  1. Id actually be a little concerned as to our playing and coaching group mentality and preparation. There is no reason why the hawks should even be getting close if we are a premiership contender. Youd want to see some sort of momentum, consistency and confidence in the playing group in august september. No season is perfect but a loss here would be next level shizen

The last four premiership winners of the last eight years all lost this round. Sweet as.
  3. For wins/losses the three most significant stats for the past 2 decades are contested possessions, inside 50 and marks inside 50. Not rocket science. Win the ball, kick it forward, mark it. On any one game, pressure ratings, free kicks, 1 percenters etc can have an influence but over the course of a season i believe those are the only three to be 'statistically' important across all teams' results over multiple years.
  4. Im no hinkley apologist. But why do people think they have a good list. They've been 50/50 for a few years now except for last year which frankly was a gift to them only having to play in 2 states with minimum disruptions. They have 2 midfielders you'd worry about. (amon not bad but he's not strong tier b) They have one key forward in Dixon who's never kicked 50 goals in a season. And a bunch of kids who go in and out of games because they aren't that good? Consistency is a thing. robbie gray is a gun but on the wrong side of 33. Last night you could see holes in their list everywhere, primarily their midfield. And against the teams with better lists their deficiencies gets exploited. I dunno, 5-8th seems about right.
  5. Play a drinking game where you take a shot every time a player or an action is described as 'unbelievable' . a) surely, given it happens every week, there is a chance one could believe it happened again. B) youll be proper drunk by half time. having said that, Petracca was unbelievable last night.
  6. Im def ok with viney getting more tackles and/or pressure efforts than disposals.
  7. Doesnt BBB just love to play in front. He is a ripper imo. Like a golfer on a course he knows well, the midfield will learn exactly where you can afford to 'miss' . Take 5-10 percent off the kick. He will be tough to stop and will continually bring the ball to front and centre. Ps convinced james jordan is the second coming of a young joel selwood. Head over the ball, gets the high contact frees, courageous, skillful. What a debut season so far.
  8. This is where the NFL does it so creatively or has done in the past. Coaches should be considered as part of draft value. Patriots gave up a first rounder for Belichick in 2000. How did that turn out? Eg you want him Collingwood? Ok well, we could let him go for a early second rounder. Would be a great addition to our game i reckon.
  9. This exactly. Having a stronger and more 'talented' forward line helps covers up our decencies with ball use into 50. But if we keep butchering the ball if forwards have space and separation its not going to matter.
  10. Agreed we need a big forward, but in terms of our list, i think we also need a midfielder who is elite by foot. As long as harmes, trac, oliver and viney are getting a lions share of inside 50 entries, forward connection will remain a problem whomever is in the forward line.
  11. I dont know if he's ready, but from all reports Bowey is a good decision maker and kick. Id be keen to see him in for sparrow. We need some polish in the midfield delivering into 50 by foot. Viney, trac, oliver and Harmes are all pretty much incapable of consistently kicking it to the advantage of the forward and in some cases anywhere near them.
  12. Salem Mcdonald Gawn May Fritsch Lever
  13. Easy up guys! Last quarter showed if we bring our pressure, get lots of free uncontested possession through the middle and have extra numbers streaming into fifty we can convert into goals and a big score. Oh wait. This is why top teams have a key forward who stays at home. So players like Petracca, Viney, Hunt and Oliver who are below average kicks and decision makers by foot dont have to think too much.
  14. Yea i think this is fair enough. LJ is just going to be a weapon in a few years and will have match winning influence in games. Jordan reminds me of a young Joel Selwood. Hard at it and courageous from day one. Selwood came into that Cats team which already had a star midfield and averaged 20 touches/5 tackles his first year once he settled.
  15. STOP YELLING AT ME, DEVON!
  16. Just quietly, how well is James Jordan tracking in his first year of afl? Again 20 odd touches, 5 tackles, 5 score involvements from 60 percent time on the ground. Can kick a goal too. Depth in midfield is a cornerstone of dynasties.
  17. psychology is a funny thing. Supporters of those 4 teams you mention probably look at the fact we are two games clear on top of the ladder and pencil them down as a loss also (or at most 50/50 which they probably are).
  18. Weid reminds me of a college nfl player that can dominate lower age and inferior levels but doesnt have the attributes when he's up against real quality in the pros. He needs something extra. Size, stamina, mongrel, whatever. You don't get many free runs from the side of packs against part timers in the AFL. He definitely doesnt remind me of warren tredrea but each to their own.
  19. For sure. Not against the decision as revenue is important. And you learn from losses so maybe Goodwin and the coaching staff come away and think about how Collingwood was able to play the ground with a better system. A lot more scoring shots with similar ball numbers. Admittedly a lot of players had off days too.
  20. Fun reading the meltdowns on here. Two of our greatest strengths have been our structure covering wide open expanses and our running fitness levels in last quarters. Scg takes both out of the equation. Play that game again at the mcg and i'd say its not a scrap and clog fest it seemed to be on the telly. Just an awful ground for AFL.
  21. Historically i agree. But listening to nick r (one of the aa selectors), he seemed pretty forthright he at least will be selecting wingman for his team. (Specifically Langdon). Recent rule changes have increased the values of wingers and there's a chance a few of the selectors pick em. Mccluggage (hes played more inside recently but its not a shock him on a wing) and Langdon for mine.
  22. Death, taxes and opposition fans unequivocally respecting and fearing Max Gawn. Other than Dusty, there's a not a player in the comp given such unanimous regard.
  23. Thanks for clarifying the comment. :). Yea, it was shizen. But imo despite how much you make, humans still make mistakes. I think anyone is entitled to a really bad day. (He's usually pretty good?) His confidence was clearly shot and a leader should have gone over to him quickly and told him to calm down. But er, does St Kilda have leaders?
  24. Amazing how we all have these wonderful conversations about how mental health. And yet seemingly educated people think its totally fine to sit at a keyboard and write this cr$p frankly and add to the culture of abuse. You'd belt him? Ive got money on him taking you on and giving it back twice as bad. I dare say he's pretty cut up and wouldnt hold back.
  25. Yes, you can cherry pick. You're comparing this years three game average of an established player to the first five season of another. I prefer to keep it like for like myself (3.5 v 4.9 at the same stage of career). Whatever the case, the undeniable fact is he averages less than kennedy, mckay, hawkins, lynch etc etc. im not knocking him, but its a very valid question of how to rectify.
