Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
AaronDaveyChipsAndGravey replied to tallstuey's topic in Melbourne Demons
For anyone wondering the key forwards of any interest that come out of contract at the end of next year are: Ben Brown Ben King Brody Mihocek Jeremy Cameron (RFA) Mason Wood (RFA) Patrick McCartin By no means the full list as at trade time anyone and everyone seems to be gettable regardless of contract. Pretty slim pickings if you ask me, and I’m of the view that Cameron wont leave the Giants. The interesting ones are King and Brown which could definitely be gettable -
Angus Brayshaw to Fremantle Rumours
AaronDaveyChipsAndGravey replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
Probably just journo hyperbole and taking things out of context. However I'm getting nervous when Mitch Cleary is involved in the reporting, is rarely wrong and fast becoming the Woj of AFL news breaking. -
Averaged around a goal every 2 games and roughly 20 touches in 2018. Definitely a sound depth upgrade for a wing role or a high half-forward. What was his injury that kept him out this year?
-
The circus around him is ridiculous. There's been some enormous amounts of overvaluing players worth both $$ and especially picks at the moment. Dwayno Russell suggesting Dougal Howard was worth a top 10 pick takes the cake

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON

Interesting chat on Trade Radio this morning. Tomlinson was saying that it was Goody’s pitch to him that really impressed him when deciding on the Dees as his club of choice amongst the Saints and Dogs (cant wait for all the synics here to claim its 100% about the $$$). Also said he feels his best positions are within the midfield which from where I took it was on-ball, as well as on and center half back. However in an interview yesterday said that the club’s idea was to play him on the wing and in the forward line. Will be intersting to see where he fits in, although I’d like to see him sit in one position to find some stability and only move him if there’s a desperate need to fill a hole on gameday. -
Not a huge highlight reel but skip to 1:26 1:47 6:20 6:30

Jeez, reverse the deal immediately..could derail the club entirely -
ANB doesnt have any sort of speed to apply pressure or be that goal sneak forward. I get that Butler doesnt exactly shoot the lights out as an option but its a department we severely lack in now that Garlett is gone. The club surely wouldnt have turfed him knowing that we wouldnt replace him, hence the interest in Elliot. The only 2 we have right now that could fulfill that develop into that who have some experience in the seniors are Baker or Lockhart. Butler wont cost much, and at worst would be on a 2 year or so deal so if doesnt work out we move on.
-
I dont exactly see them growing on trees at the moment. Garlett was far too cooked to persist with, imagine the uproar here if we passed on Elliot, Butler and Gray to keep him?
-
Now that we’re done looking at Elliot, how about this bloke. 2017: 30.15 from 23 games 2018: 18.10 from 15 games 2019: 5.3 from 7 games Won’t be shooting the lights out, however would do well in our forward system . That 2017 year where he was involved in the Tigers premiership tilt kicking 30 odd with 5 or 6 as well during the finals series amongst the likes of Rioli, Caddy and Castagna is pretty decent indicator of his ability. Would certianly come cheap in terms of both $$$ and picks. I don’t think he’s gone that far backwards, simply others like Bolton have gone past him. Kicked 21 from 15 games this year in the VFL which isn't amazing, however a fresh start could be exactly what he needs to get back into form, much like Sam Lloyd's move to the doggies has rejuvenated his career into an almost 2 goal a game player. Could definitely exceed 25+ goals for a small forward which would really compliment our forward mix which is imo far too reliant on taking marks inside 50 especially given how atrocious our delivery is.
-
I'd hope the footy department are sensible enough to leave whatever we have on the table. Hope we have a decent look into Sam Gray or Dan Butler. Neither would cost that much in terms of both $$ and picks and could end up being to us what Sam Lloyd is to the Doggies now.
-
Nixon was also parading the Hawks as one of the candidates which turned out to be completely false, and then piggybacked on the Brisbane info from yesterday claiming he knew all along. Sounds like guesswork to me. On the basis he's correct, I don't think we could conceivably up that offer.
-
It's a circus led by two absolute clowns
-
I'm still holding out a slither of hope. Could all just be doing due diligence to grab a more sizeable contract both years and money-wise elsewhere (i.e. us) Refuse to believe everything old Tommy B says, however it's looking a bit grim. Hopefully the club has got a fallback plan for another small forward.

Tom Browne on 7 reporting that we're "resigned to the fact we're not getting him"
-
Only hope for us here is that it's just him and his manager doing their due diligence by checking out all offers. Only drawcard for us atm is that we offer more $$$ and that he desperately would like to stay in VIC.
-
I think given how much it would kill him to be training right next to his old mob and that and he's always seemed to be one to shy away from the media makes me reckon Brisbane are probably his preference here.
-
Elliot also been seen touring Lions facilities this arvo per Tom Browne
-
Most seem to think that because they can't picture him in a Dees jumper, that it's not going to happen. Others seem fairly convinced of Mark Steven's tweet yesterday that Pies insiders say he's saying.

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?

Exactly. Tiges did it in 2017 without two ‘key forwards’, Lynch this year was just the cherry on top. -
Gun target - Key Forward recruit?

I doubt there'll be any movement on this front until next year. Apart from Daniher, Bruce and Jenkins, unfortunately just isnt much available atm. Of the others remaining Mason Wood is an interesting one, could be good but is super inconsistent and doesnt exactly form a formidable duo with McDonald imo. If Cameron dosent re-sign at the Giants next year then I'm sure there'll be a bonanza involving every vic club to land him, likewise with Ben King. I think the club is still in the mind of hoping Weideman comes good this year and will also be interesting to see how they see Petty developing next year as either part of the forward or back groups. The club should at least wait another year and see if that 2nd tall spot is still an absolute must fill with better talent when at least there are seemingly better players to look at in 2020.
