  1. Damning if not true. Players want to play finals and experience success. They are no different to supporters in that regard. They are entitled to test their market value and hold the club accountable. We've all played in sporting teams. Questions about selections, tactics, contracts are all discussed privately amongst players. They are as [censored] off as anyone. Must win a final next year.
  2. We have 3 players in the top 10 or so in the league for clangers. And 4 of the top 16 for turnovers. (Langdon). We overrate our midfield. It was a butchering machine this year. Goodwin needs to engineer a more efficient system or personnel somehow. He keeps talking about building a brand for finals which is ironic cause the brand cant cut the mustard over 22 home and away rounds.
  3. Quite enjoying Schultz's game. He cant kick 40 metres and is a clanger machine! Lol.
  4. Jjrogan replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Big yes but fear he may go to Carlton to replace kade simpson. metres gained at a high disposal efficiency. Last few years he himself has had almost as many bounces as our entire team. Make us less predictable.
  5. Excited to recruit him so the forum can all pile shizen on him for a 2 kick, 5 handball, 1 tackle performance. He's a good player but recruitng small/medium forward is a dangerous burn of resources. Opposition teams quickly work out the type of player to stop them these days.
  6. This is an example of why the afl tribunal system is a joke. There has to be an element of intention considered as well as effect. Anb never meant for his tackle to induce a concussion (4 weeks) but mumford clearly summed up the contest and thought [censored] it ill hit the back of his head as hard as i can (fine). A joke of a system.
  7. If goodwin walked the walk about being ruthless, jv would have been 'relegated' to play an exclusive tagging role or high pressure forward role 10 weeks ago to see if that improved our efficiency and forward retention inside 50.
  8. TOTALLY AGREE. these short quarters are bs. tiges, cats, port, meth coke, lions. No way they are the best teams. Rubbish from gil to try and make lemonade from lemons. Burn it all down. Extend the quarters and make it a 34 game season so we can finish 16-18 ffs.
  9. Geelong are incredible. They havent had a top ten draft pick in 15 years (maybe one number 10?) and still effectively sit as premiership favourites. What's in the water down there. Viney has had 6+ years to repair his chinks. Unless he moves to a tagger role or a pressure forward, we are going to see turnovers. If he goes, id prefer a player swap. Our recruitment of players is probably above average. May, hibberd, langdon. Our development program is probably below average.
  10. I agree on the list and the number one requirement. we are actually the number one team in the league for intercepts. But we are also the number one team for turnovers. We have to switch out some hard working, poor decision making, turnover merchants. 3-4 in a team you can hide. We have 6-8 that run out every week.
  11. Yup, cant really see the merit of evaluating draft decisions after 15 games from teenagers. Especially small forwards v midfielders but each to their own. One thing you cant forgive his age for is he has one of the worst free kick differential of any player in the league. 4 v 17. Must learn not to tackle high, push in the back at the end of a chase, enroach on marking space etc etc. Soft momentum killers.
  12. The core of the midfield is still young. A genuine superstar midfielder A kpf who with a bit of confidence and size will kick a bag or two over the next few years. Its a tough comp for a forward but he is good young player. Our strongest defensive year for quite a while. Trying hard to think of any more really.
  13. The irony of building a contested 'brand' of football for finals but not having a skilful, consistent brand built for the home and away season.
  14. backing the demons to win 39+ next week. the odds will be juicy and our performances are a total random walk, its just as likely as anything else. Er, on second thoughts, so is freo 39+. Might hold off.
  15. Ill say no. We are inconsistent. We dont get 40 points up and choke. We are not soft in the contest. We just dont have enough players (or even coaching) that are consistent disposal to disposal, week to week. Ok sure you can say part is mental, but given that our record with this playing group is basically 50-50 we are just not world beaters. This is our brand. Ah well.
  16. To follow from its the bizarre and random decision making also. A moment in the 2 nd qtr when the game is still up for grabs... Oliver links up from half back, gets a handpass in full stride. Lovely.... But then tries a side ways drop punt to brayshaw sitting in the centre in traffic which doesnt reach him on the full. Turnover. Is the coach instructing him to make the hollywood decision there? Or is the coach responsible for not having the right forward mix to allow Oliver to have faith in kicking a 40 metre forward pass to retain possession. Bit of column a, bit of column b probably.
  17. Can rightly have a go at the coach all we want, but even if it was a 3 on 2 entry into our forward fifty and it was not in mays, brayshaw, melksham or salem's hands i dont trust the player to make the right decision or be able to execute. Our players simply aren't that good. Part of being good is being consistent and after a point it cant be coached to improve. This is our brand.
  18. Fair enough mate. Like you i just want to win now and in the long run. And if this changes his attitude of him and others on and off the field, ill concede it was a good decision.
  19. Like i said. The only way i can understand this is if its a repeated thing. The culture of a workplace falls apart if someone is late to work one day? Really? Is that your position? I never said he shouldn't be punished. I said if its not a team wide thing then the entire playing group should not be punished. Sorry it boggled your mind. Hope you're never late for anything.
  20. Dropping someone late to training is one of the dumbest things ive heard. Culture doesnt come thru discipline like this. You think he meant to turn up late? You really think he's has a habit of this, is a bad egg and needs to send a message to a lazy playing group? Is that whats happening here? If so, perhaps ok i can understand the logic. If you're late to work what happens. Usually sfa, but worst they will hit you where it hurts. Your wallet. Fine him 5k. Thats the correct way to deal with this. Its the players fault and he alone should bear the cost. Now the whole team and club is put in jeopardy. You're telling me if Gawn doesnt turn up to training on time the monday before he's playing in a PF, hes dropped. Im almost hoping this happens to show the false hypocritical bravado of this decision. Obviously the club thinks discipline like this will help with our midfields being able to hit a f****ing target when they are under no pressure because thats the sort of discipline id love to see.
  21. i respectfully disagree. Part of being good is being consistent. Too many of our players are not consistent whether thats year to year, week to week, or even disposal to disposal. Yes those players you mention can reach fabulous heights but by and large its not in a consistent and dependable manner (id say clarry, gawn may exceptions). Coaching obviously is meant to address some of this but at some point yea, you just have to admit maybe this is just the player they will always be. Ie not consistently good.
  22. Thats because he's by far the best decision maker entering 50 and kick (on both feet) to the advantage of the forward its not funny. Also not funny is his total lack of defensive pressure. Needs to stay in the team but get a proverbial rocket for that effort today.
  23. For the past month we've been excellent at containing opp rebound 50s and forcing teams to go down the line where we've had the advantage. Credit where credit is due, Doggies did a great job in the 3rd of getting to the fat side and capitalizing. There wasnt too much between the teams other than that. If after the port loss you said we thumped the cellar dwellars and split the pies and dogs, we all would have taken it. We're not top 4 material. You could say we carry too many passengers but in all honesty the players you bring in will probably just be another set of passengers. Making the finals with a full healthy list is still well alive with a win next week.
  24. Once the clearances evened up that quarter, we comfortably had their measure. Dogs have an elite midfield so have to break even in this second half. In the arcs, Melbourne is clearly superior.
  25. Because like Gawn he's a good ruckman and ruckman occupy 3 of the top 6 in both for and against categories? (5th in frees against.)
