  1. Its imperative they move on. So good on them.

Yep, use some of the softcap to recruit a forward coach. Goal kicking, leading patterns, when to handball, when not to. Mihocek is a benefactor of fast ball movement, with a relatively open forward half. He is an ok forward. Ill go as far as saying that even Weed would look better in a team with that type of ball movement. JVR just needs time. He is not the answer today, maybe next year, but much more likely to have a bigger impact from 2024+. So we need someone to fill the void. 28-30 yo is the primary target zone because they are most like FA (when out of contract), wont demand top dollar and are mature bodied, meaning they will impact immediately.

Hogan has the forward craft and has a high footy IQ. He would demand a defender on him at all times, one that is unlikely to play off him. Couple that with some half decent forward coaching and you'd create an abundance of space in the F50 for which we would have BBB, Fritta and TMac all benefiting. To me its clear that we need a hard bodied competitor in the forward line. Hogan is probably gettable, comes at a reasonable price and would have immediate impact. He should be looked at.
  5. Monday's usually game review and a light session is it not?

Granted Pies defensive strength, however their midfield game is quite poor (as the stats will tell you) hence why we got inside 50 so many times. We wont have that same luxury next 2 weeks. i agree on the Pies game being an outlier - more so the score rather than our game as we actually played well. Their game is so unsustainable on so many levels. You would expect that they will get found out in the next month. Geelong on the other hand look formidable. To dismantle the Saints without Blicavs, Danger & Selwood is being underplayed big time. I think they will win this year and do it comfortably.

Nothing is certain. We should beat the Blues given their starting 22 issues atm, but they will come and come at us hard. Brisbane is 50/50 in my view and will be a tough slog. Really hard to get a read on the players confidence, but it would have taken a beating on Friday night. I see us going 1-1 and finishing 5th. We are walking the same path as the Doggies did last year. Late drop in form, crappy tail-end fixture/draw.... Bevo found a way to galvanize the group and get them to September. Hopefully the coaching group can do the same.
  8. The Doggies are one that are in dire need. Straight swap Thommo <> Naughton 😮. In all seriousness, he is probably a 3rd round pick. Or maybe consider having a crack at Brucey? I'd watch him closely over the next 2 games, to see whether his body can keep going.
  9. Cripps will not get off. Will be 2 weeks minimum - there is plenty of precedent here, he left the ground and made head high contact. Be weary of the wounded animal in Carlton. They are a little underseige atm with injures and form. I'd look at Hunt to neutralize Saad off HB to limit their ball movement. May to McKay and Petty to Curnow. I'd expect Silvangi to play a defensive job on Lever, but otherwise those matchups are pretty even-steven. Oliver will probably go head-to-head with Kennedy and get Harmes to do a run-with on Walsh.
  10. We need some tackling presence in our forward line. Kozzy, Spargs and co just dont have 'it' this year. Hunt? Chandler? Viney? Harmes? We need to change something.
  11. I constantly harass the call in shows with this, never get through on the phone or sms read out. I’m thinking ill have to say something else to try and get through. But I figure nobody wants to hear it. I am so pssd that we wouldn’t boo the umps or anything. I was the only person in Q49 screaming my lungs out on Friday night and would cop it from the other 1000 Pies fans sitting around me. That was the most disappointing thing of the entire night (next to loosing of course) Where is our voice? Where are our fans? The umps get away with it because we are accepting of it.
  12. Is that a higher or lower priority than winning a premiership?
  13. There is a known partying culture at the Dogs - I wonder whether that has anything to do with it.
  14. I think we have seen enough to disarm Geelongs plan - similar to Pies. You guessed it, unrelenting pressure all over the ground with a sprinkle of defensive jobs and hard tags. . whether we can execute is another matter. Next two weeks will give us a real look into the attitude and commitment.
  15. Sadly our list is not built for the attacking game style. We are butchers by foot and bar a few cannot hit targets or lead into space.

We got BBB with arthritis in the knee and can manage him good enough. I don’t know all the circumstances behind him going to Freo, but it was a bad time for him and he probably didn’t have the right people around him that had his best interest at heart. He has openly regretted it so maybe that’s enough to have a conversation. At worst it’s a massive upgrade on Weid. I couldn’t imagine him demanding more than 400K/yr so would be a bargain.
  17. You can see how Geelongs small and half forwards push up all the way to the contest and then attack in a wave of half back. It’s the same way Pies sling shot. This is their blueprint I think you need to stop their out number at the contest to have a crack at winning. It’s a modified version of the Richmond game plan.
  18. Yeah we did. I hate it enormously.
  19. We lack foot skills and are exposed when there is lots of pressure. But we should have chipped a lot more to slow the tempo down at times.
  20. We were not humiliated. It was a cracking game, which could have gone either way.

We are desperate for a KPF. I’d be prepared to give him another chance to prove himself. Without LJ, a forward line of BBB, hogan and TMac is very enticing. JVR will get his opp as we manage BBB through out the year. Three talls with proper leading patterns will suit our game style and give us high contested marks in the forward line. The tigers had similar issues before they got Lynch.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Wasn’t aware that there was issues between Goodwin and himself? I though he wanted to go back to WA. If he’s out of contract, get him in - it’s an absolute no brainer.
  23. Just watching the Doggies games and have seen a few Viney/JJ type tackles applies by the doggies and even they didn’t get the free. I mentioned it earlier on in the week, we just don’t get frees paid (lowest FF this year) I wonder if it has anything to do with being premiers and opposing teams are getting a helping hand.
  24. Need to drop one of Spargo or ANB. Kozzy has given us something over the last month so gets a pass. Give Chandler a go.
  25. Still stinging but with some reflection I have to acknowledge a few things. - The game was probably the best H&A game that has been played all year and perhaps in the past 2-3. It was a scintillating game for neutrals and both sides played a very top brand of football. - in the end it was 7 points. Expected score would probably tell another story , but unless there is some witchery about, everyone is still trying to work how the Pies keep on doing it. - Our system is strong but has pretty obvious weakness. The Pies were able to rise to the occasion and exploit it just enough to get the 4 points. - fitness maybe part of the problem, if our face outs however I think the more pertinent issue is our team defence. We have been in front in all games and teams seem to adjust mid game to counter it. They take more risks, and they seem to keep pulling it off. Some of it is luck, but where there is smoke there is fire. Goody has to address this and the leaders on the ground need to identify it in game and learn how to respond. How good were our responses last year? We haven’t come from behind many times at all this year.
