  1. Perhaps he didn't like the then current culture at Freo, or the incumbent coach. Like most people, I assume he had every intention of honouring that deal with Brisbane - but things change, things evolve and 'what matters' becomes clearer, even if you are contracted and even if its in a 3 year period. Is it a problem that things evolve, that people change their mind? I can't imagine the club has had no idea of his intentions until it was released in the media post last match of the season. And yes, it is just a place of work. Just like yours, with really important relationships, some less important, and yet still pragmatic decisions made about your families future. Brisbane can choose to make him honour his contract (what other industry would do that for a human for another two years) but at what cost? I actually think the AFL industry does a really good job of being transparent and helping employees that want to move on, get to a place of employment that they want to. Supporters are the ones that get blindsided due to their emotional baggage.
  2. I wonder what objective reasons the FD think we DO need Cerra?
  3. It's reported that his wife who is 6 months pregnant with first child, wants to return to be more connected with family, whilst raising her own. It looks as though he is acting in his wife's, his child and his own best well-being interest. The only thing that matters in life is family and friends and the connection you have with them, and its pretty pronounced in these Covid times, when you have an absence of connection to them.
  4. Perhaps he is valuing his loyalty to his wife as opposed to a job? (it is, 'just' a job). Who's to say he hasn't suffered and had immense anxiety about the ramifications of this (in how he is judged as a person (but really an employee) when he and his wife mutually decided it was the best thing for their family?
  5. I was just reading through the ABC's little expose on Bontempelli. One of the many reasons Jack would be loved, would be by where he sits in this particular graphic/chart. *The Bont sits 5 on tackles and mid 22/23 on pressure acts. Here is a link to the article to go over a few other graphs. Petracca is up there, as well as Clayton in a few of them. Also J Harmes.
  6. Thanks! Ah sorry Clint - it was more a question around whether you had any thoughts about the mechanics of how we could be part of getting Neale back to Freo, and Cerra across to us.
  7. Go on....
  8. Holy moley. What's the wish that they want (and why?)
  9. Hmmmm....1 goal a minute for the opposition team is a worst case scenario. So what you're telling me @Dr. Gonzo is that I won't be able to relax for the first 3 quarters and 26 minutes of the match?
  10. System? As in on field football system? Or off field dynamics? As far as has been reported - the players checked out... (correct me if I am wrong) Not that it matters from a point of objectivity - but I was there at Kardinia...detached, confused, pondering whether the club would survive....and here we are, just like 'Ween' sang... push the little daisies and make 'em come up.
  11. FFS Well, this thread has descended into something I am not surprised has happened. It's ok to have different opinions and not like someone's opinion. It's ok to not like someone's opinion and not have to post about it to try to convince them to see things your way It's ok to not like someone's opinion about your opinion, perhaps just put them on ignore. If someone gets upset at how you responded, perhaps reach out to them and be conciliatory - or just put them on ignore (you can still think they are a [censored]... just do it privately).
  12. After slagging off some Chris Cornell fans last night đŸ˜˜ @Superunknown et.al, I had come across some music this morning that got me energised for the game. Now there is no direct link to winning or The Demons in the lyrics of this song, but just a song that I like. Here it is. Found That Soul It reminds me of a game I used to play with mates drinking, called 'YouTube Roulette' about 15 years ago - whereby you start with a song and artist - and then the next song must have a word from the previous title/artist. ie: Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond then Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline perhaps then you might go to U2's Sweetest Thing. Anyway I look forward to hearing some peoples eclectic tastes of whatever music they like between now and Friday.
  13. Love your optimism @Watson11 - however did you watch last nights game? đŸ˜µđŸ¤¨
  14. mmmmm, "timely discovery" uh-huh.
  15. That's two bloody good points
  16. Hell hath no fury like a fan of a band, who hears that someone else has no interest in that band.
  17. Hey... soundgarden fan boys... take it elsewhere - it's dull, and I've come here to [censored] about Geelong...not have a love fest about some mediocre bands that were seminal in your youth đŸ¤£
  18. Nice post. Will you now be Sparlie Chargo? or maintain the Tom?
  19. I'm not sure why Damien (or anyone's) opinion matters to you, and I can see that it does. Here are some reasons as to maybe why he hasn't given credit where credit is due in the IF...THEN... column Maybe he falls into the 'I still don't trust them' camp. It's not the right forum to be putting that opinion forward We became minor premiers essentially at the last kick of the season - a week earlier we could have dropped to 5th. Perhaps he really [censored] hates us for some obscure childhood reason, and only he knows that, but because of that, he gets to shape how people feel about how he feels about Melbourne because he has agency to write words about a sport that he gets paid to write about.
  20. Will you be satisfied with the Season of 2021 even if we lose the Preliminary Final
  21. Holy Moses! Is there an expectation that journalists have to love Melbourne - like we do? This is a bite size consumable on a Friday morning on the AFL website, to ensure that there is something digestible for those who like to get their information opinion in a brief format. If you don't like the breezy-ness of it and prefer a more thorough forensic examination, there are plenty of other options.
  22. Let me ramble a bit more... 25 degree Thursday arvo Beers at a relatively strong %. The hilariousness of top draft picks being 18yo's old changing a clubs destiny is clearly flawed. An 18yo changing 'culture' (not that is ever termed like that in media) is clearly problematic vs an army of people who are a) older than him and b) more entrenched in an existing culture. But, this is exactly what is implicitly implied in the media. I'm so out of touch with American sports it's not funny - but I guess a lottery feels pretty fair these days for the AFL... The evidence is, there are so many layers to challenging for premierships - and that there is no real formula, its an amalgam of great people who provide a safe spaces for people to explore their growth....whatever that growth looks like. Be it as a player, a coach, an administrator. Also, you can have a great amalgam...and it STILL doesn't guarantee success... be it for the individual or for the club. But that doesn't mean culture is actually poor either... I hope we can sustain finals appearances for the next 4-6 years...and then bottom out, because - we are no longer challenging for a premiership - thus we're not destination, but also our talent dissipates... then rinse and repeat over a decade/decade and a half cycle. These times are rare air for us Melbourne supporters.... sincere thanks to all those that suffered so much pain, or provided the pain, for our club to realise the hopelessness of those strategies.
  23. All true BUT When you're languishing down the bottom of the ladder - you get access to the best talent When you're doing alright, competing for premierships, have players with 'work ethic/kulcha' - you don't have access to that talent.
