  1. They just don’t update it. Pert is adamant we will break the record of 52500.
  2. He was bullish but he did give some outs and kick that can down the road 6 months… Good to hear we didn’t need AFL assistance to survive last year. Well done to those that gave.
  3. It’s a great platform and wholly enjoyable to witness. Best win was Lions and Tigers with Dogs and Cats wins just behind them. I think we will need to go 6 and 3 at least to get a home final in the first week. As we have seen anyone can beat anyone; but GWS, Haw, Adel, and GC should be Ws if we bring our effort. Ess, PA, WB, WCE, and Geel we will need to bring our effort and execution to win but we can most definitely win a share of those. We should start to build into some form and it starts with Essendon.
  4. The Pod Bros on the Deebrief have been low on BBB and demanded Weed and now that Weed is not in form, they argue to not have a second tall at all! It’s laughable, they say ‘BB is not the answer’ based on nothing but their own biases and medical opinion. I really don’t think we can go anywhere in September with Fritsch as the second tall. Teams plan for him and run off him as if he were a cumbersome 6’6 yet if he were to be targeted like he was 6’6 in a final - we would be cooked.
  5. Make selection about list management strategy at your peril. This is not a rebuttal to your point but ‘selection integrity’ will be important in the next few years as we have a team that should be in the 8 at all stages and I am certain that W is playing as a way of convincing him to stay by saying - we have a spot for you and we rate you. I think it becomes untenable with another few weeks of him playing like this.
  6. I was there; early in the game ANB got a great hit up from Petracca and turned to see W hovering behind Moore with Darcy basically saying ‘this will be a 50/50 with me in a bad spot’ and ANB said ‘yeah, nah’ but you know what was most damning? Sam never demanded the footy and didn’t want the 50/50. He didn’t want it quick and early. You can’t think like that. You have to think that I am going to even this contest and bring it down 25 out for Pickett and Spargo. There were a few other frustrating moments but the team was down across the board so I assume the team is ready for a break. We have such an opportunity to finish top 2 and ensure an MCG preliminary final - I am eager to see if the wilt or will themselves to realise that opportunity.
  7. I know this is simplistic but you would have a player on the list until at least 2024 based on a handful of games 7 seasons prior?
  8. Whether we place top 2 is entirely up to us so that isn’t a thing I care about. However, the cats didn’t move this from Geelong even though they would get a crowd in a different state. So for the good of the game I hope the Dogs win.
  9. It’s intimated - why such belief in Weideman? And there are many posters with that belief in W that reject Brown’s recent past.
  10. Brown can come in off training form, the fact there is no VFL is not an excuse for not picking players to come in. That’s really ridiculous if you take that to the logical conclusion that no one can get a call up without first playing VFL. I wouldn’t hesitate. And the way some Dees fans waive away Brown’s recent history in the Coleman race and yet call back to one game of Weideman three years ago is cognitive dissonance of the highest calibre - you have to try hard to be so obtuse…
  11. It’s obvious the FD rate him and I can see what they see but you can’t be so bereft of confidence that you go into your shell for a month. He was backed in by the MC and Goodwin and he couldn’t get there. I remember seeing him bashful and embarrassed after the Bulldogs win and I thought to myself - ‘really? You are upset with your own performance after that win? You can’t get out of your head for 5 mins and enjoy a great team win?’ He didn’t lose me after that because I think anyone can turn it around but he has a long way to go and it may be best for all parties if we move on. We have a bonafide FF ready to take his spot and he is OOC… Cest la vie…
  12. https://demonland.com/forums/topic/50284-postgame-rd-10-vs-adelaide/
  13. Good disclaimer. Perhaps all posts should have an enforced signature to that effect. I, four letters in a seemingly random order, anonymous poster would not wish to give the impression I am paid to give these opinions nor informed enough to be considered a leaker of information.
  14. So your contribution to the discussion is dismissiveness and to fold your arms and say the club knows what it’s doing? Ok then, you’d be fun at parties. As for the cap pressure - I intimated that we would struggle to bring in any best XVIII players, not Werribee’s 5 time overlooked CHB. And the replacement of injured players through the mid season draft has negligible impact on the cap. If you want to read the CBA it’s here: https://www.aflplayers.com.au/app/uploads/2020/12/AFL_CBA_2017-2022-1.pdf I would also get you to do some self reflection about what we can post about if we can’t engage in speculation? Melkshams place in the team? Absolutely not, we don’t know the ins and outs of what he is asked to do. Gameplans? Goodwin and the players give hints but they are not going to tell us anything. The last month most of us have watched on TV - you can only speculate as to what players are doing.
  15. I wouldn’t want to play a Jordon or a Sparrow for 50 mins and used in a way to facilitate rests, chop outs forward, and fill temporary holes like I saw last week. I have coached teams where I made the vice captain play this role - if no one is to be this connective tissue player then your best players play less by definition. It’s ok to not play it against the lower teams but I would find it hard to give it to kid to perform as it has no continuity, no defined role, and it really is just a ‘get on, and contribute, and then get this person in the middle then get off to get this person on’ type of instruction. Again, this is how I see it. In my unprofessional opinion…
  16. Wow, ok, thanks for that. Didn't know you came to Demonland for professional opinions on our list management and salary cap position - you might be disappointed… Of course it is speculation, just like you have speculated that the many cheap players you have as delistees will open up enough salary to pay anyone of note. Hint - it won’t. And I am an IT Professional, so…
  17. There’s always things we can do - including moving on a player, my point is just a general ‘we have less wriggle room’ than we have ever had and it will be very difficult to bring in another Lever or Langdon. And I disagree about the bottom 20. I think I am underselling how much of the cap they take up.
  18. Unbelievable little quirk, although they are only a few bays from what I can tell.
  19. Ok so hate to burst bubbles but we are, by all reports, close to the cap. We have just over $13m maybe an extra $100k or so next year. We have the following established stars that would all be on $750k+ from next year or the year after with CP5; May, Lever, Gawn, Oliver. Let’s say ~$800k x 4 = $3.2m Next level down would have to be $600k - $750k; Salem, Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw, Langdon, McDonald. ~$700k x 6 = $4.2m Under that - the above average contract of around $400k-$600k would have; Harmes, Hibberd, Melksham, Tomlinson, ANB, Fritsch. ~$500k x 6 = $3m Jones, Jackson, Spargo, Bedford, Laurie, Bowie, Rosman, Hore, VDB, Jordon, Rivers, Weideman, Nietschke, Daw, Hunt, Sparrow, Baker, D Smith, Pickett, Petty, Chandler, M Brown, Jetta, Declase, Lockhart, Turner, J Smith, Bradtke would be cheaper than average salary right now. Rookies are ~$100k x 20 = $2m and the other 8 on ~$250k = $2m That adds up to ~$14.4m. The OOC players are only in the lower category save for Hibberd, and we have players to retain. I don’t think we are in that hunt anymore, we have our stars and until we lose a slot - we have to maintain what we have and keep our promising (and cheaper) kids around.
  20. Completely different roles with only one thing in common… Daisy is a special comments person that I agree is very knowledgeable. Caro is a journo on the behind the scenes aspects of the game and she rarely makes comment on the on field aside from straightforward judgements of form and competitiveness. There are many worse journos who can barely string a sentence together, who don’t apply any thought to the humdrum questions they put people through.
  21. I heard grizzly adams had a beard.
  22. But BBB is tearing it up at training… Kudos to the 3 people who got that reference.
