  1. This is exactly right. When something doesnt work, you change it up. The definition of insanity and all. Also, spend the next 24 months kicking as many balls at luke jackson as possible and develop him exclusively into a marking mobile forward. His edge is his athleticism. Its wasted tapping it to one of our midfielders presently.
  2. This is absolutely spot on. Furthermore, after the departure of Hogan, the FD put their eggs in the wrong basket, banking on Weiderman being a KPF and giving up pick 6 (ben king...) to acquire May. May is top player, but its turned out to be an abject misreading of the list requirements. After rolling the dice on SW to then not give him games 18 months down the line is utterly baffling. He is only 23, give him a string of games out of the goal square. If he gets beaten, so be it. But he will drag a tall away from Fritsch and Tmac.
  3. Petracca is playing some game. He has clearly taken his game to the next level. He's the only midfielder id trust to make a good decision and execute it into fifty. Viney dead last. Got to trade him or Brayshaw out for a decent forward whilst they still have value.
  4. In years past players held their positions. Enforcing two players from each team within the 50 metre arc at all times would effectively be analogous to reducing the teams to 16 without actually changing the number of players (for the purists). It would also have the added benefit of different types of players being part of lists. Lockett wouldnt get a game right now.. doesnt chase, not fit enough and not allowed to elbow jaws. But if a player doesnt have to run 10 km a game, power forwards would make a come back. Resting ruckman up forward would be a serious match up threat. You would be rewarded from quick transition from half back. Right now, one sideways kick and you're facing eighteen men in a zone. the two enforced players dont have to be the same for the whole game. It wont be netball because the players dont have to be specified. Eg If you see a match up advantage it may allow senior leaders to direct on the fly. Eg, trac goes deep goal square for 10 minutes etc. Only issue is the umpires have to pay attention, but a quick glance and counting to 4 is not that hard.
  5. Why do people think the these 'habits' will disappear. Where's the evidence? These guys have been playing football for 15+ years. Goodwins been coach for 3 years+. But suddenly, theyll become good decision makers by coaching in july 2020? At what point do you admit its just not in their dna (which has other great attributes). Rightly, the coaching emphasis is on 'foward connection', but if you're not an instinctive excellent decision maker like pendlebury etc players end up getting confused, nervous, in two minds. Which we're starting to see a lot of. Simply must change the coach, the game plan or the personnel if we dont see results by year end.
  6. Our list needs a quality key forward. This game illustrates it yet again. And we need to sacrifice a contested midfielder. Dominating inside 50s and contested possessions is a game plan that is not working with the current list
  7. We have only one guy on our list who has kicked more than 35 goals in a season. Once. We have abundance of contested mids. Viney + 1st rounder for jeremy cameron (via essedon etc) has to be a year end consideration. Fwiw, in 2018 we were 9-6 without jv. He's a fantastic player but if there's one team in the afl that can give up an inside mid for a key forward to correctly balance their list, its mfc.
