  1. Maybe last year, but not this year.
  2. Nope. I don’t buy what your having. It’s the business end, 70k plus - motivation and effort is unquestionable. No excuses anymore. We are not good enough to win it this year. Our best is the best crap doesn’t stick either. Because our best against the best isn’t good enough either.
  3. ANB roles is one of defence. He plays a role that allows Trac to roam forward. I’m not sure there is anyone else that can do it. Even when he stuffs it up with the ball, he’s a role player. JJ plays the wing role well, but he’s too slow on the outside and Ed was getting schooled by Sidebottom on the other. I would be very tempted to target one of Spargs and Kozzy for Chandler. They have too often let us down defensively this year. Cannot reward mediocrity. I thought it was the non playing 23 that was supposed to keep us honest.
  4. I think we are unbeatable when we get the game on our terms, but we are less than a 50/50 proposition otherwise. Teams that leave a lose defender in our d50 would now be considered bordering on tanking given our fragility when all manned up. So we can expect this for every game left this season. It’s funny, when we are one-on-one in d50 our dream defensive setup doesn’t look as great as it did last year. It has been nullified. Our demise is usually bought on with unrelentless pressure all over the ground, fast and risky ball movement through the corridor. Sydney, Doggies, Geelong and now Collingwood (twice) have done this to us. They take the outside position in the contest, because they can prey on us to cough up a turnover. Sure, it doesn’t always work and when we break stoppage we hurt them. We are in dire need of an adjustment. Is it more pressure from us? Maybe. Is it better execution; sure that would help. I detest Chris Scott, but I applaud his bravery to make such a change to his game plan. And with the other teams in top 4 playing a similar way, makes you wonder if we still have the winning formula.
  5. Kozzy should have nailed that goal early in the 3rd. That’s when I knew. Collingwood were just not missing.
  6. Pies were sitting off our midfielders all night. Their tactic was to generate turnover here, that’s why we won so much ball and clearance- I think it’s by design. So Oliver had little chance in driving out of stoppage.
  7. I find I am far less stressed out losing while live at the game vs watching at tv. I put this 💯 on the commentators. It’s disgusting.
  8. Fitness wasn’t the problem tonight. We dominated all the stats bar tackling. This was lost in game plan. We stick to this philosophy of our method beats the opponents. Which gets you through H&A but if the Pies have the one trick. How can you not have a plan A,B &C to take it away from them? We don’t have to alter our method that much.
  9. It’s shocking isnt it. It’s not effort. It’s our f50 entry and the lack of forward structure. As much as we all laid into TMac he’s absence is leaving a big gaping hole that is not easily filled. Remember Gawn/LJ were the 3rd tall in this lineup. Not the 2nd. TMac won’t impact this season and Weid is done. Not sure JVR is ip to it just yet. We another tall KPF desperately. And F Me. Who TF is Johnson? Was a performance like JUH 2 weeks back.
  10. Good teams will not afford us that luxury. Plain and simple. It’s not back 6 defence that is the issue, It’s pressure at the source and our poor inside 50 pressure. tonight in our f50 pies hB and midfielders would setup attacking side of the contest before we even delivered inside 50. They would then spread hard the moment they win the ball and burn our Small forwards. It’s Incredibly risky, incredibly arrogant but it’s their one trick and they are very good at it. The frustrating thing was it worked time after time. It’s a bit like how our defensive would choke games last year. Teams would fall for it game after game. In time, it’ll be worked out and exposed for the flabby game plan that it is but I suspect it will take an incredibly solid defensive performance to stop it. Not many teams capable and I thought we were one, but clearly not.
  11. One thing is certain. The game has changed. Our game style is outdated and we don’t have the ball movement and skill to play an offensive game. We will get picked off next week in the same way but will probably scrape home against a hapless Brisbane outfit. We are not finishing top 4.
  12. They were both frees but we weren’t given the same benefit from the umps.
  13. Goodwin was outcoached tonight. At the ground it was clear as day in how Pies setup for the sling shot. Goodwin did nothing to counter it. The forward pressure was way off as the just waltz it out and the game looked exactly like it did against the Dogs. This time we don’t have loading to blame.
  14. I hate Collingwood
  15. Momentum has turned big time. Pies made up their tackle deficit in one quarter. Their pressure is immense and we are crumbling.
  16. Not sure how this is looking on TV but the Pies are extraordinarily lucky in conversion. We have been very wasteful in front of goal. Should have put this game to bed already. Forward pressure is way off tonight and Kozzy, Spargs and ANB do not look involved at all. Pies are playing fast break footy. Surprised that they are still full of zip.
  17. Outnumbered in the crowd. Disappointing Dees turn out.
  18. Rain should clear somewhat by game time. but this is probably what it will feel like getting there.
  19. There should be some compensation for trading coaching staff i reckon. 😀
  20. Im hearing that the rest has really given him a boost - "haven't felt this good for 14 or 15 weeks". Hopefully that translates with some hard leading and a few snags. He is due for a halfa dozen isnt he?
  21. Listened to it live and was initially thinking what else is he going to say about Ross Lyon and then bang he lets go of this nugget. Why, why, why Ed? Hopefully he plays a game to back up his statements, because they will be coming for him for sure. I cant see how a single statement alters the result of a game, but still id prefer we no longer give Lingers the mic.
  22. he's ready to have a crack and the Giants will have some talent to work with. But no doubt they are a bit of a basket case right now with salary cap imbalances. Hopefully he can facilitate a trade with MFC with some player swaps.
  23. He’s non reaction to Trac was rather peculiar but then again he did initiate an off the ball jab.
  24. Darcy will become the dominant tap ruckman once Gawn retires. on his current trajectory he will be the front runner to snag a few AA. If we can snare him in the LJ trade with Freos 1st round pick, I think you take that trade and never look back. Under Max’s tutelage, Darcy can become an even better player, lose some kegs and build a massive tank. If we can then get a hold of the Lions 1st pick via a pick swap, we maybe able to get into the top 5 and snare a KPF.
  25. Anything beyond 20 years is irrelevant given a number of factors. But my point was largely based on the last 20 years of footy. If you look back at the recent Lions, Hawks and Tiger dynasties, only the Hawks finished top of the ladder once in a premiership year. aside from those specific teams, the top position team has only won it ~20% of the time (in the last 20 years). That is more relevant to me than what happened in the 1920s. So statistically speaking - and i think this matters considering who is on top right now - the best H&A team is unlikely to be the best finals team (unless of course you are the 2021 premiers)
