INSIDE DEES’ REVIEW WITH ‘P****D OFF’ GOODWIN
MurDoc516 replied to Cheap Seats's topic in Melbourne Demons
I've not been a big fan of Goodwin for a while now. But i don't blame him for the Port lost. We had more of the ball, more inside 50's and took control of the corridor in that 1st quarter and players didn't lay a glove on Port. Then they capitulated in the 2nd when called to stand up. Enough talking from the players, time for them to just play football and lets see which ones want to have successful careers. -
Few thoughts - Oscar and Lever were brilliant in 2018 together, let's not forget that. I really hoped Joel Smith would've taken the role as 3rd key defender, but Oscar has now for the second time proved himself as a great defender when has a good mix of bodies around him. - Our defence is looking better because the pressure is sustaining for longer. Any defence will look ordinary if it's getting bomb barded. Mids and Forwards locked the ball in and held up the play well for the zone to set in these last two weeks. - Gawn and Trac dominated from start to finish. - Fit Viney is an elite mid. Gawn, Oliver, Viney and Trac is an elite midfield. They showed it once before, need to do it again. - Brayshaw and Harmes dissapointed today for me. I never question their attitude or desire, but both butcher the ball. Harmes is giving a way a lot of silly free kicks as well. Both need to and can lift. - Weideman looks like he is playing with some real anger. He got clattered 3-4 times and was first back to his feet everytime. Also when your mids kick the ball to your lead you will look good, but Weid has everything to be that dominate forward. If your in the opposition you don't want to let Weid take a mark inside 50, because he will punish you. - Hannan and Vanders both have been big ins for us. They both look like they know what we have been doing wrong and look the most fustrated when someone isn't doing the right thing. - Bennell has only played 3 games, but atleast for two of those he's been better then i thought he would be. Hopefully he stays fit. We can work it out with him in team if we start him deep in our forward 50 and almost let him roam. Against Brizzy or another top team it will be interesting if we can afford to have him cheating as he does. However, he was quite physical today which i liked. - Jackson looked like he had adjusted to the physicality and speed of the game well today. Looked like he could do everything, loved the ruck work today as well. - Kozzy just looks AFL made. Like he is the full package. Speed, Silky, fancy feet, great set shot, unpredicatable and effective with disposal. Also not a bad looking young man, hopefully a dee for a long time to come.

Gawn - Dominated the game Viney - Great with ball Petracca - Remember the name Jetta - Getting better still May - Best game yet McDonald - Great with Lever Salem - Attitude was great Hibberd - Recapturing his form Melksham - Sprinkle of class Fritsch - Very consistent form Jackson - Seemed to belong Pickett - Has it all Bennell - Classy with ball vandenBerg - Tough and smart Brayshaw - Needs to lift Oliver - Good not great Hannan - Made a difference Weideman - Best game yet Harmes - Needs to lift Langdon - Speed is crucial Lockhart - Is getting better Lever - Composure, leadership and smarts

This really shouldn't be about the people at the club or a return on investment. We all tune in every year to watch a new season, i admit my passion for the game isn't as strong as when i was kid. To be fair i think that's more because the game has gone in a direction i find less appealing. However, i won't turn my back on this club til my last day or it's. Purchased myself a shirt because at least it's something material in return for the money. Who knows, i might be wearing it to a grand final one day. Cheers to all who donated and to those who couldn't. Let's hope we all survive.

I think it's easy to get sucked into the hype as new season draws near, ecspecially when your shown positive footage. However, a point Darren raised in the video is that we never ran to any level close last pre season to what we are this pre season. Shows how far back we were and how much futher we got to go.
-
Future Hibbo if he can develop lock down ability.
-
Spot on. Also that loss in the prelim was followed by an awful season. Time to get revenge.

Hayden Young (Drafted by Fremantle)
MurDoc516 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Surely we nab him at 3 -
I'd be happy with anyone from 7-11 if we got them with pick 8. Young with Pick 3 would be my go to pick.
-
I'm liking the look of Young a lot.
-
Interesting to see the details from Draft Combine. Some names that kept coming up under all different catergorys are Finn Maginnes, Cooper Stephens, Sam Flanders and Ben Johnson. We drafted two elite endurance runners in the trade period do we look for more in the draft? I'm thinking it's Serong and Weightman in the draft. I like the look of Young and Flanders.
-
You think SOS is gonna fight Dodoro in the parking lot because he wouldn't give up Daniher and give them the run at Papley?
-
If Pick 8 got Papley i would 100% do it. Papley, Langdon and Tomlinson in via trades and using Pick 3 to get the best kid we can would = the best trade period we've had.
-
No doubt it was a hot sample, but the punishment is just so much worse for trying to cheat the system.
-
Tampering with a sample is seen as worse than finding an actual drug in the test. 4 year ban seems likely, why [censored] risk it.
-
Judd also said he thinks Melbourne will make a play for Brad Hill. No GCS will ask for Pick 2 and retention allowance from the AFL this week. If that happens we need to [censored] pick 3 for two 1st rounders and go aggressive in trade period.
-
It's funny that most fans on this board will see we have too many of the same kind of players in the middle of the park, but the club will probably draft in 2-3 more inside mids this season. Seriously, make a bold call. Show some balls and stop talking. If it's saying goodbye to Jones/Garlett/Lewis this year then so be it. If it's trading one of Brayshaw/Harmes/Viney and going in for an outside player or a key forward then so be it. Sitting still is going to cost us, we don't even win around the contest as much as we used to so whats the point of hoarding inside players. Edit: Also my shout for captain is Lever. Gawn, Oliver, Trac and Brayshaw don't scream captain or have the personality of a captain in my eyes. Viney and Jones both have similar attitudes which made them at the time stand out for the role. I think Jake has the combination of a mature head and talent to back it up.

Coniglio is an elite mid with good skills and a goal threat. He's also at a point in his career where he ain't going to cost the house to get him pick wise (will command 1m a yr but moving Lewis, Garlett and Brayshaw on will give us more than enough room). I don't think Brayshaw is a problem and would be happy to keep him but we all know our problems in midfield is we have too much of the same. If we want speed and skill we won't get it without moving on of them on and i only see him and Oliver having any trade value right now. So lets be real here, a decisions between Brayshaw and Oliver isn't really a decision. If we trade brayshaw for hill or coniglio this is how i'd line us up. Also i'm done with Sam Frost and O. Mac. B: Jetta - May - Lever HB: Salem - Hore - Hibberd CM: Langdon - Oliver - (Hill/Coniglio?) HF: Petracca - T. Mac - Melksham F: Hunt - Weideman - Fritsch Fo: Gawn - Viney - Harmes IC: Jones - ??? - ??? - ???
-
Would have to be a first rounder or no deal. But i don't think anyone wants to pay a first rounder for him. I'd only sacrifice Brayshaw if we go big on Coniglio.
-
Drop a 2020 1st rounder on the table and back ourselves to climb while hoping we nab Anderson. Thing is our trade period is going to come down to what happens at the Suns. Do the Suns want Anderson or Rowell? Do the AFL want to give the Suns picks 1 and 2 or 1 and 19. Either way that changes our plans on trades. We are, as of right now could be trading pick 20 for Langdon and Freo want a first for Hill. Only way i see it happening is if we trade a future 1st round pick but i doubt Freo bite. However, it is freo and they like shooting themselves in the foot more than we do.
-
It seems Ed is likely, but i think Brad Hill is a must. As mentioned, AFL rules are hardly set in stone so trading for him won't be problem imo. I'm sure Freo would want a first rounder for Hill and i think that would be fair considering how many years he has left and how good he's been. Convincing Hill to come might be tough, but he doesn't really have the i'll go to my preferred club card when he is still under contract for many years. Pick 2 will be a better offer than whatever Saints and Hawks will offer and i'm sure money wise the difference won't be significant enough for him to refuse to come.
-
Brad Hill and Ed Langdon. Will probably end up with another contested ball winner who is 'flexible' or defender.

Margin Call: Should we trade our early pick/s?
MurDoc516 replied to Matsuo Basho's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm already confused about what our plans are. We are heavily linked to Kelly at Adelaide as a key defender, talk around May going forward and yet Pert says we are looking at a Key forward. Listen i don't like Matthew Lloyd but i think he made a decent point around Tom McDonald and Sam Weideman. It's clear both have talent, but bringing someone in to help them isn't necessary. They both need to be "the man". What forward line in the comp needs 3 talls to function? Both need to get a grip and back themselves in. They didn't struggle last season when the heat was on and Hogan was out. Yet now both looked mentally shot at times. We are very limited on the outside. Collingwood and Richmond have destroyed us just by getting the ball on the outside and bursting away. Ed Langdon won't be worth the picks Freo would want (if we can get him cheap then i'm all for it) and Coniglio will break the wage structure. Honestly i'd be right after Bradley Hill. Speed, good disposal, can play mid or off Half Back, in his prime years and has Premiership experience. Seems like a player who would go to another level in a team that can do all the hard work but lack what he brings. -
I was very pleased with May and Lever yesterday. Started slow, but you would expect that. Both did well as the game went on. Also i've liked the look of Baker since he came in. Makes a few inexperienced errors but he's got something about him. Marty Hore will be our player of the season most likely. Not pursuing a Tom Lynch deal now looks like it's killed us. It's nice we have so many good players down back when fit. But our midfield and forwards have no link up and it results in the defence getting put under enormus pressure constantly with quick turn arounds. I think it should be noted how good our defence did yesterday. Pies kicked 9 straight in the last 2 qtrs which blew the margain out, so the full story of how well they stood up never got shown.

I feel like i'm going mad watching Melbourne play. It's the same [censored] every game, just differing levels of [censored] opponents.
