to get people's opinion on what he has done wrong so far and why many don't want the recently mooted 1 year extension. My personal view is that our ladder position has been perfect considering the fact that if you are going to lose 14 or 15 games you may aswell lose 18. I have seen real, and substantial improvement in a number of players, and the introduction of talented youth. I believe half a year of footy (2010) is not enough to gauge whether he can coach and builf a flag winning team. And it is effectively half a year if we have the same draw as this year and he gets the sack mid-year. If we have an adequate start to the year, Bailey will be extended around Rd12-16 and it will be for another 3 years. And he gets 3 years on the evidence of half a years footy (2010). So 'the sack' or 3 years on the evidence of half a year of footy? That is not prudent. Give him another year right now and give him 2 years (or 1 and a half) to show us real progress up the ladder.
  25. It'll be a trade or he'll stay. They won't sack him and get nothing for it.
