  1. Agree 100%, let’s see what he can do after a full pre season! He has lifted the team on his own back in a few big games when firing, would be great to see him 100% fit at the start of the season.
  2. D4Life replied to Dee Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
The years been a disaster, an average of nine goals worse per game is dreadful! But that’s not a Pert issue! McArtney, Mission and others will go, lets see who else goes before laying blame! Agree with others that Chaplin hasn’t got through message to the backline, similar whoever is responsible for mids not running both ways!
  3. 2020 on the positive it’s an Olympic Year and the Dees generally perform better! Pros Better draw Top2/3 draft pick Longer pre season Hopefully less injuries Some new assistant coaches Get much fitter under Darren Burgess Needs Fixing Drafting of speed, talent & smalls. Recent efforts with KK, Baker for wings and Johnson, Bedford, Spargo have not delivered, need to find a few that make it. Langdon & Hill are on the right track, not surf here re the small forward. Maybe one more tall marking forward. Basic game plan stuff: - Backline don’t all jump up to punch, someone stay down - Someone mind goalsquare - At throw ins, small guarding path to goal on the goal side - Mids actually really run both ways - Mids don’t all jump in after the ball, someone stay outside - Mids recruit some outside speed - Forwards really lead, and not just into pocket - Take responsibility to take the shot! - Find some crumbers - Get ball in quickly, doesn’t mean don’t look (Dees always looked crap playing slow precise football) In 2000 we had a few really good assistant coaches from memory, Ratten in the guts and I think it was Weston? backman from bombers for the backline and our midfield work was slick and backline incredibly disciplined (like Tigers now!). Some appointments like that would be great. And a match day tactician.
  4. NOooooooooooooooooooooo I’ve left the country for 4 weeks to miss the end of this tragic season, but at least when we were up and going last year, it was great to watch. could never enjoy watching Ross Lyon coached team, so slow, boring and miserable!!! Week after week after week!!!! Never!
  5. It was showing signs of improvement and TMac got injured, then Weideman also injured. Melksham, JSmith, Garlett, T Smith all out makes it difficult!!
  6. JWagner on average every 2nd possession he gets, stuffs it and generates an Eagles goal! VFL only!
  7. It was one of the great days at the footy, he kicked something like 11-8, he was spectacular. i like the suggestion to stick Petracca in the goalsquare and just go for it! Would be fantastic if he could deliver half what Jakovich did in that purple patch!
  8. Playing with zero confidence, wouldn’t believe it’s almost the same team as last year!!
  9. Forget the frees. Fritsch misses from 15 metres out, disgraceful!
  10. just basic errors, max drops easy mark!
  11. Jetta way out of touch.....should have a full week in vfl!!
  12. Dees not clean, some players zero confidence! ANB gone totally backwards this year.
  13. Seems the right balance against a smaller Dogs team. Hannah lucky as he isn’t doing much, and over his career seems like one great game, two okay, one bad and two shockers, needs to find some consistency.
  14. We beat GWS, Geelong, Hawthorn and West Coast who made the 8 last year. Operations, Injuries and many players not having good pre seasons make a huge difference. Brisbane had two players out of their total list unavailable for selection on the weekend. Remove five players from their team and see how much it impacts them. Yes, we’ve had a really bad season, players injured, no confidence, and even recruits injured. Most likely we end up bottom 4, we get a good draft pick, probably capable of playing firsts next year, get any operations out of the way early, pre season for team starts early, we get a good draw next year. Pick up someone with speed and someone who can crumb in the forward line, and 2020 we’re back in business. 2014-18 we improved each year, this ones a downer, but we can be in a position to go for top 4 in 2020.
  15. Frost has definitely improved and does a lot more right than wrong. Where as Hore has been praised by many, but fumbles a lot, disposal is average and is slow. Cost a few goals with errors today.
  16. Agree with your ins, also add one small defender willing to stay down and crumb, rather than trying to go up for a mark or punch!
  17. Lions 2 injuries, means you field your best team. We’re playing guys like Hore, Hannan, T Smith, Baker, Petty who just aren’t good enough at the moment. Also why do so Melbourne players fly for the mark both ends and nobody roves the pack!
  18. Very hard to believe we are favourites! Still going to front up and shout for the Dees!!
  19. While our wins and losses column is very bad at 3-9, the tragic figure is percentage 76%. Last year it was 131%, so we are effectively 9 goals per game worse than last year. That is a huge gap. Forget the 8, let’s win more matches than we lose in the last 10 and over that period get back to a 100+ percentage! Get players operated on who need them and finish the season strongly and be ready for the pre season campaign. We will likely finish 13-18, so will get one top five and top 25 pick, and should end up with a good draw in 2020!
  20. There were 4 opportunities for players who took marks inside 50 metres not on the boundary line, who looked to pass off, rather than take the shot, not one was successful. Garletts was the worst from 35-40 almost directly in front. Players are lacking confidence, not willing to take a risk. Almost need to do same as North & Carlton, the seasons done, simplify the plan and just go for it, take the game on, move it quickly into forward and take the shots for goal. Rather than be a deer in the headlights!
  21. Spargo needs to get more possessions, but typically uses the ball very well when he gets it. Is probably low on confidence, like a lot of the team this season! Team looks a lot better this week, agree adding in Jetta & Melksham would be ideal. Should put in a solid effort against the Pies, pity we blew last weeks match.
  22. Lewis has been a terrific player and good value for the Dees last two years. But unfortunately all good things come to an end, he must help with keeping our backline structure, as he is struggling. As previously mentioned once Lever comes back, hard to see a spot for Lewis. Still thanks for two years of helping the team learn what it takes to play finals.
  23. I’m not an ANB fan, but he played well last week. Others didn’t, the point is why drop ANB when he played well. Wagner, Lewis are two who come to mind. Hope Viney is fit! Keilty was poor last week, one great centre clearance, but that was about it. Pleased to see he gets another chance as giving a player one game isn’t enough, hopefully he is better this week. Go Dees!
  24. Agree, felt the forward line and team defence were better, because of his contribution. Would rather see Wagner out, or Lewis than ANB!
  25. Agree, first half was shocking, and interpretation of 50m rule hurt us. At least in the 3rd quarter we had 10-15 minute patch when we almost looked like a decent team. Hopefully we can build on the good pieces of play from the 2nd half and have a few decent quarters against the Suns. If Pruess and Viney are fit they will get a game this week. Wagner out and probably Kielty, even though after a long wait don’t mind if he gets a couple on the trot. Lewis on his last legs. Good to see Hibberd looking a lot better and TMac showing some signs in the 2nd half. Fingers crossed we get on a roll and have a good win against GC, would generate some confidence and with a couple of other players coming back, you never know when it comes to our Dees!
