  1. That's mean spirited sarcasm and it makes the neurotic people on here feel bad. Apologise or be called a [censored]. Your choice.
  2. You could have just read the line after the one you bolded. Would have saved you a post...

    COUNTDOWN

Err, I'm no good under pressure. Sean Wellman for the latest M5... No, that's an assistant coach and an automobile. I'll leave it to the experts. Experts that think that Miller and Valenti can get Pick 22... They are giants among men. Oh, that's dripping in sarcasm and, let's face it, it's mean spirited. Sorry... I'll make it up. Umm, I reckon Jamar is worth a top ten pick... Off you go...
  4. Slipping back into old and annoyingly negative habits here Mono. Davey is a leader on the field and a fine bloke off the field. He is a star wingman with a lethal left foot. He is our hardest working midfielder. He is 'tradeable' but who isn't? He needs to be resigned. And I think he will be. I'm going to be the patronising guy that says this - why do we have to get so excited over rumour and innuendo? And most of it is from Bigfooty...
  5. I don't know how the club sees Miller, but if he is just 'depth' in their eyes - what's the point? It's not fair to him, it's not going to help us in another development year to give games to someone who isn't going to be around. And it would be hardly on a whim, the guy has been around since the 2001 draft. That's 8 years. I have already said that I would like Miller to stay on and attempt to play that high HF role that seems to be his only position. His value could also be felt by Watts gleaning off of him what is required, on the training track and in the gym, to get the most out of yourself and your body. 2010 is another development year and Bailey has already stated that the most important thing is to 'put games into the right players.' Shielding kids from AFL with someone that doesn't cut it makes little sense to me.
  6. Why don't we just Pass on Pick 1 so that no-one has to carry the burden? We would have to decide between Scully and Trengove but in the long run... We would still have Pick 11, which would effectively be Pick 10... Cunning. Or you could just take the best player at 1 and let him deal with it like Hodge has, and Riewoldt, and Murphy, and Gibbs, Cooney...
  7. ?? Read H.'s post. It's not about the pick, it is about the idea that it will be a premeditated pick of a tall regardless of whether that player is the 11th best or not. Pick the best available is what is being said. This thread is a chore.
  8. He's not favouring getting Wells, he is just saying that supporters arguing for using a first round pick on a speculative tall - a punt, as it were - will become zombified hypocrites when they turn around in 4 years time and criticise the 'punt' for not being successful.
  9. I am pretty sure one of them would have made way for Scully, Trengove, Blease, Bennell, Maric, and/or Strauss to go with Davey, Grimes, Morton, Sylvia, and Petterd. How many mids can you play with? How many slow mids can you play with? Questions, questions...

Not with his OP issues. Maybe Richmond if they are going for a huge cleanout.

    Rookies

This is an excerpt from the rule that you pulled of the net. A Club may retain a Player on its Rookie List for a third season provided that the Player has nominated himself for and was not selected at the National Draft Selection Meeting prior to the Rookie Draft Selection Meeting and prior to the Pre-Season Draft Selection Meeting the Club provides the AFL with written evidence of the Club’s and Player’s agreement to be retained as a Rookie for a third season which agreement must specify that the Player can and only will be retained as a Rookie for a third season if he is not selected by any Club at the Pre-Season Draft Selection Meeting. I was wrong, any second year rookie must go through the ND and the PSD to get a third year on a clubs RL. It would be unrealistic to expect that either of Valenti or Spencer would get though the ND and the PSD - if we rate them, other clubs might too. Personally, I don't think Valenti will be given a spot, and I think that Spencer will be an elevation in the last list lodgement before the ND.
  12. Gets a lot of stick from 45HG16 but will be a great player. Hopefully, his back problems can be managed. A leader of men.
  13. Why should 2010 be D/Year? He has one year, effectively half of that if we start poorly, and he is 'out the door'? Our talent are toddlers and some of our future hopes are not even at the club. I really wish people would stop using 'winning culture' like it has some visceral meaning - it is a made-up buzz word. Teams will win when they are good enough. He will have done his job if he gives games to Scully, Trengove, Pick 11, Watts, Blease, Strauss, Bennell, Maric, Jetta, Morton, Spencer, Cheney, Grimes, Wonaeamirri, Jurrah, Frawley, Petterd, Bail, Martin, and Meesen. And if he is giving games to those players he is selflessly sacrificing his own record put games into the right players that will help us win that flag. 21 new players will be at the club in 2010 since Bailey arrived. Those toddlers need time.
  14. If a team had PSD1, they should never complete their list at the ND. You never know what OOC player could find themselves there.
  15. Yeah, and when he gets here he can join Maloney, Pettard, Batrum, Silvia, Meeson, and Wonnamerri. MacClean will be gone though...

Valenti or Spencer still must go through the ND without being picked up. I would think it's unlikely that they wouldn't be picked up, especially by teams like Richmond that are going to clear out a lot of players in a shallow draft.
  17. I want to know how we can get rid of all our so-called 'list cloggers' and one very injured prospect, and get all these bloody picks?! Not every recruiting team in the AFL models themselves on Freo circa the 1990s. Just resign Davey, throw 18 around, see if we can get someone in the PSD and be done with it.
  18. For a media darling, he gets a lot of criticism...
  19. This goes over a few heads. They are adamant that the club and Bailey did the right thing, but now equivocate the 'right thing' as failure on a grand scale because of the old touchstones - the wooden spoon, and the win/loss record. 2009 was a perfect failure for mine, and its worth another year extension.

Yeah, you could do it to Buckley. We will lose Cheney or McNamara though as you have to go through the draft again. Buckley is the only one who wouldn't get picked up with his OP issues.
  21. You know what this means? There is going to be a KPF picked up at 11 or after who is going to be an out-and-out gun. As Freak says none, there shall be one. At least... Kids always wrong is where I am going with this...
  22. For those who cannot understand why myself, and others, have a lot of time for Bailey (it's hardly love), it is for these reasons: we (some sub-consciously) realise that the list he has helped build is getting better every year, and that he has been selfless with who is on the list, and who he has given games to. The players that have not progressed since DB has come to the club are Batram, McLean, Miller, PJ, Dunn, Bell, and Newton (I didn't include Buckley because of an impressive 08). One of those players is gone, and a couple others may go. I don't think that is a bad record at all. Buckley, Garland, Wonaeamirri, Martin, Davey, and Warnock all showed something and/or got better in 08. Jones, Bate, Frawley, Morton, Sylvia, Petterd, Grimes, Moloney, Cheney, Jetta, Jamar, Bennell, and Jurrah all showed something and/or got better in 09. I look forward to seeing how the club develops Watts, Maric, Meesen, McNamara, Bail, Spencer, Strauss, Blease, McKenzie, Scully, Trengove, Pick 11, Pick 18, and PSD1.
  23. Bate will take some heat from those two but they will be decade long focal points - they have to get used to attention. Keeping players on purely to keep attention away from younger players is self-defeating. That is why Knights moved Lucas out of the team and Lloyd upfield.
