To be honest they never checked in. Coach ( Nathan Burke ) alluded to chaotic pre season and numerous injuries and poor pre season fitness issues about Round 2. To add insult there has been very little windy home games for more chaotic footy and Whitten University Oval was not ready till halfway during season. There has been very little attempt at elite level recruiting to replace Toogood who masked the frailties of the Dogs forward setup for more than a couple of seasons. Maybe money is not being spent here and it is sad that ALL other teams have surpassed the Dogs when they were an original participant in developing the game like us. Maybe Debbie Lees exit has been felt more than anticipated. I would feel that Nathan Burke will not retain the Head coaching role after the last 2 horror seasons. General fitness levels also screams out poor prep as well as multiple injuries. Actually the Club needs a major review of all their AFLW program. But make it outside as they are in a time warp what’s needed I feel.

AFLW: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne
58er replied to Timothy Reddan-A'Blew's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Totally agree that that was not a legitimate disposal for the first. Got to say though I thought Campbell ruck infringement free a bit soft. If there is ONE criticism of the girls matches umpiring it is the refusal of umps to pay frees ie holding the ball ( insufficient attempt to play the ball on is rife) and some girls just resort to falling on top without any method or intention to make a play. Additionally this results in far to many ball up’s and resulting congestion. Now the skills are better it’s at least a bonus that the top teams are capable of breaking free much more and are eager on looking for scoring opportunities. Higher goals scored now has been a very important consequence. -
AFLW: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne

Doesn’t help in the chief promo ( which does link up with more match day info) that the venue was not posted. Especially now we are no longer certain of playing all our home games at Casey. AFL could probably add some more details to its AFLW ads in form of a few best games highlighted or the whole draw so each team gets an even spin not just the big dogs in town. But it is nice to see our TV free to air coverage which is well deserved. -
I am not even sure the AFL Premiership winner received a monetary amount then. Don’t be so precious because you have made a rather outlandish statement when sponsorship was a pipe dream. I am well aware that the Dees were during their glory years ( 1954 to 1964 ) multi winners of the McClelland Trophy when Firsts Reserves and Under19’s were included. But a cash donation or prize then really? As you know we had limited chances during our 57 year hideaway only in the1987 to 1994 or in 1998 or from 2000 to 2006 if it was still held then. Your assertion has the aura of a very salty fan that is grumpily throwing a toy or two out of your cot. Just be thankful our Club is in the box seat in 2023 for this magnificent prize money and is in the hands of our top shelf AFLW women’s team who will give it an almighty shake like they did in the GF at that venue in Season7 and come up trumps again.

Why next year we have had 7 either delisted or retired this year? Are there many out of contract at the end of 2024? Any one that is on contract now that was about 55/45 on form is already “on a list” held by Poita who demands that guys are only allowed 2 years to find their feet. Such is his over zealous nature we would never had Gawny after about 2 bad knees in!! No doubt Spargo Laurie Tmac BBB Schache and Joel Smith ( of late) are in that category and Hunter and Melky are all needing best ever or very good seasons to be considered to survive to 2025.

Don’t want 2 mids. Caleb Windsor is the outside mid who runs and runs and kicks goals he is a jet IMO and just what our mids need up bolster our run and carry plus as a goal kicking on baller. Curtin if available as a versatile tall for defence and can play up forward also. Or Caddy maybe.

Well really Rev. Caulfield would be as close as you could get to being “ central” with road rail and tram, where enough land exists. Your choice FBend is let’s face it is transport and other facilities very shy. The fact is you want a MFC to substitute for the transport. This could easily be fine for Caulfield really is not necessary. Much is needed at FB other than the Port Oval which is very crowded and may not be the size of the G. Infrastructure for FB area would be needed far more as additional facilities such as admin and huge Gym area etc. You obviously have not lived in the inner SE but Caulfield is far more vibrant and and alive than Port Melbourne. If any one is going to prepare a proposal who is going to fund this? These documents don’t appear on the backs of oily rags or newspapers. You would need to consult with the Club to check so that you are not going off half cocked and wasting your time and money reFBend as a location unless you have already done some research. I feel that we are getting closer in some respects or even being more positive that some locations could be being counted out as alternatives. Bentleigh area is supposed to be one if the SE suburbs in the SE of Melb that has a degree of Dees support but would need checking. Club hopefully can fill in some gaps for those interested on some fronts.

Plays nothing like Jake M. Really couldn’t be more different. More like Laurie/Hunter perhaps with half forward/ forward pocket role preferred. Really is probably different to all our skilled smalls which will be good.
-
Green or Archer probably won’t feature but I agree 2 picks are far better than one.
-
Stiff Arm you forgot Fullarton who is 200cm tall. Surely he is a chance to add some skill in 2024 both forward of centre and in the ruck.

Read my post on this matter I feel it had nothing to do with Clarry or Joel.

On the contrary I don’t have the confidence in Duursma as he has only seemed to play ordinary at Casey in any matches when given the opportunity. Don’t think we are blinkered or in denial like yourself. All of the “ experts “ are very keen on about 7 top choices. Others such as Curtin Caddy Wilson Windsor and the full back options are my preference for 6 and 11 to add class and ability to our needs on our list. Not having seen players live except for highlights can be unfair so I am sure JT and TL will do the job for us superbly as usual. Your assessment of North keeping pick 2 and 3 being traded to us for our package is really a very crazy long shot and crucifies our chances of getting two very good players instead of only one ie your choice Duursma. Why worry about North when there is a class of seven players ( not only Duursma) at the top plus additional needy options for a draft pick for us at 11 as well. The only up trade we should consider is for us to WC for Reid as the choice IMO. Let’s not complicate it when the solution seems a simple NO to a rather wasted and restricted choice of a poll of fantasy rather than fact. Of course we all have our favourites and it is open to opinion always where draft choices are considered.

If you read it correctly I am saying Turner should be preferred unless on the odd occasion we may need a bigger body ie Tommo for any Beasts. I fully understand Disco is not as big bodied as Tommo hence the comment covering this option. Thanks any how Rob Mac.

The club gets the money and will decide how to divide it up.
-
It couldn’t as the women’s comp did not have all 18 teams as participants. So the Trophy was impossible. This is only the second year it was possible. Sorry your little dig at the AFL was misguided. Sure if you look hard enough and check your stats you can find another matter to embarrass City Hall!!
-
Clearly we need a versatile key forward/back ie Curtin, Duursma or Caddy plus an outside mid with pace ie Windsor or even Wilson or Reid solely. That is the ideal scenario but we should be well satisfied if any of the above occurs . A possibility is that at least one or even the pair are AFL ready at start or some later stage in 2024.
-
Well fortunately JT and TL will completely disregard this expectedly overreaction as is posted always when a LJ effect is experienced. If we had taken your advice we wouldn’t have May Lever Rivers Kossie Nibbler Sparrow Harry P JVR Fullarton McAdam Lingers in our team and certainly no flag. Your posts would be why aren’t we choosing the best available as we are not making Finals etc. So it’s wise to be careful what you wish for with your wildly irrational responses to what the Club should do and don’t. I am sure from memory you are not a Victorian indeed may be living overseas so I suppose the Irish girls/guys are taboo as well!
-
That’s a bit rich and not in line with the real situation. Unless you have reliable info on each player you are only putting 5 and 6 and coming up with 15. The AFLW team are in our 2021 spot and last night was a revelation on their competitive ness plus team ethos. North tried hard but we matched any thing they threw at us.
-
Plus Tommo.
-
I would take Windsor at 11 if first if available of the mids as he is a very attacking outside mid who kicks goals and breaks lines. Just what we need an outside runner to provide a big difference. Caddy or Curtin if available at 6 (or whatever ) as a key position/ mid option would be best.
-
What are you on? Tommo and Disco are ready to be a part of our backline. It will be great if Fisco can be given games do that come Finals he will totally ready.
-
You can’t make up your mind Wdee re Tommo or Turner. I think it’s about time we hit games into Disco with an eye always on the opposition if they have a genuine beast in their attack, which May need the bigger body. That’s really the only comment, glad McAdam and Billing’s made the 23. Think both will make it all gongs being equal.

Why Melbourne Must Hire a Coach to Solve Their Forward Woes

The quicker we move on the better. Why worry what Pies traded in 22? Each Clubs needs are different. A back up ruck was needed we chose the wrong one. We could have chosen Frampton as a dead end no stats forward in his GF role but it didn’t suit us. Or as a marking forward we may have used him. Hunter paid his way and was a solid player. For 2024 we have traded for specific needs, for the forward line and I expect that this will alter our dynamics along with Petty all season hopefully backed up by our usual suspects and McAdam and Billing’s. Jake may we’ll assist from Rounds 15 on I hope. Much more pace and skill overall and game plan reset should have us as a good attacking forward team which will be dangerous at any time of having goals runs against any opposition.

McAdam will be in our best 23 ahead of Spargo with ANB still in and Billing's possibly a Sub.
