He's probably referring to his split from Nadia. Aside from that, you would imagine he'd be a great get for the club. Three time premier with a brownlow under his belt do not grow on trees.

Best non playing acquisition in the modern day history of the MFC.

Any link between Trac staying and Oliver going? Damien Barrett sure thinks so on Trade Radio.
-
Yeah maybe. Owies coming in to replace Kozzie isn't exactly a mood improver.

Welcome to Demonland: Tom Campbell
Bring-Back-Powell replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Per Cal Twomey on Trade radio. Welcome to the "4 club" Club Tom. -
Josh Gabelich who's across everything confirmed that we've met with Owies. But so have a number of clubs including Brisbane. Is understood to be poor defensively which is why Carlton aren't in a hurry to re-sign him.

Maybe Geelong give us a future first rounder as the showcase pick but we pay a portion of his salary. Geelong flat out refuse to pay overs for players in terms of wage and draft pick unless their Jeremy Cameron. Therefore I can't fathom how we won't be on the hook for some of Clarry's salary. If this happens, it signals to me that we're no longer in the window and/or they simply need to rid themselves of the player

Cal Twomey confirmed that it was Houston that rejected us rather than us rejecting him on the theory that our first round draft pick became far better than expected. Said he was all but a Demon mid season, and had agreed to sign with the MFC until we imploded. Well done Dees 👍

Rory Sloane to the Dees as Assistant Coach?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to petzy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep. It takes a special recruiting team to pick up all of Scully, Trengove, Gysberts and Tapscott before Fyfe. Luckily they did select Gawn in the 30's which totally redeemed the above, and probably represent the best value pick of all time behind Hird and Chris Grant. -
Robbo parts company with AFL360

Probably untrue and an urban myth but it was reported somewhere that Robbo used to watch and then write his match reports in the bowels of a Fitzroy pub. -
Rory Sloane to the Dees as Assistant Coach?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to petzy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remember that too. Apparently our recruiting team went over to Mr and Mrs Sloane's house and promised them that we'd pick him up at pick 17 or 19 depending on how the draft board was looking. Sam Blease, James Strauss, Jamie Bennell and 27 picks later and Sloane was drafted interstate. I don't know how true that is, but we did not do football good in the late 2000's. -
Kane Cornes putting his hat in the ring suggesting that a high draft pick must be involved. And that high draft pick must come from us. Geelong receive - Oliver and a draft pick. Melbourne receive - nothing.

Robbo parts company with AFL360

Hopefully Jordan Lewis isn’t his successor. -
Fair call. All sets of non Sydney supporters have bagged out Sydney since Saturday arvo. But in reality there's a lot of backyards that need to be looked at including out own. Sydney have the talent and skillset to easily get back to prelim final weekend and beyond. However they continually fail at the last step and that's Longmire's responsibility to work out why.

I thought McQualter was in charge of an average MFC midfield, and I can't imagine West Coast placed much stock on his 12 months at the club. Must have been all the ground work he put in during his assistant coaching days at Richmond as well as a 7-5 record as interim coach which is nothing to sneeze at. Having said that, McQualter didn't have the luxury that Yze had with respect to our midfield: Missed Trac for 10 games, a pre-season less Oliver and copped a regression year from Viney. By the second half of the season we were in experiment mode with Rivers (reasonable success) and McVee (unsuccessful). Good luck to him and hope we can get a capable replacement.

I reckon he stays at Port. Clubs in the position of Port should dig in more for gun players that are well under contract. I don't think clubs will satisfy their demands. Port have every right to ask for a big price for a reigning 2X All Australian who literally won a game off his own boot from 55 metres out at the MCG one night.

How typically Melbourne Brodie Grundy
Bring-Back-Powell replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Certainly played some good games for Sydney, but it felt as though his win over Gawn in opening round may have inflated his season somewhat. A player on his salary and stature should've comprehensively beaten a player of Fort's level. -
Didn’t realise Fagan was with our organisation for as long as he was. 1998 - 2007.

Sydney by 28 McCluggage first goal (paying $41) Some random no name like Melican to win the Norm Smith. Daniher to kick the last goal of the game after going 0.4.

He sounds like an articulate fella whenever interviewed so I’m sure he’ll be alright.

For those who underrate our 2021 premiership…

And for it to be at the G, or at the very least not during lockdown. -
And the good news is we’ve got Adelaide away in the next couple of weeks.

Helped us in 2023 by providing a useful wing option. Actually averaged 3 more touches a game than Langdon. His game against Carlton in the semi was underrated IMO. But yeah, clearly went on one year too many, and never got started after that calf issue. Probably won't go down as a Demon great.

If our window is closed for next year with or without the hypothetical inclusion of Houston, then I'd also be keeping pick 5 rather than Houston. The more I saw of us this year, the less confident I am of a sharp rebound to the top 4. But to answer the question in a vacuum of trading pick 5 for Houston or giving 5 years to Peatling, it would be Houston by so far it isn't funny.
