If he got longer I would be fine. Flag in 6 years, pretty good return.

‘Well in excess of 100k’… You are just setting yourself up for disappointment. We need to be in the top 4-6 teams for 6+ years with at least 2 flags and then we can talk about having market share like that.
-
And McDonald was training there too before injuries forced him forward. Bradshaw on the wing was, of course, down the list of desirable players for that role. He may want to back himself to take Harmes’ spot? Angus played an important role but please don’t let stats tell you a tall tale; Langdon was so dominant that teams avoided his wing at all costs. It was really quite something. Langdon is the superior winger and that’s not to be sneezed at; and if you are sneezing, you should probably head home.

With him signing his last contract after finishing 4th in the Brownlow playing a position he no longer plays in - it creates a problem where we won’t pay him to play in a position that can be filled by a disciplined, fit, defence first player on the other wing to Langdon. We will have to tread carefully with him and be open about how much we can pay him. He is probably backing himself to outstrip our estimations and expectations of his output on the wing and convince us that he is worth more than just the defensive wing extension to our excellent backline. Go Angus!

Wouldn’t have May OR we would have traded an excellent kid to get May, maybe Oliver??? Now that is a sliding door!

Scott: 2021 Cats/Dees Prelim Should've Been Postponed
rpfc replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
What a laughable character this guy is. And he should have been more maligned with that stare down of the Lions players he was doing last year. Never has a game been postponed outside of pandemic, the lights going out, the ground being unplayable, or for war. So did your team have Covid, Chris? If so, that’s a pretty big controversy and to keep that hidden is surely a fireable offence, yeah? But let’s give you another chance; Cars fans would love for the AFL to step in and relieve them of you - but let’s not ruin this… happy… marriage. -
…with a mouthful of food.

Writes itself, really.

What the hell are you talking about? Healy was on us from early in the season. Didn’t drop off when we had our dip mid year. Not everyone has a nefarious agenda against you.
-
I didn’t know a fait accompli resigning of our flag winning coach beloved by the entire group could bring such trolling beahviour. He is getting an extension to 2025 or 2026 (hell maybe 2027) and that is that. What is the argument about? How quickly he won the flag? Quite quickly actually; quicker than Hardwick and Thompson, a year off Clarkson.

To be fair - we have been a disappointment for a lot longer…

Petracca and Oliver clearances are a quality that make it hard to measure clearance numbers. The come back in 3rd and the start of the 4th had power running clearances out of the centre that lead directly to Fritschs speccie recover goal, the next Brown goal, the Sparrow goal, Oliver’s goal and the first of the last to Brown. Not to mention the stoppage clearance from Harmes that started the music… I think that metres gained from stoppage or scores from stoppage are a more accurate way to measure the impact we are having.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?

Viney is a very good player and leader at the MFC and will be forever in history as an important premiership player. Consistently the best finals player across 2018 and 2021 campaigns.
-
Sorry to add to the groupthink, but they get the ball in contested situations AND try to do something with it. That is a recipe for high Clanger numbers and flags.

Charlie Spargo: “yeah… yeah… 50m is one kick…yep.”

Hmmm. Lot of people would love for Harris to fail. She is playing humble at the minute, a bit too humble. But looking at how a selfless forward should play I am impressed. She is always meeting the footy. She is backing up when the ball is on the ground and she just competes in every contest. She could have a bit more form in her marking I reckon but she has been a solid contributor to this excellent team.

Never thought I would see a reference to The Core on here…

Her kicking for a 19 year old is great, she gets to that many contests as you say. I used to tell some ‘could be jets’ to not wait for their opponent to decide where the next contest was for them. McNamara dictates that. And her confidence is just so refreshing. Also Ally Brown really impressed me. Weird that she has bounced around the last 4 years. Reads the ball so well, decent mark and skills.

McNamara my new favourite player. Great skills and @Chookis spot on with the Langdon comparisons. She seems up and about with the girls tho - like a spark plug. I hope they can keep that midfield group together for a few years - they are all in the 21-24 age group. Great to see Harris playing like that too - so unselfish and she got a bit of reward. But that was great fun! Go Demons.

The NBA are getting around this constant issue of unavailable players through what we would consider ‘3 game contracts’. That would be the more cost effective way of supplementing as needed. expand lists from the season for all clubs would mean base wages per annum of >$100k for each player. Some clubs will escape too much disruption during the season and some will be decimated. If I was the FD, I would identify 8-10 Casey players that could fill in roles and begin to bring them across those roles.
