You sure mate? You seem to rag on most of your whipping boys throughout the game when you post on here. -

They stick in other contexts... but I get the point... I'm still hoping for the Max Gawn at Kardinia Park breakout, where he feels he belongs... -

5 mark attempts, has crashed packs... 5 could have stuck another night. Takes a forward from TMAC.... a range of things he is doing that doesn't quite count on the stats sheet... -

Good positive chat as always Dr. Mind you, the medical profession does look at things from a deficit model. -

@kev martinjust to give some evidence around mid season form vs post season form. Don't believe the hype that this match has any bearing, any bearing whatsoever on either our's or the Bulldogs capabilities come September. Goodwin has built this side for finals... losses mid year will occur, 'competitive or otherwise'. Anyway, a bit of evidence of Richmonds GF winning years -
A nice article on the career trajectory of Darcy Parish - personally, I am very pleased for him. https://www.statsinsider.com.au/blog/afl/darcy-parish-and-why-waiting-is-the-hardest-part There is a nod to the acknowledged urgency that we all have as supporters, and the little leniency we give players at times. NB: This is not posted to start another trash thread around revisionism of who got the better draftee.... but...is he gettable ?

Slow off the Mark; Our First Quarters
Engorged Onion replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sorry @leave it to deever, this is an ambiguous cliche which in of itself is meaningless. Each team comes each week to knock the other team off... We start slow for a variety of reasons from week to week... but not - 'other teams are fired up'. -
Why Oliver is More Dangerous Than You Think
Engorged Onion replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Probably could have put this elsewhere. Not that it matters (aside from a groundswell of public perception driven by the media, that in-turn influences umpire vote giving ?) but it's nice to know that some sections of the media see that Clayton is 'criminally underrated'. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/it-s-bont-v-petracca-in-big-showdown-20210523-p57ud0.html -
It's human nature to be reactionary, and supporters are number one at this when it's such an emotional investment. We've lost a game by a point... By a team that has also beaten Geelong (a top 4 contender). Now if I was a Bulldogs supporter looking at the form line between the two, then it's lineball. But if I was an emotional supporter of the Dog's I'd be shirting bricks... Bulldogs Supporter Stream of Consciousness "Streuth, we've got the Dee's - they've just lost to Adelaide, they're off the boil and we have them on our home deck", but heck we're going alright...aren't we? I mean, our tails are up, we've dismantled the Saints, but only two weeks ago, we've proven we can't handle intense long term pressure, when we lost to the Tigers, with 4 of their best midfield out by 4 goals. We only kicked 2 goals after half time" "Actually, we only just snuck in against Carlton, after they dropped their guard in the final quarter" "If I was a Melbourne supporter, I'd say we're ripe for the picking after a stroll in the park against a weak St Kilda side". But..I'm an emotional Melbourne supporter - and I'll wonder out a loud and say things like Is Goodwin the right guy? Mmmm perhaps I'll start a thread on that one. Weideman has had too many chances, 6 years in the system and STILL has no presence Fritsch...yeah he's silk, but he is selfish and doesn't tackle and we need everyone to tackle, even if they're silk Gawn isn't captain material when he drops marks like that Lever and May are lazy/arrogant...heck they're both! Petty, should have been delisted Petracca just showboats We don't have depth Our issues haven't been fixed in all the time that Goodwin has been on as coach Did I mention Melksham should be dropped And if we have to bring in Jones from the two's then we have no depth. Like any match - it's essentially about the pressure that is brought... time and time and time again....and the odd call or non call from an umpire.

Why do we 'need' to @Patches O’houlihan? Is that about scoreboard cosmetics? I'd say any time we have 8 or more scoring shots a game than any other team, it's a domination... at times it's just not a goal fest. 6 times out of 9 matches is tracking really well.

9-0 and it's still happening. ? Just block the fekkers that are repeat offenders...

Closest to the Pin?? 1 Goal to Weid = 4 goal win 2 Goals to Weid = 7 goal win 3 Goals to Weid = 10 goal win 4 Goals to Weid = 13 goal win ie: Melbourne Goals: 4 Goals Weideman, 3 Goals Mcdonald. Pickett. 2 Goals Petracca, Fritsch .1 Goal Jackson, Oliver. Spargo. Melksham

Certainly not worried about Brisbane whilst Daniher is in the side. Great focal point and 'has' the capacity to kick goals from 25m and closer... but not beyond. Joe's had numerous years of knowledge and evidence that he is inconsistent. I expect this to get more pronounced as this season in particular, but his career as well, in Brisbane continues. He looks like a guy who wants to get those kicks over and done with. And then the soul destroying goal at the other end....

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Engorged Onion replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mmmmm - has some neat stats from around 10 days ago. https://www.statsinsider.com.au/blog/afl/melbournes-best-brownlow-prospect-mightnt-be-who-you-think Key quote "And while Oliver has added a much more expansive, penetrative aspect to his game this season, much like Mitchell and Neale successfully did in their Brownlow seasons, Oliver's also incorporated a more pronounced defensive component to his game as well, the likes of which might have more of an impact on Brownlow night than goals. " -
It's the age old conversation of - How many games sequentially for someone to give them some continuity before the threshold is reached that they cannot retain their spot in the side. No one aside from the supporters are talking about 'potential'. Someone on here wrote a post yeserday re: Weideman last year - did alright in the first half of the year, got injured, played with TMAC who was out of form, was the big dog forward in a team that was misfiring delivery into the forward line as well as general midfield play. It's a different context at the moment. Personally, though, I am dubious about his performances when taking the best defender... (and I assume the FD would hope the best defender goes to TMAC).
-
Expecting a Weid contract announcement to drop any time now... (not that I have any knowledge of course). But it feels a bit of the vibe.

Love it - and desire wise, it's helpful if it looks at things a la the Game Plan/Tactics and all the Jazz thread, rather than regurgitating stats.
