  1. Best 9 touch 3 qtr game I have seen for a while...
  2. When you put nonsense like this in your posts, I assume that is all you speak. Those enjoying schadenfreude over Grimes' demotion are betraying their personality a little bit, but they are not 'trashing a player from within the club.' This place is most definitely 'outside pissing in' - which is where these forums should be - if we were inside the club and hamstrung in what we could post - someone would start an 'outside' forum in a day and we would be right where we are now. The verbals on here about Grimes are perfunctory - they are just a release of frustration and an injection of hope that who replaces him will be 'better.' There will be 21 more Thursday nights with teams read out and players judged by quips on here, on social media, at offices, at the pub, and in the street. It's probably best to overlook them, or ignore them.
  3. Collingwood has the Aussie flag (as it currently stands), they don't seem to have any issues representing the country through the flag (as it currently stands).
  4. I know they are included!! There are about 25k MCC members who are MFC supporters. Around half of them are MFC members and I don't know the exacts on who gets the $60 option of the $180 option (or whatever they are now). My benign point is that we look be a great deal healthier in raw numbers of members if the MCC wasn't around.
  5. Yes, I realise that he hasn't had much AFL match experience but there will be little patience for him - he has been in an elite system for half a decade - that qualifies one to be considered a professional in this business from where I sit. He needs to get going.
  6. Apologies to DA.
  7. Guys get dropped. Ain't the end just yet.
  8. Carlton were awful and the fact that Richmond started like that is so...Richmond. Judd, Murphy, and Gibbs. That is a midfield that makes one shiver in their boots...in 2010. They don't have a forward line and the way they were bashing it forward in hope was admirable but rhapsodic and ancient. All in all - I enjoyed it!
  9. Our membership numbers would be... I am not advocating anything by the way - I am merely pointing out the haphazard logic of aiming higher to achieve a better outcome if you can't even reach the, supposedly, lower target.
  10. The inclusions of some more mature bodies allows the FD to play the kids without asking them to do more than they can. Brayshaw will be the sub IMO - and the 21 will still be young but Salem is the only other teenager. The injection of HL, Garlett, and Newton at 28, 25, and 22 allow the FD to go younger with the periphery players(VandenBerg is being rewarded for his promising halves in the NAB Challenge and has been playing against men for half a decade). Hogan, Toumpas, Kent, Frost, Viney, JKH, and Tyson are all 20/21 with bodies that are beginning to allow them to do near to a seasoned pro can do. And when that happens - the form of the seasoned pros like Grimes, Michie, Jones, Bail, Terlich and McKenzie - were always going to more heavily scrutinised. If this was a decision based on "getting games into kids, and not wasting them on 'pros going nowhere'" - I disagree with that mentality whole heartedly. If this was a decision based on the form of peripheral role players being 'good enough' compared to those seasoned pros - I am all for it. And whether we win tomorrow will be mainly based on the performance of Jones, Dunn, Jetta, Garland, McDonald, Cross, HL, Garlett, Jamar, Watts, Howe, and Newton.
  11. Honestly, FO M8. We don't have the support there to go and get that many members without playing anything near decent footy. As for 'not aiming high enough' - do you really think that if we said 50k by Rd 1 we would have any more members? We couldn't even reach this so called 'modest' target of 35k. Get us around the 8, abolish the MCC, and play exciting footy for 5 years and we will have 60k... With the MCC here to stay - 45k-50k is definitely possible and profitable for the near future.
  12. 'That guy' would know quite a bit more than the people in charge of our twitter account...
  13. I was at that GC game last year - the score lies - we were not 'in it' and it felt like GC just couldn't put us away. The 8 point loss was just a stat to me, and stats lie...
  14. Red font? Must be something sinister...
  15. Thanks Brick.
  16. Nah, doesn't work like that. We are the baseline experiment for 'Just Get Games Into Them' and it was such a massive failure that it would be funny if my sense of humour had survived the disaster...
  17. Knowing Roos' desire for the kids not to be pressured into delivering more than they are capable - if he does play, he will have earned it.
  18. Whatever. You better not watch the Tour this year or NFL or MLB... Sport is trying to catch people who are trying to gain an unfair advantage. Players getting caught - even innocent ones - is the price you pay for proper management of this issue.

  20. Poor implementation by the AFL.
  21. Please, Watts was just a boy, brandished around for marketing purposes. Hogan has almost three years, about 20kgs, and a very different mindset to the boy Watts was in 2009.
  22. Time might not even tell you that...
  23. I don't know when or where this will play but the website has the spot. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-03-29/campaign-launches-melbournes-2015-season I always cringe when I am about to see things like this, and it isn't terrible but, again, selling a product is tough unless its a good product...
  24. Every couple of years I have a thread that looks at the number of players that are in the prime of their careers as a possible portent of how the team will go that year. From 2013: http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/32853-optimist-prime/?hl=prime 22+ years of age with about 70 games of experience is the approximate measure with exceptions of course. In 2013, we had Rodan, Jones, and Sylvia as the only midfielders in the prime of their careers. We have had a regrettable period since 2007, not least because of how few midfielders we have had in the prime of their careers... In 2015, we have N Jones, Lumumba, McKenzie, Cross, Vince, Trengove, M Jones, and Bail as players that will run through the midfield that are also in, or extending, their prime years. The numbers are healthier, but 3 of the 8 are peripheral players, another is injured for the season, and another is close to retirement... But it is how they compare to other clubs - even middling ones - that I believe will determine how we go this season. Note: We can absolutely include Tyson but he has only played 35 games, and his equivalent at other teams are not expected to deliver so early.
  25. Having realistic expectations doesn't make getting to the finals any harder.
