  1. Going on our performance this season, we may have a crack at May next year. I'm looking forward to gaving a look at him on Saturday morning when he runs out for NT. Coverage of the U16 Champ finals will be on AFL.com: http://www.afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/tab...px?newsId=68066 I'll be paying close attention to Tom Scully in the TAC Cup final Friday arvo as well. I expect May and Scully to figure prominently in next years draft.
  2. Sean Wight FB, Graeme Yeats or Brett Lovett in a pocket, Rod Grinter or Matty Whelan in the other. Yeah, Neitz back to CHB, flanked by Stephen Febey and Yze (maybe swap Yze with Cam Bruce on the wing). Jako to FF. One of Green, Davey or Andy Lovell to the flank. Maybe TJ to the bench for one of the Glenn Lovett's. I'd try and find room for Tingay as well (at the expense of Bennett maybe?)
  3. For the record Naitanui scored 9 goals in 17 matches for Swan Districts and averaged 10.2 disposals per game. My math has Watts averaging more goals and more possesions per game.
  4. I don't think that's a fair comparison for people to keep raising. Molan was never rated a top 10 talent going into the draft. Pre-draft he was projected to be a late second, or more likely third round selection. His toughness was one aspect that elevated him in Danihers eyes (wasn't Camerons recommendation at this pick overuled by ND?), so using Molan as an example is counter intuitive to your initial reservation on Watt's toughness. Watt's is rated a genuine top 5 talent going into a strong draft. He is coming in with runs on the board that Molan, as a speculative pick, just did not have. It is not often that we have a chance to nab a quality KPP, and that is the opportunity we are facing now. I would be curious to know which player CAC would have selected instead of Molan. Dal Santo maybe?
  5. He's played a fair bit of footy up forward for Swan Districts (and spent a little bit of timeup forward for WA in NAB champs). He shows the odd flash, but hasn't shown the capacity to kick multiple goals yet. An excellent prospect, but I'm still hoping for Watts at this stage. Let's not forget this kid is an impressive athlete himself, but has shown good football skills in addition.
  6. At those picks I'd be ecstatic if we got two of Michael Walters, Matthew Broadbent, Sam Blease and Tom Swift.
  7. I'm still hoping for Walters with 17 or 19
  8. "AFL national development manager David Matthews said based on early research - with the players available in the 2010 national draft having taken part in this year's national under 16 championships - the 2010 national draft was shaping up as 'a normal draft' rather than a super draft like 2001 or a slightly weaker draft such as 2002." At least we have two strong draft classes ahead of us before GC raid the draft, and I am somewhat comforted by the above notion that it's not shaping as a 'super draft'.
  9. Fair enough, hope he is, because I get the feeling we may have a shot at selecting him if he is eligible next year. Cheers Nugget, BB.
  10. Thanks for the heads up lads. So he definately can't sneak into the 09 draft as a bottom ager?
  11. Gee. Has his limitations, but thought he was one of the Weagles better performers in the second half of the season. Bit rough on him.
  12. Tom Scully looks like a terrific midfield prospect for next years draft. I'm leaning toward Watt's now, Scully next year (or if the seasons painful enough Scully/ Butcher combo). Anyone know anything about Steven May from NT? Indigenous CHF with big raps who could be a high pick next year.
  13. I say pay him out and get rid of him. He's not part of the clubs plans in going forward, and he is a nuisance off field. I'd like to see us use all of our picks in the draft and still have room well for pick 1 in the psd. We should just about have enough room on the list for this now.
  14. Last night I sat up and re-watched the WA v Vic Metro game from 07. Wanted to get another look at Rich and Naitanui as well as Grimes, Morton and Maric. Morton's kicking was phenomenal in this game. Laser like over 45-50 metres. It was truly freakish. Not quite in the Rich classof kicking, but didn't look far off. Don't know what happened over the course of the season, but he has the vision and ability. I don't know what happened over the course of the season (I recall him kicking well early in the season), but he has the vision and ability, he needs to find the confidence.

I still lean slightly toward Watts, but Naitanui's starting to do the things required to make up ground (screaming marks for one). He picked up 20 touches and a goal in this game and his play affected the outcome of the result playing both back and forward (Spandermann was first ruck for this game). Still handballed more than he kicked (7 kicks 13 handballs) and only had 2 marks for the day (good ones though), but he is showing steady improvement. Don't necessarily need to kick truly to be the next Buddy.

  17. Terrific initiative. I'd be interested in coming in pre-game.
  18. I expect Ziebell and Sidebottom to be gone by the time our second and third picks come along, I think we should try and nab Broadbent or Rhys O'Keefe with one of these picks, as they could fit this mould. If Jamie Sheahan wasn't so small he'd be right in the mix too. I'd love for us to take the punt on Tom Swift as well. Exceptional before he was injured.
  19. Jimmy's described it as a 'culture of mediocrity'. I feel the image of the club off field has just as much to do with how the players represent it. There's a lot of talk about the club not standing for anything. Maybe a weakness of identity. If we compare directly with the Kangaroos, they have the public image of the defiant Shinboner Spirit, how are Melbourne viewed? What are the players playing for at Melbourne, pride in the jumper? Themselves? The club needs to draw a line in the sand, and the players need to commit themselves to this stance. I thought debt demolition was a step in the right direction and Brock showed his commitment to club last week. He needs his teammates to follow his example. We need some leadership both on and off the field (especially post Neitz). I've seen signs, but there's still a long way to go.
  20. I've got the same injury (ruptured while sprinting). Without the benefits of AFL quality rehab, it's going to take me six months (from surgery) all up to walk normally. Even with top quality rehab, I'd imagine Robbo would still have a similar schedule. Is it just on three months since he ruptured his achilles?
  21. This is the game. Apparently Naitanui was moved onto Wilson when he was on 6 goals for the day. Wilson kicked just the one goal on Naituanui. 22. Chris Connolly confirmed that Melbourne made contact with Jonathan Brown. Also confirmed that Brown let his agent know that he was not interested in playing for Melbourne. Pretty sure that is that.
  23. Losing Yze, Neitz, Holland and possibly White Would have to alleviate that a fair amount, wouldn't it? I can't imagine the remaining young blokes would be commanding that much, and the article read like treatment for player injuries was eating into that percentage (not sure how that works) which hopefully is a temporary inflation (who knows with Moloney and Rivers luck with injury?). We could always forward load a portion of the salary offered to Warnock anyways. I don't think it's going to effect any offer made to Warnock. We had the finances to make a play for Judd last pre-season. It's going to boil down to where Warnock wants to play, and hopefully Matthew puts the hard word on (or keeps putting it on).
  24. You could add Carroll to that list. Presuming Woneamirri holds onto Neita's spot, those delistings would leave us with 6 vacant spots. If we elevate Valenti, we can pick 4 in the National Draft + 1 in the PSD. At least that's how I see it.
  25. Edi's tied to Geelong through the NSW Scholarship scheme. Can't see them passing on him.
