The way the club is going at the moment, I have my doubts that Hislop and the MFC would be able to come to an arrangement - given that every man and his dog has thumbed his nose at the MFC. If the club truly wants him, then we may have to fork out pick 35 for him in the National Draft. I'm now almost 100% certain we won't be picking up players from other clubs in either draft.

B: Whelan Warncock Garland HB: Wheatley Rivers Buckley C: Morton McLean Green HF: Davey Miller Bate F: Aussie *Robbo Sylvia FOLL: Jamar Bruce Jones INT: *Dunn Moloney PJ McDonald EMER: Petterd Martin Bell NOTES: - Dunn is in the 22 by virtue of the fact that we need a 'run with' player and Bartram is not AFL standard IMO. - Newton to start at full foward in round 1 with the absence of Robbo. - Haven't got Martin in the 22 as I haven't seen him live - Expect the kids such as Grimes,Maric, and 1 or 2 kids from this years draft to play at least 11 games.

After viewing a 'youtube' clip of Chris Johnson from a deluded Carlton supporter, I've changed my view of CJ leaving. The highlights (of his 2 career best games V Brisbane and WB this year) are laced with clangers and turnover. He has a very poor habit of turning the ball over with 15 metre chips. I'm surprised the video didn't contain that complete 'muff up' against North in round 4 when instead of having a ping for goal on the run from 50, he made a beautiful 20 meter pass straight to a stunned North defender. If Carlton are basing their defense around this guy, then perhaps their future isn't that bright after all. I'm willing to bet large sums of money that he plays more than 50% of games in the VFL next year. CJ doesn't warrant a 2 year contract.

Jack Watts - don't expect too much too soon

Since we missed out on Warnock, you may be onto something. -
Yeah but the problem with Jonno Brown is that we would've had to trade about 2 first round draft picks for him. We wouldn't have to give anything for Cuz.

Players permitted to train with AFL clubs
Bring-Back-Powell replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm leaning towards drafting Greg Bentley with pick 67 in the National draft - if still available. I've seen him play a few times and I believe he'll be a competent AFL player. Certainly wasn't the worst player on Port's list and was a tad unlucky to be delisted. We'll use our first 4 or 5 picks on a kid, so I believe we can afford to take a risk on a mature 21 year old who's had plenty of development under Mark Williams/Dean Bailey at Port Adelaide. He fits the age criteria, and we need someone who can instantly impact on our best 22 - as it's looking pretty barren at the moment. -
How did the MFC get such a dream draw in 2005?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
That is true Rhino from a footy point of view, but it's hard to believe the AFL were generous enough to give us 3 Friday night and 4 saturday night games. Great for the gate takings I would've thought. -

Bring-Back-Powell replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not really a question I was posing, more of a statement of how things have changed dramatically over 4 years. In 2005 we didn't have one Sunday home game, hosted 7 night games and were on free to air nearly every week. Hopefully, when we eventually improve, we'll be rewarded with a much more marketable home schedule. -
2005 MFC Home Games: Friday Nights: 3 (V Geel, Adel, Rich) Saturday: 3 ( V Freo, WCE, St.K) Saturday Nights: 4 (Ess, Bris, Syd, WB) Sunday: 0 Monday: 1 (Coll) Free to air: 17 games Foxtel: 5 game 2009 Home games: Friday nights: 0 Saturday: 2 Saturday Night: 0 Sunday: 8 Monday: 1

So over negativity
-
Totally hypothetical but what would happen if the MFC re-drafted him in the PSD and matched Carlton's offer?
-
Just our luck when we finish bottom. Pity we weren't down the bottom when Nick Stevens and Jade Rawlings were the talk of the PSD about 5 years ago.
-
Not sure Freak, but I'd imagine they'll pass on their last selection, to ensure they have pick 1 in the PSD.
-
Disagree. Take him at pick 51 in the ND if the MFC are confident Hislop has a future. We already have picks 1, 17, 19 and 35 for the 18 year olds.
-
Surely if they were to play home and away games there (which I doubt they will) wouldn't they need to improve the public transport accesibility. Isn't the train station a 45min walk from down town Cranbourne?? And there is only 1 exit from the carpark. I'd say NAB Cup games will be as far as they go IMO.

Words of wisdom from Sir Brock. MELBOURNE MIDFIELDER BROCK MCLEAN HASN'T DONE IT AGAIN
-
And why was McLean on Brent Harvey...strange matchup.
-
Go for it obviously. But you and I know that won't happen. If we're 4-7 after round 11, then I say go for 8 or 9 wins. And as you said, if we're 4 wins after round 16, then it's time to put players into surgery. Surely the 4.5 win limit must be at the back of the minds of the MFC brainstrust. Picks 1 and 2 next year would be amazing for this footy club.
-
My guess would be the senior coach??
-
I know it hurts doesn't it! But the Dees where never going to lose that game with MFC greats such as Brown, Bizzell and Pickett retiring in the same game. Plus Carltank had more to lose by winning. Looking to 2009, the club would be irresponsible to win 5-7 games next year. Assuming West Coast have a better season, we could very well get picks 1, 2 and 18 next year. So in summary this what our early draft picks could like from 2007-2009: Morton, Grimes, Maric, ______ Watts Pick 17 Pick 19 ______ Pick 1 (best young midfielder) Pick 2 (best young KPP) Pick 18 Hopefully 9 quality players that will turn this club around from 2011 onwards.

I'm looking at Cousins as more of a PR idea. The MFC would (finally) be the talk of the town from a footy perspective rather than a financial perspective. Could you imagine the hype surrounding his debut for Melbourne. A new exciting chapter would begin with the best 18 year old in the land and a superstar making his comeback. Membership would increase by 5,000!! With regards to money, I was under the impression that it wouldn't be a factor. Isn't Cousins making a return to footy to overcome his addiction rather than suck a club dry of money. On the subject of Jones, I'd like to see him play part time in the forward line, to add a another string to his bow. The kid knows where the goals are.
-
Me! Apart from the result, was a really enjoyable day at the footy. Is it true that the MFC requested a NAB Cup game there next year? In any case I'm sure we'll get another practice match there in March next year.
-
I 300% agree with you champ! I'll take 2 exciting Ben Cousins years that brings the fans through the gate, over a speculative Isaac Weetra/Heath Neville like pick. Imagine the membership drive with Jack Watts and Ben Cousins as your poster boys. People are too conservative around here. We have plenty of draft picks for the kids already. Cousins is desperate to play footy again (to overcome addiction) so the MFC would not be an issue here. Pick 51 for Ben Cousins thanks! **Dream on BBP**

Looked very impressive, but we have to remember that was an U16's clip. Would be happy with him at #17 or #19.

2008 Player Review - #25 Kyle Cheney
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sounds like the complete opposite of Christine Johnson! Was a speculative draft pick, so we won't slit our wrists if he never comes good. But would cap off a sensational draft ,if he becomes a player.
