  1. Agree, but as it stands we are never going to play finals. Oliver/Petracca and Brayshaw can kick it, they've lost their ability to. Agree they've been really really poor. Technique IMO. Can be fixed. Hope to see Jordan soon, perfect time this week!
  2. I'd like to see players like Tomlinson/Dunkley/Sparrow/Harmes play as the inside mids along with Viney. I haven't seen much of Jordan so i've only left him out as i don't know his strengths. This could free up Petracca/Oliver/Brayshaw to become elite outside midfielders that can float in and out of contests depending on the game. Bennell also but 2021. Salem needs a new role. In 2018 Oliver kicked 12 goals and Brayshaw kicked 14. The dependence on these players to get the inside pill doesn't allow them to free up and cause damage. Personally i don't want my elite mids tackling that much either. Hence why AVB is so important.
  3. Our midfield is our structure. Midfield is generally 8 players. 4 in the middle, 2 wings the high HFF and the attacking HBF. Gawn/Oliver/Petracca/Viney/Langdon are the main 5, Salem/Brayshaw/Harmes/AVB/Jones/Melksham/Bennell etc are the players that come in and out of that system when either playing a role or rotations. It all revolves around Gawn winning the Ruck. Vs Brisbane 2nd Qtr and Vs Port The opposition sharked the ball or waited for us to take the ball and dispossess and spread from there. We have no plan to counter this, or they can't execute. This I believe has a knock on effect on the structure of the other 4 mids. They are all at sea. Our defenders are then caught in a decision making process to defend space or the man. Also if other mids are too slow to react or too slow anyway they are out of position for turnovers either for or against. May/Salem being left footers hugging that boundary is so easily defended against.
  4. Plan A is to win the contested footy. Plan B,C,D or whatever is to tinker with certain things still revolving around Plan A. There is no plan if we lose contested footy, it's all guess work. Strategy for when they know Gawn will be overly dominant is needed. Too easy for oppo to plan for.
  5. Trading players in and out is absolutely irrelevant until we get a new coach and/or a new way to play to maximise the playing list and their potential.
  6. Fundamentals a disgrace. ? Disposal - Flatfooted, also passing it to someone who is flat footed. Kicking - Across the body, poor technique, lazy. Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm sure it's called football? Fundamental #1. If i was this bad at my job i'd be sacked. What's a word worse than abysmal? Tackling - Poor technique, attack the rib cage pin the arms. Too many broken. Go and watch Storm practice. Positioning - Mids forwards forever out of position. Then call for the ball in a worse position. Movement - As above flat footed. Is there no property steward to check if there's concrete stuck to the bottom of there boots? Opposition circling packs like sharks and we stand there often with back to goal and wonder why we get caught over and over. Football smarts - Is there any? Was there any? Has it been trained/learning'd out of them. Awareness - Zero, on most fronts. Selection - 3 talls? Playing out of form players. They still have no idea what our best 22 looks like. Which means they don't really have a proper system to play? Leadership - I question this on field. Gawn/Viney yes they bust their guts but are they leaders? Can they see patterns/trends mid game and fix/foresee problems, coach on field. Coaching - Far far too easy to coach against. "Operation kick it to Max" has been found out... This is a whole other topic.. Wet footy - Train all this week with the sprinklers on. Some lads need to swap the Nivea for resin. Hunger - That was a must win game. It speaks volumes. ??????
  7. I'm just wondering how much AVB added to our structure at stoppages and rebound. His tackling/pressure aids our mids to have the confidence to stay on the outside, so could Sparrow fill that role and move Jones to the HFF in the Bennell position. Happy to manage Bennell this week. Tomlinson could also fill that role. TMac to play CHF. If Jackson plays he is the 2nd ruck, let Weid and TMac concentrate on competing and being in the right position. Jackson could also play midfield or high HFF. Pickett has me up and down every week, he may need a spell and bring in ANB or Hunt. I'm not sure where Bedford is and haven't heard his name for a bit. As for Brayshaw it's hard to tell if he's playing a role or just out of form. But if he and Harmes are playing similar roles each may be hampering the other. If Jetta is fit i think he'll play as they have plenty of small/medium forwards otherwise Harmes may head back and Jetta misses and Brayshaw stays in. I like these dilemmas on selection, means we have some type of depth In: TMac, ANB, Sparrow Out: Bennell, Pickett, Brayshaw/Jetta
  8. We need to counter when a team decides to ruck from Maxy and not their own ruckman. Happened against Carlton and several times during Cats/Tigers games. This should come from on field leaders Gawn/Viney as well as from the coaches box. It seems to affect our structure and spread and it takes a quarter or 2 to sort it out. I'd also like our boys to take a few extra steps back when kicking from a mark/free. How many were touched or smothered??
  9. It's always hard when you lose by a kick. But we didn't deserve to win that. We got smashed in the 2nd quarter and should've been down by more. Brisbane are a good side. When you're chasing you need everything to go right and blame everything and everyone when you fall short. Plenty of must improves but i'll try and keep it half full. Positives? Midfield fought really hard, refused to lie down. Weideman clunked some early and always competed Jackson has huge upside Viney showing his true colours Melksham is still a massive threat with ball in hand Half the team were average and we still only lost by a kick Bennell/Pickett/Jackson/Weideman/Hannan have played less than 40 games since 2018 and only 2 as a collective. Give them a bit more time.
  10. I was very surprised to hear the negativity towards Oliver's defensive mindset. Has been in top 10 tacklers most years, not just cheap tackles at stoppages either. Last year he was trying to do both inside and outside. Often leaving him dinking handballs to try and get himself in a better position to receive, get clear and kick it. He has a 'see ball get ball' footy brain. This to his detriment at times. He had a poor game against Richmond, obviously they worked on things. His game on Sunday was fantastic. He played a mature role. Spreading better and took quite a few intercept marks by playing a kick behind. Once his kicking improves and starts hitting the scoreboard, look out!! 2 x B&F 1 x AA and he turned 23 today ?
  11. Love the optimism. How many of the 22 from Sunday would get a game in 94 or 00? 4 at best. Team was full of footballers back then. If by the end of the year the gap between our best and worst reduces I could start to buy in
  12. Why would you want any changes?
  13. Excellent win, thoroughly enjoyable. Plaudits clearly to CP5, Max, Oliver, Jack. All superlatives already explained by all. Langdon, Weid, Bennell, Omac, May, Lever, Jackson, Hibbo, Harmes, Salem, Hannan all played their roles well. Fritsch, Pickett still heaps of upside. Making Weid, Bennell, Jackson, OMac earn their spots has proved a good decision. Even though Hawthorn were poor, we continued to play positive football throughout the game. We still made mistakes but kept the confidence to keep playing the same way. We looked like a team. Bring on the Lions
  14. Coaching staff had to adapt last week with Tmac going down. Kudos. They have been stubborn so far this year. I'm hoping they can feel confident enough to win this with the 22 selected. I'm happy with the selection of Jackson now i think about it. I'm not sure the Carlton game was a realistic litmus test. Marvel is a tricky first test for a player, no crowd with the roof closed. It can be difficult to read the ball the first few times you play there. Also the 2nd half was putrid by all. My take is that Jackson will play deep, Weideman will be the leading target. Jackson's height will worry them if he gets a run and jump around the goal square (Not a license to bomb). Both Weid and Jacko can ruck. Either of them will ruck forward of 75m leaving Maxy a kick behind. The fact that Weid and Jacko can Ruck around the ground also gives the coaches a choice of resting Maxy in the forward line, in the hole in defence or time on the bench. Gives us flexibility and Fritta a license to roam. We should be fitter and smash them around the contest, if we can spread and kick the ball better again this week we win. Bennell, AVB, Hannan, Omac will be fitter and more confident after a few runs now. We turn it over like v Tigers/Cats we lose anyway so selections for mine are the right ones.
  15. My thoughts are McEvoy won't have the tank to run with Maxy this week. Can't imagine he's done similar kms. Big positive in my eyes.
  16. Excellent question. I agree. I also consider myself an entry level idiot not a complete one. With 6 forwards if there is such a thing anymore you'd expect 1 of those players roles is to read the football of the boot. Then either make a contest or be there for the crumbs. Often the ball is in the air for an eternity and yet they mark it on the chest. Baffling. I'm assuming oppo defenders block our forwards or our blokes have already led and are in a different postcode.
  17. I'm not expecting anything from Kozzi personally, he is a talent and I only meant 50/50 for this week. I'm 100% on him for the future. His opponents have been running him out of position. No Casey is not helpful. Pick best 22 on form and for the opposition. I don't have a good replacement for him therefore i'm 50/50. Do i want him to kick 5.0 and take a hanger on Frawley's head. Hell yes. I expect he's 1 game away from a breakout so hopefully it's very soon!
  18. I'm 50/50 on Kozzi. He provides something that no one else has but his output is minimal even though he's trying. ANB will add pressure but his disposal worries me. Spargo not up to it anymore, Bedford only just getting to main group? Tough choices. Hunt can't play that role IMO. Harley has his spot.
  19. OUT: Lockhart, Tmac IN: Jones, Tomlinson
  20. One of the positive things I noticed was that we had some spread. Against Richmond we had too many players trying to win the ball from a contest leaving us no "out" and transferring the heat so to speak. Even though we had some poor disposal, they were trying to hit targets. I'd rather see us make a mistake this way than the bombing it long. Yes it happened but less so. Confidence will come. Gold Coast's pressure was high, they had their chances to win. This is a good win by us.
  21. Agree with Melksham sentiment but he must play with our so called "Brand" or strategy or He is the only player that can regularly kick goals from 50 on the run, hoping the 2nd tall can bring him more into the game rather than he dominating a game on his own. He will rely on the link up play and getting into dangerous spaces. Not much of this was afforded to him in past weeks. His effort must lift.
  22. Could Craig Jennings advise be heeded? Gawn to play more defensive like late 2018 Weid CHF and to ruck forward of centre TMac FF Would like to see Salem more forward of HB. Wouldn't mind seeing Brayshaw off HB, could play either side.
  23. Great analysis. Interesting that teams make adjustments when playing us, but we do the same thing week in week out. Stubborn or deluded. Maybe both.
  24. Some great insights here from everyone. Mine are, Our list is average. The "Brand" game plan is not executable with the personnel, low IQ's can't make quick correct decisions LOCKHART MAY LEVER BRAYSHAW SMITH HIBBERD HARMES OLIVER LANGDON FRITSCH WEIDEMAN BENNELL BEDFORD TMAC HANNAN GAWN PETRACCA SALEM JONES SPARROW ANB RIVERS IN: WEIDEMAN, SPARROW, BENNELL, JONES, ANB, BEDFORD (i'm not sure all got on plane) OUT: VANDENBERG, VINEY, MELKSHAM, HUNT, TOMLINSON, PICKETT
