Farewell Jesse Hogan
Everything i've heard (i know nobody, just from on here and AFL journos) suggest he's gone. Like i said in the AVB thread, i don't like that the club is going to have so much turnover after a succesful season onfield. Hopefully this is a one off off-season, reminds me too much of our dark days.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
If people fear that we could play too many talls next season i would say it doesn't matter how tall you are as long as you can play. Do you think Carlton think i wish Cripps wasn't 196cm tall? Hogan, T.Mac and Gawn can all play and are big boys. I'm sure the club believe Preuss can follow the same steps Maxy did.

he opended a business in WA and said he isn't leaving.

Aaron vandenBerg not going - signs a new deal!!!
Nothing against Vanders leaving, i'll never be mad at a player leaving for family reasons. However, when you look at the fact that Vince and Pedo are retiring. King and Filipovic are delisted. Kent, and potentially Hogan, Tyson and Vanders are looking to leave we all of a sudden have a massive hole in our squad. We'll get the picks back to cover it but [censored] man either way we are getting 4 or 5 kids ontop of the kids we already have. Our best 22 and the 6 or 7 fringe players who are ready to play seniors are going to have an easy ride if they stay fit.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
I'm not going to say he ain't a quality fullback, but i don't think Steven May is the be all and end all. Let's not forget Oscar was one of our better players while Lever was in the side. Now we are chasing May who has played around [censored] all his life. It's easy to look good when your teammates are all 20 years old, undersized and still learning the craft. Yes he would basically take over Hogan's wage, but Hogan actually earned his wage.

Interesting. I wonder how the group feels about him leaving. You felt them all bond with the big wins this year and in the finals. Jesse not being there for them i wonder if they really care or if they feel upset he's leaving after all the hard years to get no reward together.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
Eh i rate Hunt. I don't think he is going to be as good as we hoped, but he can play if he gets fit and his head right. Otherwise he will end up like Wattsy

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
Get McCartney and the doctors to look at him, hell even have Brayshaw talk to him. He's been wearing a helmet but he's still getting head knocks shows something is wrong with his attack on the footy or that his head just can't take it. Either way he will be cheap and worth a punt. He could fix his issues and be a long term player for us. He will def have something to prove. Look at his stats. Very much like Salem when he's across half back. He loves to kick and run.

did chook not say he's gone but the club wants a lot in return? or did i dream it. I need to stop dreaming about 18 year olds

Farewell Jesse Hogan
9 pages of arguing over draft picks, taxes and who to win a flag with is what i just caught up on. Still no news is dissapointing. If he wanted to leave i'd like the club to just say it. I think most people would be okay with it and then we can talk about what we are getting with knowing he's gone. If he's staying then sure don't say a word, we need to find a way to get some draft picks because our list has a massive hole in it.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Trade him now get two first rounders who then slot in and carry us to a flag next year while Freo finish last.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Two first rd picks minimum. I'm scared of the May idea. I think he has a lot of hype because he's an okay player surrounded by [censored], bit like Tyson was at first. I think we would do better at the draft table. It would also be [censored] hilarious that Adelaide get our [censored] late teens pick while we get ahead of them in the draft. Should take the two SA boys they want ahead of them haha
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Maybe because of our recent success in the draft i'm more on board getting two top 10 picks and drafting some good kids over getting May. Before you say kids don't win flags. The rising star is playing in a GF alongside two first year players at the eagles.

Club loyalty is dying as we have 1 player just playing his first final after 12 years on our list. While Tom McDonald signed a new long term deal to stay at the club. Gawn and Viney won't leave the club. The idea of premierships (the thing they all play for) keeps people at clubs. Always has and always will.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
No it's not. Premierships is the price. Geelong and Hawthorn had 0 million dollar players. We should hold our ground and leave the cap where it is now.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Riewoldt and Roughead are not on a million at all. They all took pay cuts to keep a competitive list together. Boyd is the doggies being desperate, but hey it got em a flag. Buddy is worth every penny and so is Kennedy. Even then i'm not sure what Kennedy is on.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I think we've seen a real trend of first years players being AFL ready. Stephenson, Higgins, Brayshaw etc They ain't the finish article but all are easily in the best 22 of their sides. I think if we could get Walsh, Hatley, Clark or Valente they could all easily play seniors straight away. They have the bigger bodies and football smarts to work. Butters is a little lightweight and Rozee could probably make our best 22 as a forward but his midfield work is pretty good and that was the theme i was looking at. Outside runners who can play midfield.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
But the SA boys are all cracking players. Take the risk we'll get 1st rounder back for em.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Let me just say i want Hogan to stay. We don't need high draft picks nor do we really need a big FA this season. However if he wishes to go than so be it. Make the trade why we have the cards in our hands. What we are going to gain from this trade? no idea. I think the club will demand two first round picks and that should be the minimum. Talk is Freo will get picks 10 and 11 for the trade of Lachie Neale to go with pick 6. I'd demand pick 6 and 10 for Hogan. Dockers will probably say no and say 10 and 11. I think however we get what we want by either waiting or sweetening the deal and giving them a 3rd rounder to go with Hogan for picks 6, 10 and a future 3rd rounder. Why do i think the Dockers take this? Because Ross Lyon wants more talent at the club and currently he has pick 5 and 77, that's it. We have two third rounders available and only really need one to go with our two 2nd rounders. What else could happen to secure this trade? Pick 6 comes to us now and Freo back themselves in to have a good season next year and give us their future first round pick for next season. I'm open to this because i'm on the Josh Kelly hype train and think we are going to make a play for him. That would leave us with two first rounders for next season to go after Kelly or whatever big fish is available. Again Freo is going to want to try and nab one of our 2nd or 3rd picks. They are desperate to get back into the draft and we can use this to get what we want. What do we do with our picks? Steven May seems to be the fresh link. I don't know how good May is but if he can actually play a lockdown defender role i can only see it being a big benefit to us. It would unleash Lever and give Oscar/Frost the 2nd/3rd talls while May takes the no.1 guy. Do we make a play for Kelly now? i don't think we'd get him. Giants are desperate to keep him and are trying to move players on to free up cap space just so they can offer him the million dollar deal he would demand. We would have cap space assuming Hogan leaves and if you believe PJ's talk earlier in the season about having room for a big fish. What about the draft. Sam Walsh is out of the question, he's no.1 pick. Maybe, just maybe Carlton take two first rounders for pick 1. It would be a different approach considering under Roosy we did trade down with our high picks to get quantity of players in. We aren't [censored] and in desperate need of talent so i wouldn't be against just going for best kid availble and sacrificing picks to get it. I don't think Carlton's list is terrible, just injury plagued. Sam Walsh is an outside beast and will work nicely in tandem with Cripps so i think they'll make the play. If they do agree to this offer i say do it. We need an outside mid and Walsh is the most promising pick in years. Again this is all assuming Hogan is leaving so maybe we look at a promising forward to replace him. The King Brothers are estimated to land in the picks 4 to 7 range. We might be able to nab one but i do think both might be heading to the Suns. My personal shout for a potential pick ups are: Connor Rozee(SA), Jackson Hatley(SA), Jordan Clark(WA), Zak Butters(VIC), Luke Valente(SA). Valente, Butters and Hatley are all mids. Rozee is a half forward-mid hybrid and Clark is a half back flank with great rebound ability. Rozee, Hatley and Clark will probably go in around the picks 8-12 mark so if we had a pick availble we could nab one or if we decided to not trade for May or another FA we could pay overs and get any 2 we wanted really. Also i just want to say i've seen talk about Brayshaw, Cerra or Langdon coming in with a first round pick. I don't think Ross is stupid to move a kid on after a season when he's been telling the fans he's playing the kids. If he was stupid then Ed Langdon would be the best option for us. However the Brayshaw brothers being together would be nice.

"Garry Lyon and Paul Roos don't believe the Demons are driving the Jesse Hogan trade. But believe the star forward has changed his mind." Gary also said the calls he made today seem to suggest all this noise is real. Pick 6, 9, fut 3rd rd for Hogan and a 3rd rnd is my early guess

bit of chat that some 2nd and 3rd round picks will also be traded amongst the clubs. Freo however would likely use a 2nd rd pick to get Lobb

mate it's the AFL. You can do anything if you ask nicely. Geelong, Hawks and Swans have been abusing this loophole for years. source Fox Footy podcast. They continue to laugh at it.

Future first round would interest us if we are in for Kelly.
