  1. He has been on the list for 10 years, olisik. If he is 'in his prime' it is the near the end of it - that is how long he has taken to become a productive role player. And it is a HBF - I am sorry to all the HBFs out there but it is the easiest position to play in the world ever.
  2. I don't care about the 'will he, won't he' stuff. I care that the parameters are being changed on the fly...again. And we are being bent over a barrel...again.
  3. Absolutely. Lawyers assemble. Twist some arms, Peter. What a ridiculous ruling.
  4. Dunn has been an UFA before. No offence to Lynden, but if you could find 10 people on here worried about Dunn leaving the way you are - I would be surprised.
  5. In theory, the compensation should be the same, however, UFA has had a 'stigma' (for a lack of a better word) that has led the AFL to the view that because they have been at their club so long they have 'paid their dues' so to speak and the club will be compensated less. This has led (and other issues) to people calling for the removal of compensation entirely for UFA. Thankfully, this has not been realised just yet, but this decision will have a massive effect on our leverage with Frawley and diminishes our ability to keep him. There is now no threat of the draft, and now no trade to be done should he wish to leave. We are now completely at the mercy of James and if he does go, the AFL compensation committee. Darkhorse is right - they should appeal.
  6. This is terrible news and terrible policy; it should be average salary over the life of each players current contract. This hurts the clubs that couldn't pay the salary floor because there was no decent players to pay - front load contracts to reach the floor and be hurt when they come out of contract. We should appeal this, if in fact, it is a decision by AFL house that has been reflected by the website.
  7. We had just played the team that came 5th and the team that came 3rd and done ok. We also had to play a team that played around the time that we did in the NAB Challenge or the break between matches wouldn't sync up. I don't think it will be such a disaster to their confidence. Roos is trying to build a resilient team, he has a chance to work on that. Hooray.
  8. He took over from Pagan in 2007 and tanked the bejeezus out of that year - to get the PP and Judd with it. They were 4 and 7 after 11 rounds and then 4 and 18...
  9. I think we have failed to get the most out of the promising players we have picked. But I think the vast majority of our picks have been failures - and that is why we are where we are.
  10. I will say that I think recruitment has been the broad problem and our poor development of a few individuals has compounded the problem. To me development involves all that others have already mentioned - expectations at selection, in the game, around the club, and of the Leadership Group to teach these players from the relevant perspective - a proper perspective. These are all 'in the clouds notions' aren't they? But habits beget performance, if you have poor habits - or taught poor habits - then they are ingrained and hard to shed. One more aspect of development that has not been mentioned; tailoring a players body to the kind of player he will become. I look at Patrick Dangerfield and see his big thighs and large core and I really don't think we would have set him aside for a couple of years (he was a young recruit) and built his frame. I believe we would have got distance in his legs and he would be a Cam Bruce style player that runs and runs but isn't built to be an explosive player. I think this is where sport science meets development.
  11. Maybe make judgements and/or comparisons when you have seen him play.
  12. I think the difference between our best and worst footy is still huge. And we are trying to play a new game style based on skill execution and hard and bold running into space - it's going to fail fairly catastrophically when it does fail. The comical errors against Geelong foreshadowed the Hawthorn thumping; if we got the footy and gave it back we were punished heavily. What happens when you don't get the footy? And on the few times you do get the footy - you give it back? This season is still going to contain some terrible footy. I am hopeful that the players will settle over the course of the season and be more comfortable and confident about their role and how to play this gamplan within their limitations.
  13. What currency? We are (re)building his career as a midfielder because he can't find his niche. What team is going to offer anything of value for someone who is 'not cut out for it?'
  14. They are not the only ones struggling to hit targets. I know what your point is - we need a better skilled team to implement the game plan Roos wants to implement. That may mean a few of the above make way, improve, and/or play within their limitations.
  15. We are in trouble. We are not a good team. I know some on here thought that Roos would come in like Captain Planet and make thing suddenly work but games like yesterday are going to happen to this team. It is going to take time - especially with the game plan; it does not suit our playing list because it puts an emphasis, a requirement, on skills and hard and bold running into space. Our skills are far from refined and our confidence to run to position has been shot by years of being hammered. The rewards will be swift when skills and confidence are brought into the team by seasoned bodies - but until then - we are not a good team.
  16. You are kidding right? He has fallen on his head in sickeningly fashion playing for your club, he has dislocated his lisfranc a few weeks after that playing for your club, he has come back too early and had complications with it playing for your club, and he has had soft tissue issues in his latest ill fated return to play for your club. Now he might not play much more for your club due to the things he has endured for your club. And you are here having a go at him for having the gall to be paid for all this?

  18. It's a good thing no-one will know about it. It's all about the St Kilda game. And then the WCE game. And then the GWS game. And then...
  19. Uppity? lol Dawes and Clark don't need a conspiracy to accompany their frustrating injury issues - it's footy. Misson feeding us 'lies,' or whatever bull dust is, is footy. Sometimes they are spot on. Sometimes there are setbacks - Clark being the king of the setback. Sometimes they don't know what is wrong - Steven Tingay had a piece of chipped bone in his buttock that ruined his career that went unknown for years.
  20. I hope he got a knee in the intra club and this isn't a non-impact stress injury...
