Potential Father Son Prospect Noah Yze
My impression of Toumpas was that he had all the skills but didn't think well under pressure.

Yze replacement
I think it is pretty clear that the best coaches were not naturally gifted players, but were players who had to work hard to improve and know what it takes - eg Sheedy, Hardwick, Mark Thompson, Clarkson, Northey etc etc

Farewell James Harmes
We are losing Dunstan and JJ, and Brayshaw's future is under a cloud. I say, we keep Harmes. I don't know if anyone else knows what the story was behind his absences this year for personal reasons. I certainly don't. But it seemed clear to me that, whatever they were, they were affecting him a lot. If he is through that now, then perhaps he can get back to his best form as a big-bodied midfielder with grunt.

Yze replacement
I think moving Chaplin would be a mistake; he is doing an outstanding job in defence. What about Richardson? Couldn't he be the game day strategist? He always did a good strategy job against us when he was at St Kilda....

Yze replacement
Can you please go back to your boring thread about board governance? This is a thread about coaching!

Yze replacement
So much criticism of Goody here. I look back at the season and think: if the goal umpire/ARC system has worked properly we would have beaten Carlton and ended up second with all that that brings; both finals were lost by a whisker in games where we frankly outplayed our opponents. And to say that Goodwin has used the same tactics for years: i disagree. Yes, he has consistently focused on contested ball and defence, which is what wins finals, but he has changed other things - this year we didn't just kick to the left forward pocket all the time; we were more attacking when we had the chance, but we were cruelled by the lack of fit forwards - serious injuries to Brown, Petty, Fritsch, TMac, leaving us totally reliant on a first year player who then got himself rubbed out for the final against Carlton. I think Stinear is a serious option, but for a forward coach would be happy with Dew. Fagan, BTW, is busy coaching horses.

Non-MFC: Finals Week 03
One good thing about Brisbane getting on top is that we don't have to see shots of that [censored] t..d Fevola any more

Would the fourth from the right be Barrie Vagg?

Yze replacement
In the prelim both McRae and Kingsley coached from ground level. They are both doing alright at coaching. As for replacing Yze, what about Mick Stinear? He seems to be able to coach.

Legendary Guernsey Numbers of the MFC
2 has been a pretty good number.....

TMac & Brown
Gee, this is a particularly vicious thread! We are talking about human beings here, both of whom have worked very hard to try and give value to the club; both contributed mightily to the 21 flag, both have been cut down with injuries. I suspect Brown will retire but I believe he would have plenty to offer as a mentor at Casey; I don't know what he is being paid but I doubt if it is top dollar. He might also assist with forward line tactics/coaching, and he is already working with the AFLW team. I don't think we should give up on TMac yet.

How do players lose the skill of kicking straight?
I love the way JVR counts his steps. It seems to me to be an excellent way to force yourself to focus.

Farewell James Jordon
No surprise there.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
Correct. Oscar-winning performance by TDK.

Contracted Tomlinson Looks to Move On?
I like it. He stiffened up our defence, and who knows, maybe next year they will try Daniel Turner as a KPF?

Exit interviews 2023
Agree with all of this. I would love to think that Petty will be back fit and firing, but these foot injuries seem to take a long time to get over. It may not be quite so bad with a player like him who is not totally dependent on mobility though. I am sure that you are right about Grundy. I think Jackson really let us down last year and i am quite angry about it - all that stuff about "i haven't decided" when we now know he absolutely had, and to my mind he really didn't put in, especially against Brisbane. Reading between the lines, i think Goodwin must think the same and that is why he didn't select Grundy in either of our finals, even as a sub. I don't blame Grundy like i do Jackson, though; we were pushing Grundy out really. And i assume that is why Goodwin didn't select Hibberd, despite his excellent work on Elliott.

Cool light of day
The Lever short option was to Rivers and at the game I was screaming at him to take it. (Surprisingly he ignored me😂). All the talk about sack the coach: the players adore him - that's why we have so many champions on long term contracts. A new coach might not get the same response.

The Villains
Hawkins for sure - ask May how he managed to get a broken jaw from a "loose" handball. I would have put Powell-Pepper for a long time, but I think I have to learned to respect him a bit.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
That is exactly correct. 1000% agree. Why aren't the AFL arguing on that basis? They seem to be letting Collingwood define the argument.
-
Any word on Angus?
Completely agree, and also it meant that Trac couldn't play as a forward. There were many reasons we lost but this was an important one. Just shows how hollow the "threat" was.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
I have been consistently saying how bad Barrett is. He idolises Geelong and he hates Melbourne; he is also an all-round [censored].

Michael Hibberd Hanging Up the Boots
Not surprising, but he's going out while still playing good footy. I thought that after quarter time he killed Elliott who is s good player. He's been great for Melbourne - and we've been great for him.

VFL scratch match
He made his debut in a final in 1982 and kicked 5 goals
