Which MFC player have you met personally?
Engorged Onion replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Greatest place on earth.... not enough footballers plucked from obscurity down that way (myself included). -
You never forget the biggest discrepancy when your expectations were not met, particularly when something matters (oh, why does football [censored] matter?) I too remember that time vividly, marginally older than you Col, for once being bewildered that we were on top (seems in retrospect, much like the team).

I'm not sure if there is a bias towards Melbourne here, but by my count there are 6 in this rolling AA team. https://themongrelpunt.com/afl-season-2021/2021/07/08/rolling-all-australian-team-round-16/?fbclid=IwAR01OkX4uW8F_kwP4Xzf73ihhTRnLRKFR9M0nPg0PuO6YKTSEiIb8rqNxLA

Just a public service announcement over the tannoy. "Good teams, do not lose to teams lower then them on the ladder" "Thank you all for listening".

???? Sunday marquee game?? Marketing? Not sure what you mean... If you're inferring The Dogs are marketing him (which I'm not sure you are), then it's all Channel 7. My thoughts are that back in the day, it was the club that pushed the agenda for Watts, not the stations...

*Brent Grgic, I brought a coffee once in the queue with him, swanning around North Geelong at his real estate agency... I hadn't the gumption to mention my hope that he was the second coming of Gary Lyon.... *didn't meet him -
Where has my youth gone? When I cared for Celtic, and played 4th and Inches on the Pc in the 90's.... Anyway, for those that still watch American sports - NHL, NFL, NBA - does our commentary reflect what occurs over there? In the sense of the commentary boxes on the field, or the 'banter'? Or is that quite an Australian thing to do? I just heard a commentator on the Dogs and Swans use the jargon of DNA... is this sort of language used in the US? Or is it the modern Australian way?

Stewie Dew is too good of a coach not to have a clear bit of brand/dna/team values/mission statement/vision statement/actionable item/a ha moment/blue sky thinking/competitive advantage/core competencies/deep dive/key take aways and lazer focus for his team not to play well some of the time.

Coach with Aging Team Wants Shorter Quarters

Coach with Aging Team Wants Shorter Quarters
Engorged Onion replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Two streams of thought 1) Not sure what his contract length is - but considering he is merely a custodian of the coaching role and keeping it warm for the next incumbent, (like all coaches are), and that the ageing list he has, wont always be an ageing list (it'll be replenished over the next few years), then perhaps he is thinking about the good of the game, not his own tenure. 2) Or not... -
Feeling back at home @Rab D Nesbitt? Not sure if you're from Edinburgh, or could be up in the Orkney's , or elsewhere, but there is a bit of a haar' (if I recall correctly.) Anyway, lets hope there are plenty of soft tissues today...

It's been a pretty tough time in the Onion household over the last 11 months, a range of external things occurring that impact day to day life. The first 4 months were stressful, a bit of a lull between feb and march and now last 4 months have been particularly stressful... BUT... corresponding to this all has being a filip of something I have never had in my lifetime. I can't recall the author - but "something something ...opium for the masses" and indeed this year The Dees have been my opium. Anyway - there is some now light on a range of fronts that I can start to see... And in a rare bit of - rewatching a replay - this image right here... was the ball game. Jeez we're in some rare form...but jeez it feels sustainable Apologies for vague posting... sometimes you just got to release it to your community even though you're essential anonymous (to most). *A nod to the community outreach centre that is Demonland and its cohort. ** Also, on reflection, this post is really more about the excellence of Melbourne, and how given context, this season is far more like a heart balm, than mere exhilaration and unbridled joy! And that's fine by me.

School holidays finished eh....?

If I recall he played a couple of games forward - perhaps end of 2019 ?? I thought there were a few games he kicked a couple, and looked strong overhead... Irrespective of whether he remains in the back, or heads forward as a target... he'll play 150-200 if he doesn't get injured.

Mmmm, some grist for the mill for the anti-goodwin, melbourne will fail brigade. I have been a little concerned about the 'meaning' (if any) of our 'slow starts' We're currently sitting at 47% for first quarters won. 8 from 17 For premiers over the last two decades - that would appear to be an anomaly to holding up the cup. But... the game (and rules) have changed immeasurably. What I love about our team (as stressful as it is a supporter) is that each time they trail (and there is plenty of exposure to that in each game), and grind their way back into the front and then hold the lead, it's the direct experience and emotional exposure to being uncomfortable, and still committing to the game plan, that will hold them in great stead in September. Rather than (perhaps as we have seen in the last few weeks from our midfielders) moving away from the roles of the game plan (structure, or taking too much on), And what do you typically do when you're under pressure? Default back to things that don't help the game plan.... So when it's finals time - as a team, we've had all this season (and the last quarter of last season), developing the psychological tolerance to being a bit stressed because we are behind, and trusting the players and the system to beat any team. It's not perfect, but nothing ever is. Believe it Dee's supporters - this team is truly built for finals grinding football.

On the subject of TMac and career resurrections... Jayden Hunt. There is no way at the start of the year I had him as a permanent contributor (*workman like role player) within a premiership contender. Well bloody done to him and his perseverance.

Totes agree with the sentiment. But they're no longer statement wins anymore are they? They're de rigueur wins ?
