If Kozzy goes it will probably be be the stock standard "cookie cutter" mid range first round pick and a future first or second rounder for Kozzie and a later pick. More or less what we gave up for Lever and what we received for Jackson. Clubs that acquire talent like a Kozzie Pickett are in the business of making their list better, not having to give back a star player like a Serong, Young or Butters in return. Unfortunately, we would have no bargaining power as Kozzie will be out of contract and he will clearly have a club of choice that he'll nominate and eventually get to. This is the modern day AFL trade landscape. With that being said, I clearly hope he stays, but I'm not going to let the constant speculation consume and ruin my enjoyment of the season. Good post, and I can't get my head around the fact that we go from tonking the Lions on their turf by 10 goals, only to cough up a shocker against the same team (albeit slightly depleted) 2 games later at the home of footy. I'm glad someone here hasn't gone for the "banged up excuse" as to why we lost both our finals, although I do concede Gawn could barely get out of a jog in the Brisbane final. Ironically Trac was in our top 3 players on the night even though he had a publicised injury. I found our discipline to be chalk and cheese if you compare the 2021 with 2022 finals. It actually started in the very first pre season game V's Carlton where we gave up a ton of 50 mtr penalties when we didn't get the hint that the umps were cracking down on discipline and reared it's head in the Brisbane final as you pointed out above. Lastly in response to your post, Kozzie had a really poor finals series IMO. 4 possesions in the Sydney final and then the free kicks and penalties he gave away in the Brisbane final.

Or as an alternative they may keep the 4pm start but strip it back to 4x 20 minutes quarters with no time on. Playing 6 periods of footy in potentially the high 30's would have to be pushing the boundaries of OH&S for the players and umpires.

Chandler always seems to rip up the MFC practice matches we play out at Casey (3 goals in the 2021 game V Tigers) so if he can translate that form to the home and away season, then he could be a valuable member of the side. Richo’s poured cold water over a JVR round 1 debut multiple times over summer so it’s highly likely he’ll start the season at Casey. They can’t and won’t play all of BBB, T Mac, Gawn, Grundy and JVR - at the risk of conceding a record amount of defensive rebounds from the opposition’s defence.

It’s scheduled to be 35 at first bounce at this stage. Too hot IMO. Maybe they could look at pushing the game back to 7pm given the venue has adequate lighting (or at least I think they do??)

Yeah, sounds like these week 1 praccy game will be on Kayo but not Foxtel. The Foxtel tv guide has already scheduled live games for week 2 (ie - Melb V Rich) but nothing for next weekend. Same formula as last pre season. Kayo graphics and their own commentators for the first week of praccy games.

Do you have inside word that it's on Fox/KAYO? At the moment they've programmed GWS V WC from last year on from 4-6pm on the 24th of Feb, and the media have previously announced that only the second round of practice matches (March 2-4) will be televised. I'm thinking or hoping it will be a live stream from the club if it's not on Fox.

Top 6 and one finals win should be their pass mark both internally and externally. Given the talent they've draft and traded in over the last few years, it's time they grew up and played finals.

Given Howes was an emergency as early as round 4 last year, he may be the first to debut, even before JVR (if they opt for only T Mac and BBB in the early rounds).

Outside of JVR and Jefferson, surely Laurie has the biggest upside out of the lot considering he's a first round draft pick in his third year in the system (albeit 2021 was injury riddled). He should be aiming for at least 5 games this year.
