Farewell Clayton Oliver
I just had to look it up. North got pick 2 and 18 for Carey. But why I bring it up Ablett snr moved to Myrtleford between leaving Hawthorn and going to Geelong. Myrtleford seems to be a good place for us. I would take another Guy Rigoni any day and another Ablett Snr would wipe my Clarrie thoughts off the map. Hope our traing camp at Myrtleford has gone well

Why? Carey and Ablett snr were two of the greatest players ever but Clarrie won the coaches award for best player in the league two years running and was leading for a third until he got injured and hasn’t been the same since. The comparison wasn’t just about being the best player in the league I was factoring in the troubled off field behaviour, whilst doing it

Even though I want the best for Clarrie it will break my heart if he becomes the third, unless he requests a trade back to us and gets his last one at Melbourne. To be honest I think he will ask to come back

Loved them all. I take your point as well. I’d even put Brad Green on that list. Flower, Neitz and Stynes (Green) were much better clubmen. So I appreciate what you have written. Clarrie was a bit more in the Ablett snr or Wayne Carey style. The best player in the competition but didn’t always do the right thing by himself or the club.

I grew up with Alan Johnsons number on my back but was young then. Tulip was my favourite player but like Nathan Jones he stood out when we were a terrible side. What he did was magic and idolised him as a kid. Clarrie won a b&f in a premiership year. There is no comparison.

The same 16 other cubs that could have drafted Max Gawn but over looked him in the draft? Half the clubs are hopeless at recruiting and besides Richmond and Geelong no team seems to be great at taking mature age players. We were when we took Lever, May and Landon but we seem to have dropped off a cliff since then

He couldn’t walk on water even baby Jesus, who Ablett jnr was called by his mates at Gold Coast couldn’t but I’m pretty sure is was Moses in the bible who parted the sea. It’s not hyperbole to say somebody is the best player you have ever seen play for your club. Gawn and Robbie Flower are up there and better clubmen but Clarrie is the best I have seen

Yeah when you lose the best player you have seen in your lifetime and won us a premiership it cuts deeply.

Welcome to Demonland: Latrelle Sumner-Pickett
A bit like female jockeys in horse racing. They have to do it much harder to get to the top but when they do they have worked harder and had to jump over more hurdles to get there. Look at Jamie Kah (now Melhman) she won the Caulfield cup and Melbourne cup double. If a male jockey was showing that promise they would be gifted rides on the best horses. Now she is like Kozzie or Waganeen-Milera they have to work harder but when they rise to the top it is a thing of beauty

Oliver was not a plodder. He had explosive speed out of packs. Goodwin had role players and Oliver’s role was not to get back behind the football. You can pull your hair out all you want, I hope you don’t go bald with King’s knew game plan because there will still be players that wont run both ways by instruction. I’ll guess Harvey Langford but I have been wrong once before.

His two way running was never an issue under Goodwins game plan when we had ANB and Gus covering ground so our best midfielder could run where he wanted. In the 3rd quarter of our premiership Clarrie shut down Bont then kicked the sealer running off him. That is the epitome of 2 way running at it’s greatest.

Welcome to Demonland: Riley Onley
Gus is irreplaceable, regardless of how good anybody becomes they will never have the same leadership qualities or a family that invites the new players over for dinner. He was more than a gun footballer, he was a culture king and we will never see someone like that again.

Farewell Clayton Oliver
He didn’t let us down repeatedly in the last 2 seasons. Two back he had a broken hand and wrist but kept playing to help us. When you have lightning hands that doesn’t help your output. Last season he was playing with brand Petracca and they had lost their chemistry around the stoppages. I would have given him another year to see what he could do under King. It wouldn’t surprise me if he asks for a trade back when he hits form again

Top 50 Under 23
Maybe Jagga Smith made the list because if he didn’t get injured there is no way we would have got an extra pick form AMW going down on the eve of the season. I would take Darrcy over Daicos everyday day and twice on Sundays. If you ever want to lay someone on betfair Daicos is the one. He runs all day and is as a good as a kick you will see but is softer than any player I have ever seen for being that elite. He can start Brownlow favourite every year and keep on missing. But he will. He has one dubious contested mark in his career and I haven’t checked his hard ball gets but they would be close to zero. Lucky Mihicheck has Kozzie kicking to him this year. He won’t squirm a contest and will deliver just as well

PRESEASON TRAINING 2025: Bright and Myrtleford
I’m pretty sure Guy Rigoni was at the Myrteful pub on mad Monday after his season was over and wouldn’t answer his phone so Melbourne called his old man who drove to the pub, picked him up and drove him to play for Sandringham days later where he was best on ground despite his poor preparation. The rest is history he was a gun we could do with him now.

Ridiculous post. Clarrie was a champion of the club he played more than just last season. You don’t win the coaches award twice and a b&f in a premiership year unless you are a champion. The chemistry between Carrie and Petracca had obviously run out last season and even though they were both fit it took a massive toll on us They are both greats of the club but when you listen to a number of Gawn’s interviews it’s clear he is in Clarries corner. I’ll back Gawn over any player manager and I know a few. Ricky Nixon doesn’t speak kindly of some of top 10 players he managed and he pretty much commercialised player management in the AFL. Clarrie won us the only premiership any of us born after 1964 have seen. Champion is probably under rating him.

Blake Howes 2026
Who will be the first poster on Demonland to criticise a position change? I bet you it will be someone who bagged Goody constantly for playing Petty forward or JVR in the ruck. Luckily we have two Pickett’s now so nobody will bag Kozzie in the midfield when his cousin is playing his role in the forward line. Watch this space there are too many presidents around. Bailey Laurie or Sparrow are my guess to be the next whipping boys and played out of position

Put him in the midfield. That will put a new meaning to big bodied midfielders

Hassa Mann
Don’t forget to mentioned he turned up hungover on his first day at the club and also got caught smoking on his way to Casey The same administration that sacked Norm Smith

Worst Ever Draft Decision (& Best)
It is really hard to say given our draft history before JT. I love every player who plays for the red and blue so I find this thread difficult. Lucas Cook, Jimmy Toumpus, Gysberts and Cale Morton were all soft and we wouldn’t take any of them now. Luke Molan was tough as nails but set back by injuries. They all went early but were probably the wrong picks. Hindsight is easy.

Welcome to Demonland: Xavier Taylor
I doubt it. He has been fantastic for us,we wouldn’t have won the premiership without him but he is slow, unacootable and a very poor user of the football. He can hit a target but it’s never damaging. His intercept marks are brilliant but he has been found out and doesn’t get that opportunity much anymore with the work other teams have done on him.
