GAMEDAY: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Deemania since 56 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
No, Mate, your Mate got it correct first time, Mate and allegedly, Mate, it is on 7 Mate so sit down with your mates to enjoy a few cans whilst watching the game, Mate, on 7Mate with all your mates, Mate. Seeya, Mate and don't forget: Carna Demons, Mate. -
All heil John Northey, the footballing magician.

Yes, the game outcome is very likely, PF, to be determined by the umpires, their tendencies for 'entertaining footy' and catchups (particularly if the Dees are ahead or look like going further ahead), the selectively unobserved Doggies bending of the rules such as throws, chops, hitting key Melbourne players from behind - preferably in the head and neck - knee drops, arm chops at all costs and an assortment of further incursions as these opportunities may occur. Overcoming the 5-goal advantage across a game from the umpires, the Dees still should still prevail although the margin will be small and hard-fought. Holding one's breath for this game; several things are just bound to amplify annoyance and disbelief. Carna Dees!

TEAMS: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Deemania since 56 replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Snappy disposals and effective quick releases are required from Jack. His kicking needs to be tempered, as well. The aim is to hit a useful target and so do quickly for a particular purpose, not to impress with long bombs for distance, alone after excessive time holding the ball statically to decide whence it is to go without a reason why. He must also not invite physical challenges to 'get the ball from me' when in possession. Always get caught for starters .... -

'Wrong thread'? Are you talking about Goodwin again? -

AVB is one of our great assets; he'd protect Salem and also Lever against opponents who can get away with anything coz the umpires say so, and as you suggest, Harmes is freed for closer and more specific stopping of the alleged 'guns' in the opposition. -

A recurring error with regards to Gus; he is not a universal player, he is an accomplished midfielder who racks up possessions and disposals - often scoring himself on the run - and from this onfield allocation, is highly competitive and reliable. -
I'm wondering, as well, how the umpires are going to assist the Doggies with their contested balls, 'observed' against 'accidently unobserved' free kick tallies across both sides, how they can combat the Dees getting ahead fairly comfortably early in the game and with this criterion, how whistle power can 'even up' the scores to ensure 'entertaining' footy to get the Doggies back in the game and ultimately across the line. These factors have affected all of our losses this year in one way or the other.

TMac's experience might well provide a sound interpretation of what goes well, what won't go well and that which could go well at all costs. He does appear analytical but is also tucked away most games and possibly,, out of frequent contact with those players to whom such advice might be beneficial.

That can be satisfying to a point; if the rollover season for 2022 is more normal, that GF would be the one to win. We have had a season to prepare for a blockbuster 2022 one would think. It will never happen, but a great 2022 season would be very satisfying when it came around, almost compensatory.

My 3 word player analysis V Hawthorn
Deemania since 56 replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
In conjunction with many other problems lining up a goal - including the frequency of what is appearing as a preference for those speccy 'around the corner' set shots - we must concentrate on leading out to alternative angles and spaces, forcing a clearance of the hot zone (and development more kicking skills across a 45 metre distance / range), plus more midfield /half forward shots and accuracies 'on the run'. We do not 'set' the ball, we fiddle with it; we over-value static forwards, falsely thinking they are our strengths; our smalls have talents yet are easily dispossessed and/or knocked off an intended line; we have too many forward passengers who should really be working hard and smart to create alternative opportunities in seconds. We must have an enormous insufficiency in our training methods and forward-line creativity for such basic errors to be so prolific. -
Don't tell me, I'm still in two minds about the matter; tell him, that's if he can settle down and behave for a change - just like I told her to do.

Maybe Sportsbet already know who the umpires will be for the match - 'umpire assists' will therefore have less impact on the game? -

That is correct, that is what happened and certainly, it gave the umpire an opportunity to assist the Hawks at a critical moment, so he did by appearing 'convinced' Petty drew the ball into himself. Petty had already played his smarts, pushing the ball away from his prone body when some tasteless ape jumped on him like a long-long lover, grabbed it and drew it into Petty's body. -

Must keep Jackson in for the ruck and give Gawn a well-deserved rest for the coming game - he must be fit and switched on in the finals. -

Viney is the out. Vanders in an in. Vanders was rather good after so long out of footy, so he deserves another crack at a few tasks so he can get the V8 steamroller going again. -

Totally agreed with this; double the action man, double the speed, double the endeavour with the team. -
He is a real talent with these contested possessions and general possessions, his tackling is reliably good, too. He just makes poor decisions as a team member in the disposal of the ball, is slow to maintain the pace of set plays that are underway for our team, and grandstands a few times in possession that leads to being nabbed, caught with the ball and often, a well-drilled play is ended rather unceremoniously. Selfish?

Me, too! Didn't even go to the post-match DL thread to see if everyone else was as irate, disappointed and inwardly hostile as I was since the start of the third quarter. It was a game where we could have won by possibly 40 points - and that is conservative. Talk about keeping the Hawks in the game - talk about ignoring (pretending not to see) overt violations of the tackling, holding, throwing, dropping the ball rules! Under these circumstances, no matter how well we might have played, we would not win the match, once again. Even the Dees' players we tired of it and obviously, were losing interest in the win due to umpire decisions and tolerances, one-way, many times, in an avenue to scoring successfully to stay in the game.
-
The third quarter, umpire No. 12, 4 goals awarded to the Hawks to make the game 'interesting' by his command. Showboat umpiring and plenty of the sympathetic, inexplicable absence of attention to the inexeperienced Hawks players holding, head-high tackling, throwing of the ball in close. It was almost a declaration by this umpire of his support for the Hawthorn FC.

Certainly one of the observations that stung.
