Are we really panicking about an opinion piece like this? Are we really back to thinking of the draft and rising star nominations as our success markers? Drop the 'young and inexperienced' mantra. We've been trying to have a crack at a flag. For too long we've always looked to the future and finally we've started to try and focus on getting actual success and getting a peak age group together rather than just being the perennial 'young talent' club. Honestly have absolutely no problem with not being the highest rated for under 23 talent by "AFL Staff Writers". It's the least of our problems at the moment.

Roosy: "Deplorable" Dees have "no recognisable brand"
Lord Nev replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, he implied one area which would improve us. He did not say it's our only problem and fixing that would fix absolutely everything. -

That's not what was said. -
You would hope every player thinks that, but not sure that Goodwin has totally reinforced it if you look at selection.

Yep, it does. But if you have a more accurate way to quantify kicking, other than a rating based on the difficulty of the kick compared with the expected percentage of a player to nail it, then I'm all ears. And just FYI - rating a list doesn't determine it's performance.

So if you can't tell what the brand is, there is no brand then. -
Fake news. "Kick rating takes into account the difficulty of a player's kick and attributes an expected percentage for any player to successfully hit a target in various scenarios. A zero per cent rating means the footballer is performing as expected. The Demons' best performers on this system with a minimum of 100 kicks this year are Nathan Jones (+5.1%), Christian Salem (+3.2%), Bayley Fritsch (+2.6%) and Harmes (+1.3%)." Source

We can. We just have to use a first round pick either this year or next year.

Haven't heard anything about a treatment plan, what's the go there mate?
-
Not 100% sure on reliability of info, but apparently Sam Weideman's injury from the weekend is a lot worse than expected and he could be done for the year. More related to injury impact rather than concussion as such.

Brand just means what they stand for. Get over the terminology and focus on the point. -

You can separate the two though. I don't think anyone would deny the impact our injuries have had this year (not even on Demonland, surely?), but that doesn't mean there aren't other issues also. Our game style has been a mess and the level of confusion among the players on game day is well above the level that could be just explained away with cohesion. The coaching structure changes both midseason and likely at end of season should tell us it wasn't just the injuries. -

Look, apologies for maybe coming on a bit strong, it's just a point of frustration with me sometimes with fellow Dees fans that they have a crack at a man who did a lot to turn our club around. Most competitive people can come across as being about themselves. I have no problem with that. It means they have pride in what their doing and want to win. I feel like we don't have enough of that kind of attitude at our club. What 'questionable things' did he do? Of course you can question whatever you like, but isn't it the results that matter? -

Not sure on if he's made up his mind just yet, but from what I've heard he does have the passion to get back involved at clubland in some capacity. Won't be with the Dees though. -

Roos' situation changed. That happens in life mate. His family were able to stay in Australia due to a massive amount of work put it in by his wife that saw her business really flourish. Worth finding things out before having an uninformed crack at someone. Part of the reason he's looking at getting back involved is how the performance of the MFC has impacted what he considers his legacy. Sure, he has a healthy ego, but you need that to survive in the footy industry where random people you've never met try to pull you down all the time (hint hint). Some people think of that as competitiveness, so not surprising some Demons fans don't recognize it. As for fans chanting his name, please, is that a serious point? Did he initiate that? But again, another Demonald poster potting the person rather than recognizing the comments. -

Standard Demonland response. Attack the person making the comment rather than admit the problem. -
People are acting like he's demanded 800k. Not like Demonland to overreact I guess... How about we just treat him well and let the bloke finish his career, whether it's 2019 or 2020, with the support of the fans who seem to have forgotten that for a decade he was the only thing we could trust about the club. Honestly think there's a Melbourne supporter condition that seems to manifest itself in delighting in our bad times, wanting us to fail so they can have the 'I told you so' moment and trying to rip down anyone who has shown heart for the club, while simultaneously decrying our lack of 'heart and soul'.

Agree. We will severely lack 'directional leadership' both on and off field. I have hopes May and Lever can provide that at the defensive end, but we will lack it anywhere forward of that.
-
Official announcement on this coming very soon.
-
Not saying I'm his biggest fan or he's a rocket surgeon, just saying it's pretty easy for us as general footy nuffies to just criticize his opinions and predictions, but he's the one putting in the research and putting his name out there to cop it. He's played 241 more games than I ever will so he's more qualified than me.
-
Don't really think it's an 'easy' job at all. Whether you agree with him or not, he's one of the best for actually doing a stack of research into his analysis. If it was a 'very easy/high paying job' wouldn't we all be raking it in with every post on Demonland? I agree we should have had the blowtorch a long time ago, and if we weren't such an irrelevant club we might have.
-
Why do people always attack a commentator when they point out how bad we are? MFC have been extremely lucky so far in how they've avoided their right whack from the media. Only Ox and Lyon have noticed so far, but now, finally, the focus is on us (at least a bit anyway). Robbo has also described us as a 'basket case' in his regular post-round write up. It's not a commentators job to find the answers, it's our coaches.
-
Read the post again mate.

Yep, can totally understand that. But I think the core group have packed it in for the year, and we've got far too many players feeling 'safe' this year as it is. We've ignored genuine competition for spots all year, and now we're reaping what we sow in that regard with unfathomable lack of intent, effort and willingness to run.
