  1. Go and list all 22 games and then I'll back you.
  2. Caroline Wilson reckons we're getting one friday night home game and less Sunday games. Where did you get that info from?
  3. Yep lol! We played some damn good footy in 2005 before the collapse. Arr...memories of being a half decent side
  4. For the record, we most likely are playing Port at AAMI in round 3.
  5. Maybe the club wants to get rich quick.
  6. Bartram's skills are not up to standard. Great endeauvour though. Newton - I'm stunned the club gave him a further 2 years. A kick in the guts to players with great application that get delisted. Apart from being a highlights package, does he actually offer anything? I agree with you that our skills and decision making were the story of 2008. If things don't improve in that department, then serious questions must be asked of the senior coach.
  7. I think a lot depends on our injury list. Our most important players IMO are : McLean - midfield grunt, class, leadership, possession accumulator. Davey - Can inspire the side with 1 inspirational play (ie - Freo comeback), oodles of class, goal sneak, rare pace. Rivers - Important defender. Will dramatically strengthen an already promosing defence of Garland, Warnock and Martin. Robertson - Leading goal kicker. Have to score to win games. Enough said. Moloney - On song, he can be a damaging component of our midfield machine. Once he finally became fit in rounds 6-10, we saw the strengths he can bring to the side. A 3rd in the B&F in 2005 underlines his ability. All the above players missed far too many games for us to be competetive this year, and all were absent in our disgusting and shameful efforts versus Geelong, Port and and Richmond at the end of the season. As for the kids, I think we're looking ok. Morton - Could be an MFC great. Grimes- Reputation is sound Maric - Is a good user of the footy, something we have a shortage of. Petterd - First 4 games were as good as anyones. Garland - Could be something special. Even Essendon fans were prepared to trade their 1st rounder for him Buckley - Pace is his biggest asset. Hopefully he improves further in 2009. Aussie - Will always be good for his 1 to 2 goals plus provide defensive pressure in the forward line. Martin - Showed a bit late in the season. Does have a very good build for todays game. I don't rate Frawley and consider him another CAC first round blunder So much depends on our first 3 selections at the draft this year. 3 guns may very well fast-track our finals prospects from 2012-2014 years to 2010-2011. In conclusion, we have a bottom 4 list in the AFL. We have a major deficiency in the 24-28 year old braket IMO. We can't afford to have more than 3 injuries at the one time. We have a poor ruck department. Without a fit Robbo, we lack a consistent and reliable goal kicker. We lack depth - this was always going to be a problem when we sacked/retired Pickett, Brown, Ward, Godfrey, Bizzell, Read and now White and Yze. However I can see a silver lining with our 19-21 year olds.
  8. Yeah it was a top mark, pity our performance was horrible. We really play poor against North.
  9. Surprised nobody has mentioned the round 20 win over West Coast this year The most memorable 3 week patch was back in 2005: Round 20 - I was one of the rare MFC fans to make the trip down to Skilled Stadium to see this memorable 1 point win over the Cats. We were given no chance, considering that we were on a 7 game losing streak. After being 6 goals down in the 2nd qtr, I was ready to leave. However we made a charge back as the likes of Motlop, Rigoni and Armstrong (rememeber these blokes) were instrumental in our 3rd qtr comeback. But Sir Robbo was responsible for this win with his awesome 7 goals!! Finals were now a slight possibility. Round 21 - Dogs on a Saturday night. I wasn't confident here as the Bulldogs were coming off a hot 4 week patch playing attacking and dangerous footy. The first 3 quarters were high quality footy from both sides, however the Dogs held the lead for most of the night and were arguably the better side. At the 15 min mark of the last qtr we were gone as we were down by about 27 points. However up stepped Holland and Yze as they both slotted a couple of goals each to get us within 3 points, and I was thinking "Could we?". Sure enough White won a free kick, and slotted the winner with a lovely set shot. I'll never forget Daniher's reaction after the game. Now all we needed to do was beat the 13th placed Bombers to make the finals. Round 22 - Spring had come early on this warm day. I was nervous, as even though Essendon were average, I was worried that we were too mentally drained after the previous 2 weeks. We won the game by about 10 points, however it took one of the most bizzare goals you'd ever see by Robbo to seal it. I couldn't take any more heart-stoppers. As it turned out we we're too physically and mentally drained to play a final series, and got spanked by the Cats accordingly in week 1.
  10. So we finish last, but the silver lining was that we'd have first crack at any good un-contracted players in the PSD. Instead we're forced to pick up the 87th best 18 year old in the land (herald sun suggests we are only interested in 18 year olds in the PSD) . We really are going great-guns at the moment
  11. The only way we could afford O'Keefe would be to delist all of Dunn, Bell and Chris Johnson I would think.
  12. You know that won't happen YM. The club couldn't attract a Division 4 player from the Eastern Footy League in our current state.
  13. Winning 5 or 6 games next year would be the worst thing that has happened to the MFC this decade. Either we push for the finals and win every second week, or win 4 games. We MUST take advantage of the last uncompromised draft as we need to recruit talent more than any other side. The list overhaul is no-where near complete.
  14. Agree. There was only 8 games this year that we where within 5 goals at half time. I actually can't remember a side so uncompetetive since Fitzroy.
  15. Houlihan is actually not a crap player. He's not a hard player, but he's not crap.
  16. Nathan Lonie can be a very handy player. The operative word being can. Was the butt of all jokes on the Port forum on bigfooty which would suggest that he goes missing too often and is too soft.
  17. On a serious note, Damon White is probably the most viable player in the rubbish can. Has ability and is a capable forward or defender.
  18. I love it how everyone's so quick to bag a suggestion like this one but forget to realise how crap our list is. We're a rubbish footy club, so I think it's a bit rich for everyone to start bagging players from other clubs.
  19. No, but I expect it within 2 weeks. Hopefully the Fri night game will be earlier in the season and be against a Carlton, Hawthorn or Essendon to maximise gate receipts. Knowing the AFL, they'll schedule Melbourne V's Fremantle in round 20 on a Friday night
  20. I never said I was still angry that TJ left. Infact we will benefit long term if Grimes becomes a player. And yes I do agree with you that TJ had a mixed year. He dropped off in the second half of the year and also raised the ire of Lions fans. However, he was instrumental in 5 or 6 of their wins. Did you watch their win over Port when they came back from 7 goals down in the wet and TJ had a blinder of a final term. Or his 32 possession 3 goal game V's Carlton. Or the 3 brownlow votes he recieved V's Fremantle? He would be very handy at MFC still. My point was that I think it's fantastic that we have a player in Sylvia who has a combination of skill and class. Lets be excited that he finally had a consistent injury free year and will hopefully take his career to a new dimension in 2009. I may live a million miles from the MCG, but I still watched replays of our last 5 games, and I can tell you this club is crying out for some skill and class - which is exactly what Sylvia provides. Or would you rather 22 Clint Bartram's running around the field?
  21. Surely that means Wona will be elevated off the rookie list. Can't have the face of the membership kicking goals for Casey Scorpions.
  22. He'll become the best player ever.
  23. http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/lion...3750133880.html Caroline Wilson has revealed the following from the fixture next year which is not confirmed yet: - MFC to get one Friday night home game - Significantly less Sunday games which will please the masses. - Playing Richmond on the Gold Coast as an away game I'm alse led to believe we play Port Adelaide at AAMI on Easter Sunday in about round 3 next year, and will also play them at the G later in the year. Post further leaks if you hear any!
